  1. Some people have really good eyes, to have spotted this in the first place. On the other picture Andy, I think there is a second Hengstler on the other side of the pilot in summitry too.
  2. Interestingly it looks like the gray metal (Hengstler)? Looking forward to seeing what you've done with the cylinders, looking very nice so far. The caps are interesting what did you end up using there?
  3. Made a little progress today, and things are beginning to take shape quite nicely now:
  4. No I spoke to Joerg his dad actually made them up, but I requested he left the cylinders off. I had wanted a cut out piece at the back but he was unable to do that so I went with the three drill hole configuration. They probably need slight adjustment of about 1/2mm which I'll try and do over the weekend just to help the ends pass through nicely. I think that I'll also trim the wires at the back too, right down to the ends. Another thing I need to address is how they'll attach. I had assumed the material would be magnetic so I was surprised to find that it was not. I'll glue the magnets to the base. One question I have is where would the coils attach I thought I'd read somewhere that it wasn't necessarily into the cylinders themselves?
  5. Well its been a while but my build is now under steam once again. A huge thank you to Mathias (Locitus) for putting me in touch with Joerg at Blastech Armory. Joerg made me the basic cylinders, and as you can see I've just got to do the final adjustments to get this finished. I think you'll agree they wicked, and I simply cannot wait to get these attached to my Sterling. A little adjustment needed here... My other arrival today...
  6. Looking forward to seeing your build progress up here soon Mike.
  7. It sold for over £400 link !?!
  8. Also in Germany you've now got Blastech knocking out wicked replicas to with moving stock etc. Another feature the MR simply doesn't have.
  9. Dressed I think they'd look really spot on. What Jesse has done really does make a difference. Were kind of blessed in the UK as you can own a deactivation for the price of one of these on the Bay. Andy is offering a deactivation in the sales area now for I think £290 and on eBay UK current there is an MR at auction for £330. It just doesn't make sense why people will pay that kind of price for one.
  10. There a deactivated sterling on eBay.com fully dressed I saw t'other day.
  11. Wish I read the responses earlier... two trips to Aldi in ond day!!
  12. These are wicked toys, used to make photo holders in school with them.
  13. E-11 all the way. The sterling is an awesome looking bit of kit, and is fantastically engineered, but I'd definitely go the whole distance. I totally love mine
  14. What stitching do you mean?
  15. Mathias I got some of these in readiness for my power cells. They're pretty strong a couple of these should hold it well if your looking for a way to do that.
  16. Totally love Lego and think this is just great, out next year.
  17. Mathias thanks for the link am pressing ahead with an order for a set of the cylinders, been waiting on Russ for far too long.
  18. Click the banner below, will take you to RS props shop
  19. Thats nice, do they do the cylinders separately?
  20. If you stick that number in google all you get is the shoe size of a host of different brands all a 10. I don't see this significance?
  21. With regards to the actual search I'm afraid it looks like the Marconi route is a dead end. I received the following earlier today: John, I posted your message on the MOGS group and received the response pasted below. I also received a direct mail from a former Technical Director of Marconi Radar who opined: "This IF strip is not Marconi Radar nor from the Radiolocator series of the Marine Company. It does not look like a Marconi designed product at all." I'm sorry we can't help you further with your research. regards, *** Here is the original email: Hi My first though on seeing those photos was that they might perhaps be of an IF strip or similar but that's almost as precise as my saying it looks like a box with valves in it! I presume the comment..... "It is thought that the pieces which are shown originated from a video pulse amplifier strip from a radar set operating at about 30MHz".....should really be interpreted as the pulse amplifier operating at around 30MHz, rather than the radar set itself? :-) Despite the relatively modern B7G valve bases those photos look to be of something quite a lot older than the valve gear that was still coming through Elettra House when I was there in the early 70s. The apparent age isn't helped by the condition but it's certainly not like anything I've ever seen before, either within MIMCo or elsewhere, and the construction style doesn't match any other Marconi valve gear I've worked on either. From 1963 onwards Marconi Marine's head office was based at Elettra House in Westway, Chelmsford, where, as well as the offices, it had a Lab, Test Department, and Workshops, but it wasn't really a manufacturing company. MIMCo's business was installing and maintaining the shipboard installations, as well as providing the Radio Officers who operated and maintained them whilst at sea, and most MIMCo kit was manufactured by the actual Marconi Co, MWT as was, with a variety of other suppliers, including Eddystone for radio gear, Raymart, think that was the name, from Poole for some later radar equipment, etc. As well as the head office, MIMCo had depots in the major shipping centres around the UK and the comment about MIMCo being "based at Liverpool at this time" probably refers to the Fleetwood depot. If similar kit was donated in the 70s then, again, that would suggest it was already quite old by then, and if it did come from Fleetwood it could have been removed from a vessel during a refit, which also raises the possibility that it might not have been originally supplied by MIMCo anyway. Having said that, there are some interesting references to early Marconi post war marine radar developments, including an exterior photo of the Marconi Radiolocater, in "Forty Years of Marconi Radar from 1946 to 1986", a copy of which can be found here..... _www.radarpages.co.uk/download/p172.pdf_ (http://www.radarpage...wnload/p172.pdf) , but I have no idea whether or not that's relevant to this enquiry. Regards Disappointingly the referenced image doesn't show any internals of sets/equipment etc. On the basis of this last mail I really have no idea what direction to take now. I had hoped that this was going to be very positive.
  22. Andy another alternative are the caps that cover mirror screws. These are easily obtainable at B&Q and will sit on a piece of 10mm pipe.
