Thanks to Eric for doing his magic to make this smooooooth. Is it me, or is the site running faster already? Email notifications seem to be down though...

Be aware that hyperfirm will only get you to EI, not Centurion for the TKC. I say this as someone who has had hyperfirm weapons since 2006 and currently own 4 of them. The gotcha is the requirement for the folding stock. Shouldn't be an issue if you are doing any other trooper though.

Just wait 'till you get the bill And yes, Eric has been tireless on behalf of FISD.

Holy resurrection Batman - it's Smitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where the heck you been? Oh, and for an ROTJ E-11 I cheated and just emailed RogueTrooper... :-p

We've done it in our early days but I shut it down as after a bit I got more than the cost of the hosting fees. While on V'Pier's server our cost was so low - $14/year - that I just ate the cost. The plan is to look at the total cost and then break it down by detachment, say if it cost $100 and FISD used 50% of the bandwidth, our target would be $50.

Locking for now - as noted the staff is contacting Mason and we'll have this sorted soon.

Despite all our efforts, we've been unable to address the CPU usage that started two months ago and set off the firestorm with our hosting provider, Site5. Lucas, Brent, Eric, Mathias all have put in countless hours analyzing the site usage, tweaking settings, pouring over logs and forums to see what could have accounted for this change. In the end Site5 has run out of patience and we were given the choice of being shut down or moving to a VPS (virtual private server). The only downside to the VPS is that it costs more - a lot more - to host. However given that this host will contain FISD, MEPD, SLD, IOC, and the PacOutpost, between the lot that's a lot of members and if we judiciously and fairly pass the hat we should be able to cover the expenses. What does this mean for you? 1. There will be some downtime as we move off of a shared host to a dedicated host. Site5 will perform this work and it should be minimal. 2. We will return to the days of asking for support from our membership each year, just like the Legion forums do. Back in the early days (2006) this was not uncommon really and CTN, FISD, and MEPD used to do this (that I was directly involved in). Then we hosted with V'Pier and our costs plummeted, removing the need. However we've grown quite a bit since then and have outgrown V'Piers server, and now have outgrown a shared server. So, think of it as going back to our roots. Mathias & Eric can provide the gory details on traffic usage and actions taken, and perhaps there may be enough bright linux administrator folks out there who can figure out how to do what we did better and bring CPU usage back down, however as of today we are out of time and have to move. If there are any questions regarding this, please chime away. With unquestioned loyalty, Daetin TK-8020

Actually you *can* still get approved with an FX helmet on paper. Your GML and garrison mates may rib the heck out of you for it, but it's possible. From the next down the FX kits needs minimal mods for 501st acceptance - figure $50 and an afternoon of work at most and you've even got EI. For $50 more an another afternoon, you can go Centurion.

TK7164 Requesting ESB Stunt Centurion Status[46][ATA*]
Daetrin replied to bobojuice's topic in Request Centurion Status
Wow, you really did lose a lot of weight! Looks great on you - nice job -
clickety-clack - how do you make your suit quieter?

And the Brits with rifles got their butts kicked by Zulus using spears. Custer didn't fare well either against bows and arrows. Need I go on? -

Quite the opposite. We: 1. Overwhelmed the Tantive IV and lost less than we took down. 2. Damaged the Falcon heavily before takeoff (we were told to stop the ship, not kill the pilot). I mean, who knew they had a hidden blaster? 3. Were told let Luke, etc. go so were told to make it "look good". 4. Even with a blaster, it's hard to survive 100-1 odds on Endor... -
Hi Mysie - that ratio for MEPD deployed has been constant for some time - even 5 years ago.

Yeah, a silent TK would be...strange. They are always making noise that's quite distinctive. -
TK-7564 Requesting ANH Stunt EIB Status[239][TM]
Daetrin replied to Brent's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Seems a shoe-in to me. Gorgeous TM build. -
At least he can get his EI in the meantime. Brent - I updated your membership to full TK status here on the boards (hey, I'm your GML too , so you should be able to apply for the EI anytime. I have swag awaiting you.
-
I can't wait for you to go Centurion - you're the single best looking suit in the Garrison! Well done, well done
-
Actually that's not entirely true. TM is not a direct cast from original and looks really, really good. ATA's helmet derives from an original and is the cheapest out there. Screen lineage doesn't always mean expensive. And you have to be careful about screen lineage - the best kit can be made in to a mess by a bad assembly job, and something just a little less can be made to be outstanding. Then take in to account maybe a bad pull, bad plastic, etc. And, even if you had a screen replicated suit would it hold up to trooping, or look like crap close up? A $500 suit that lasts one year may be better than a $1500 suit that lasts two.

Don't be such a h8r Eric (to borrow a phrase: toaster is such a racist term). Open the blast doors, open the blast doors!

Understood. IE is still a viable option even though MS is a bit out of favor (to which I say poo - I remember when Apple was a joke for a while too, and remember when Firefox used to be "cool" and now it's dying the dogs death). The web team should have it fixed soon - Lucas has been a bit out of pocket but I'm sure a few AUD in the right palms will grease things along nicely ;-) I keed, i keed...

Well, if we can't figure out why the spike starting happening 8 weeks ago and have to move to a pricier server, then we can turn stuff on but the taxes will go up. Folks - we do realize this is a real PITA for most users and really want to get these features turned back on ASAP. We're still digging, but even I admit that if we can find a root cause we may have to bite the bullet and move on up (and yes, turn on features again )
-
I'm of the opinion that turning stuff off is no longer the answer. These things were on before 8 weeks ago (when our bandwith spiked), they are unlikely to be the issue. Sorry for all the forum wierdness folks - it's like snipe hunting
-
I use IE all the time too, but am using the older skin. I know Eric is doing some tune-up work, this may be related with caching. I'll let him chime in.

Well, the URL you are hitting is an error page. Can you tell me the steps you are taking to get there? When I go directly to the forum I get no errors. I looked at the forum settings, everything seems to be OK.

Too many thoughts could be it. I get it sometimes too - usually stress related or I have too many irons in the fire. The suggestion to write out everything and get it off your chest is a good one. Also, getting closure on things. No electronics 30 minutes before falling asleep, getting true dark in the room, stretching is good as it relaxes you. Your bed should also only be used for two activities, both starting with an s. If you can't sleep, the best thing is to get up and read a book or write out your plan for the next day. Clearing your mind and relaxing is the body is what you want to do. The last is just...letting go. Sometimes I - and I'm sure others - take on way more on our plates than we can handle, and it should be OK to just do less. I'd also avoid any kind of drug, alcohol, or other type of "thing" to get you to go to sleep, as they interfere with your natural chemistry. The main thing is to be relaxed.

It's also the goal to represent the idealized or common trooper seen, not every possible variation. When you look at hero shots, promo shots, close-ups, what do we normally see when watching the films? And I don't mean that freeze frame blue-ray blown up on your 70" TV This is why holsters and thermal detonators are also required, though there are a few flubs/misses from the prop department.
