TK-8596 Requesting ESB EIB Status[257][AM]
Spectre replied to thechosenhitman's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
I had that issue with my AM thighsx they were snug at the top but way too loose at the bottom. I just pulled them apart and made and angled cut so the tops weren't affected but the bottoms were made tighter. -
Rule no. 1 as far as I am concerned: AVOID EBAY/Other such sites. Rule no. 2: If it says '501st approved' it is BS. Even if it is assembled and IS currently approved that approval won't carry onto you. Also even if it is approved and they are selling it, it could be 10 years old and approved by the standards from the, meaning possible more work to get approved than a kit would take. Therefore: avoid this one.

6'1" / 195lb. Armor suggestions?
Spectre replied to tgibson43's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
AM or RT-MOD I reckon. Once you start you'll realise it isn't all that hard to do, just take it slow and careful. -

TK-3483 Requesting ESB Promo EIB Status[256][FX]

100% screen accurate FX?! What a score! That seller must be kicking himself now... Good luck bro, kit's looking good. -
Name: John Schutte ID: TK4605 Forum Name: Spectre Armour: AM Helmet: MTK Blaster: DoopyDoos pipe kit w/ aluminium pipe Height: 183 cm Weight: 93 kgs Boots: TK Boots Belt: TKittel Gloves/hand plates: TK-J (latex plates, rubber gloves) Electronics: i-Comm and Aker amp Neck seal and undersuit: www.stormtrooperundersuit.com Holster: Shiney (local member) ARGH the kidney/butt plate assembly is lopsided! >_< That isn't usually like that, I swear. :/ I know that the ab plate and kidney plate aren't lined up in this photo but they do line up. Gotta clean up my belt a bit methinks... The black stuff on the metal clips is neoprene that I stuck on in an attempt to stop the O2 can from coming off during a troop (doesn't do much to stop that though) All the bits and pieces attached. I believe that is all that I needed to show, yes? If not, let me know and I will get photos of what is needed. Also any additional info/advice/recommendations would be appreciated. Also I would like to say that there are a few things that I want to redo on my kit but I don't have the time to do atm. Re-sizing the kidney/ab plates, re-sizing the bottom of the thighs again, re-sizing the shins, getting new O2 can clips, giving my blaster a once-over with some paint, cleaning my belt, trimming my backplate and neatening the cut on my chest plate... It's a big list, hence why I would rather avoid trying to find the time to do it all before applying for this. John

Armor Cleaning and Polishing
Spectre replied to The White Knight's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I use T-cut too, seems fine as long as you don't cobstantly polish all the time. Excess use might damage the plastic I think. -
I'm on my phone so I can't tell which is up and down, but I think you leave the return edges on.
-
Haha thanks. Not quite, but once the tips are in you'll only know the difference from the inside.

Soon after I completed my helmet I tried to strengthen the area with the mic tips (as the pull became very thin there) using ABS putty. Unfortunately my planning and execution were a bit...bad. Long story short I ended up with the mic tips sealed into the helmet with about 5 - 7 mm of solid plastic under them. That and the putty melted the inner part of the recesses and was completed melded with them. So not only did it look like felgercarb, but I could not get the tips out and they broke when I tried to pull them out. This was the result after Comic Con, the trip home did a fair bit of damage... Basically the mic tips were completely smashed to pieces and I ripped a hole in one recess of my helmet. The same thing was going to happen to the other side so I ended up drilling/sanding that out instead. I repaired the main hole with this blue and yellow tape putty stuff and then covered it over with a layer of ABS putty to make it white again. To fix the 'plug' I drilled it out with my dremel and sanded it down. Unfortunately that ripped a hole in that side too. So I just used electrical tape to cover the hole and then covered it with a layer of ABS putty too. This was the result: Once I put the mic tips back in it should be all good, then I should also be able to apply for EIB.
-
So I was gonna apply but then I sorta destroyed my mic tips/part of my helmet. working on fixing it and then I'll try applying.

Nah mate I've been advised that it's bad for the plastic, so I'd avoid T-cut. Better of going with Novus ABS polish. If it is a Hasbro blaster it will have to modified to be 501st acceptable too.
-
Mate to clean it up and get a nice shine use this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/370608003572?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_922 My mate has a FX kit and he uses that to polish/clean it and it slowly makes it whiter the more you use it. I'd recommend getting rid of the yellowing before trooping in it. You might need a couple of bottles by the end, but see how it goes. Put up some pics of the blaster and holster for us to check out too.
-
I usually go by Reaper, but that was unavailable so I just thought of something else that sounded cool.
-
I'd listen to them mate, the FX IS approvable with some work but honestly for about $100-$200 more you can get a kit that is waaaay more accurate AND is of much better quality. Plus a lot of kits can easily be made to EIB standards from the get-go these days, but that would take a lot of modding for an FX. Plus, like Vern said, it's make for big troopers and if that's what you need AM and RT-MOD are better options.
-
You can still use the FX helmet at the moment, but moves are being made to have it banned for new recruits in attempts to stop the helmets from entering the legion. So it can be used, but I think nearly everyone would recommend upgrading. Ask around too, there are plenty of cheap options for helmets on here, and sometimes decent B-grade pulls go on sale for cheap.
-
Brian, the FX is still approvable with some work. The first recommendation is replace the helmet, the FX lid is horribly inaccurate. Then basically follow this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=12478 It is a bit old but it covers most everything that can and should be done.

Help keep my bells on straight!
Spectre replied to anphrax's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I did that, it doesn't fix the issue much, if at all for me. Go with what everyone has said, shorten the strap from the bell to the shoulder straps, so there is less material to give. -
I'm EIB ready now, I just need to get my photos done. I'm waiting on a mate too, we're gonna apply at the same time. He's waiting on new mic tips.
-
Don't get the full kit! Get the lite kit, you do not want that helmet. Although I do have an AM kit I got a MTK helmet instead of the AM. I did not get the AM helmet because as Brian stated it is horridly inaccurate. There are a few small accuracy things about the armour that some people don't like but I love the sharpness of the details. I am over 6' and about 95kgs thought so it was nicely suited to me as well. ---------
-
Fair enough. Just thought I would ask because so many people panic when they test fit and it fogs up. Try breathing out of your nose too, so the hot air is going straight up at the lenses.
