HWT Game Version Pack Built
Spectre replied to Quartermaster's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Mate that looks awesome! If I ever do a HWT I know who to ask for help on the pack. -
I'd do it, but I don't wanna spend money on an FX just to do it. maybe one day if I ever really stuff up a helmet I will do it.
-
There was a thread about this idea a while ago, but they refused to use FX lids because of their innacuracy. It'd be an awesome idea if you took the proper precautions to avoid melting.
-
I'd say adjust the thigh strapping to bring them up a bit. The way they are now, the sniper plate will go under the thigh while you walk. One you bring the thighs up bring up the shins a tiny bit, they look to be sitting a bit low. Looks good overall mate!

Exactly. We have a relatively good supplier of toy guns here, but just not ones that fire pellets or any form of slugs. http://www.armouredheaven.com.au/index.php/ These people are awesome, and sometimes they have more guns than they currently do, other times they have less. It's the luck of the draw I guess haha Oh, I see. I've always held every toy gun I've owned by the trigger. Force of habit I guess. I'll be sure to avoid that in future pics. I like the saying too. My eventual career goal is a special forces operative, so naturally this sorta stuff is of great interest to me. Also if anyone has any pics of similar costumes they've made, feel free to post up pics. Any motivation/comparison is welcome. I'm hoping to get my gun license soon, and get a rifle of some sort to shoot with (duh, what else. ) and practise my aim. It'd make for good pics too I guess. -

Haha yeah, it'd be cool to make it an Umbrella Corp. outift. Maybe that'll be on the agenda soon, I'm becoming obsessed with cosplays. Costume addiction is the best, I'd have nothing else to do otherwise. Probably drill holes around the edges and then sew it onto a jacket or something, or maybe make a vest for it and sew it to that. There's a few ways I could do it. Trigger discipline? O.o Haha it is an airsoft mask. But I can't get airsoft guns in Australia. :< So I can't be an airsoft player They're used mainly for paintball in Australia. Thanks Andrew. -

Good luck mate! I also have an AM kit, it's pretty awesome, if not the most accurate. If you start with the biceps, just keep in mind that the overlap doesn't work properly. I'd advise cutting off the overlap and butt-joining with covers strips. With the forearms, leave about 8mm of the overlap to join with. I cut off all of the overlap on the outer piece and it made my life hell trying to make them glue together and look normal. Hell, they still don't haha. Lesson learned though. With the thighs and shins, measure about 13mm on each of the raised edges and cut off the rest. This way a 25mm cover strip will cover the butt join nicely. Just things I think you should know. Good luck with the build mate, and ask questions if you need to!

Huh, I just Googled it and I guess it sorta does, let's just say that I won't be doing that any time soon. -
So a few months ago I made a special forces themed costume for the last day of year 12. Here's what it looked like: However, now that it's all done and dusted and I haven't worn it for a long time, I am thinking of giving it a bit of an upgrade. See, I was aiming to make it look S.W.A.T-like, but never really achieved that. I thought to myself, what can I model this costume after? So after a bit of research I decided it was a bit too expensive and time-consuming to try and make it look like anything from a movie/game. Instead, I am going to make it into my own thing! Basically what I am going for is an advanced combat outfit that looks sorta futuristic. I have some old metal I found ont he side of the road that I might spray paint and then sew onto parts of the suit too. Hell, I could go for a future apocalypse spec ops survivor look or whatever I want to really. The prospects for where I can take this are endless. I'm starting by changing the face mask, as I never really liked the massive goggles on it. So I took them apart and am just going to use the lower-face portion. I added some mesh leftover from my MTK build to add to the slots in the mouth to add bit of character too. How it used to look How it looks now So that in itself should lend to the 'advanced gear' look. I might end up adding some more to it, maybe giving it a slight paint job or something. Maybe even add small O2 canister things down the sides? Not sure yet, but that would look cool. Now, a futuristic soldier needs more advanced looking weapony, no? I own a Nerf Alpha trooper and a Nerf Stampede, both of which are going to get painted flat black and then given a silver coat on certain areas. Again, I might add some modifications to these to make them look even better, but that is for later. Covering up the black to do the silver areas Silver areas painted Silver areas painted Silver covered and black repainted More to come! Stay tuned.

That was pretty awesome.

Ok so I botched up pretty badly and as a result cannot be ready for the Ep1 3D release troop I was hoping to go to. Basically I tried to rush the O2 canister and as a result I thought that etch primer was a good idea for a top coat. >.> Don't ask why, just know that it did not bond properly at all and the result was a a big glue and paint mess all over the canister. So I am going to need to get some really gritty sand paper and completely sand it back to the plastic. Once I've done that I will repaint it with a can of flat gray spray paint (that isn't meant for metal and that isn't just an undercoat, seriously, why wouldn't Bunnings have a flat gray top coat spray paint? It's ridiculous) and I'll make sure I tape up the surface where the control panel will glue to and the sides to prevent the paint messing with the glue. I'll need to somehow rip my hovie mic tips out of my helmet and clean up the ABS putty mess I made around the mic tips too, but I don't know how the hell I am going to do that. :/ They're stuck in pretty hard, and I've already torn one of the black parts from the rest of the mic tip. >.< Then I need to somehow take apart the belt and reassemble it because I put the drop boxes much too high and they only hang below the plastic portion of the belt if I force them to. Also does anyone know a way of removing graylead from canvas..? For some reason I thought I might give the O2 canister a silver undercoat but that just isn't gonna work. I have to completely sand all of the paint back before it goes any further. You can see that the paint just does not work. :/ The clips should be fine as they are though. This is a lot more noticeable in person, and I know it's there and I just hate it cos I shouldn't have made that mistake. These definitely have to come down, it looks a bit silly the way it is. Should I move them around a bit too? How can I get the graylead out? All in all I've made a pretty massive mess of my suit in my haste, let this be a lesson I suppose. Never rush your suit for anything. *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh* -
So when are you doing a run of these?
-
Yeah that's usually the recommended way. Start with the biceps and forearms, they're small and easy to handle/trim. They also give you a feel for how the armour cuts and stuff. I ended up doing the body last cos that's how I did mine (also an AM). But as Kade said, do whatever you're comfortable with.

Helmet undercoating
Spectre replied to Boba_Skywalker3's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
You can also find the screen accurate and pretty efficient clover foam padding on Trooperbay's store. It's up to you what you choose to use though. Mine's just some butchered foam that holds the helmet straight. -

Working on the TD/O2 canister at the moment. Spray painted it gray (all Bunnings had for flat gray was undercoat. >.<) and am leaving it to dry before applying a few more coats. I'm using Pandatrooper's method for the clips. Eventually I'll replace the TD and the clips anyway for Centurion. My inner drop boxes also arrived today, so I'll be fitting the drop boxes to the belt and the plastic face as well. I'll have to attach the holster later when it arrives. So once that's done I should be all good for basc approval I think. -

My butt plate does have three straps, just seemingly badly placed ones lol I might pull off the two outer ones and move them further to the sides. -

Haha the trimming would have been ridiculous. Thanks. Not long now. I might end up doing that, I'm gonna wear it on Saturday so I'll figure out then whether I need to or not. -

Mhmm, the AM is a really nice kit. I'd get anotehr one without hesitation. Yeah, I might just use velcro and tight straps between the sides of it and the kidney plate before I glue anything on. If that keep coming undone or something I'll resort to glue. Thanks mate.
