  1. Any armor can be made to meet EIB, but VT should not be using FISD in his sales - no armor vendor should. Shame on him, shame, shame, shame.
  2. And with that there is a little matter on Bespin that you'll be assigned to shortly. Kit looks great - may want to tighten in the thighs at some point. Man - you new guys show up far more squared away that some of us (me) old salts in the past.
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauge_%28disambiguation%29 Unit of thickness used for thin plastics; 1 gauge = 1/100 Mil = 1/100,000 inch = 25.4/100000 mm = 0.254 micron Everyone should donate it Wikipedia - it's the font of most human knowledge!
  4. I use Daetrin as a online handle as there are numerous Paul's around and it gets too confusing remembering which John, Peter, etc. people are talking about - it's nice to have something unique. My lastname also is kinda dorky, so I didn't want to use that. Lastly, with multiple costumes it means I have to register with a different display name on each board, e.g. TK-8020, TD-8020, IC-8020, CC-8020, TC-8020 - just became a bother. So having the same name is handy. Daetrin is a character from one of my favorite books from one of my favorite authors, so I just adopted it.
  5. The armor at least when I bought mine from him in '05 is fine and lasted a long time and took a lot of abuse. At the time his prices were inline with what everyone else charged and he seemed to be the best 'Bay seller aside from Got*Armor. These days, alas yes his prices are now higher than what you can find elsewhere.
  6. I believe RT is better for larger guys than FX, based on kits I've seen in actual troopers.
  7. I tried combinations of my birth date or my kids', but they were all taken. In the end I choose Pareto's rule, e.g. 80/20. TK/TD/IC-8020
  8. It used to be we'd get no to little traffic regarding the Stealth Trooper (aka Black Hole), but lately we're seeing more show off and build threads. Rather than having them buried with all the white stuff, I thought it would be fun to create a special area just for owners and fans of this costume, especially as it's brother suit to the TK (as opposed to Darth Vader or clones, who have no armor parts in common). So...welcome! We're a sucker for pix here on FISD so feel free to share anything you like.
  9. Except for the helmet, IIRC.
  10. Since I'm not taking any more donations, I'm unstickying and closing this thread.
  11. Nice - is that black plastic or did you paint?
  12. Roger that. This is pretty cool - great job
  13. Jon - one more thing: you may find more info on the RPF. There are so few people actually making molds on FISD that we really don't have a lot of info on doing so. If there is enough interest though we can certainly created a section of the site dedicated to vac forming - even if people aren't doing armor there's a lot of small bits that can be made too. Thoughts?
  14. Great question - considering how many hours it takes to make molds from scratch, it's pretty hard to cost justify when the price for armor kits has never been cheaper, even when avoiding recasters. Even if you are only making $10/hour, unless it's a labor of love it will cost you far more to create from scratch. Few have tried - RT, TM, and via proxy FX are all on this board. Only one or two other folks have tried. I know in the clone world a few folks who have and it's taken them hundreds of hours to make their molds.
  15. Just used my DLT-19 today:
  16. I use all three from time to time. Wasn't a hyphen used in the script?
  17. So it's out there - that is one beautiful ANH hero set up. Congrats
  18. You're first barrier is getting 501st approved. For the most part these types of prop flubs are not in keeping with 501st standards, for instance you'll need tube stripes & brow trim. You can always replicate the look for a non-canon event after you've joined though. In the end, it's up to your local garrison rules.
  19. You can send it to me for closer inspection... j/k - should be fine
  20. Yes, the "Han Solo" setup is canon and 100% OK. You can also opt to just not have the holster at all and use the DLT-19, which is how the Falcon Trooper was.
  21. Outstanding! Man, that was just funny. How can you not LOL?
  22. Suffs are fine, but there is a line between worn and dirty that's best not crossed.
  23. Congrats on getting your TK! Don't worry about posting too many pix - it's not like we get tired of looking at stormtroopers
  24. I bought one in '05 or so. They are OK sound wise, the biggest advantage is he does all the hard work and it installs in like 5-10 minutes - super easy. The old ones were for FX, but he also makes ones that are ANH in size.
  25. Seems they do a great job with Star Trek
