Hi folks, Checking in today and I’ve just noticed I’ve reached 3000+ posts on this wonderful forum!! Wowza... For me, this all started back in 2017. I wanted to renovate my yellowing SDS helmet and stumbled across “whitearmor” on google. I followed some excellent videos by Mike of Trooperbay and resprayed that helmet. Following that, I read more and more on white armor and, not too far down the line, I bought my first helmet kit from Ross at RWA. I documented that here on FISD and received excellent support and advice. That was a big part of the build, helping and supporting the build. After finishing the build, along with the armor kit, and clearing it up to Centurion, I was asked if I’d like to join the Imperial Attaché team - “HELL YES”, I said. :-) I later joined the DO team, helping troopers reach THEIR goals of EIB and CENTURION. If it weren’t for the changing of the guard that year, I’d have likely carried on in the role, along with the legends that are Joseph and Tony. Alas, things changed, however, this year the FISD is back on track under the exquisite leadership of Andrew. Anyway, enough waffling from me. I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to the FISD community. I won’t get into shout outs as I don’t want to exclude anyone, however, I’m pretty sure many of you know who you are - people that have made this forum, this community, so welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable. Keep up the great work, everyone.---------- Best wishes Dan / CableGuy11 points

Update: I’ve made adjustments with a heat gun to deal with the gaps created by shimming riding straight pieces of abs onto the curved kidney plate. As you can see in the photo below, the kidney plates stuck out a ways and made it difficult to close the clamshell properly. You can see the kidney shim jutting out on the left kidney and a little bit on the right. Both were fairly pronounced. (Just FYI, this photo was from last year): To fix the right side I initially tried a grove a slot mechanism to hold things in place. It was fine for the middle of the shim but the top and bottom still jutted out. Dissembling wasn’t an option so I got out my heat gun and carefully heated up and bent the ABS shims inward to eliminate the gaps. Definitely better on the left. I may still bring the bottom in a tad, but it looks much better. On the right, the same. And yes, I trimmed the bottom of the right shim to meet the ab plate. Still have a little sanding and polishing to do on the bottom shim, but that’s not too big a deal. I’m brining in the thigh shims a bit too, I over measured those and it made waking difficult. The right is done and the left will be done tomorrow. I anticipate being able to submit everything by the end of the month. it’s only taken three years...... but hey... it’s close!3 points

Hi, I recently posted replies on 2 detachment merchandise topics and noticed my "thumbs up" icon on lower right of post is missing on both. I am just curious as to 1. if this is normal and 2. is my reply being seen? Thanks !!2 points

Hi there, folks. Well, this kit is now finished and my clearance photos are in. Here’s a couple of the latter bits of progress, then some finished shots of the armour. :-) Belt inspired by the RS belt, down to the cutting of the drop box elastics and the white gaffers tape on the rear. Holster attached. Gap from the edge of the plastic ammo belt to the first fixing is around 40mm.2 points

Good afternoon. I just wanted to do another quick update so I don't get a massive collection of pictures that I end up dumping all at once. I put up a post late Saturday/ early Sunday, where I laid out my goals for the remainder of the weekend. Of course, my goals are typically "in flux," but even with that, I should still be done by the 4th. Here's to hoping. First, I did print off the flexible shoulder straps and they turned out way better than I could have ever imagined. The only issue with TPU is that something with this level of detail really can't be painted; they have to be dyed and I don't even know where to start with that. Therefore, I will use these as a "template" for finishing my armor until the shoulder straps I ordered arrive. I guess since my original intent was to present this build as a 3D Print Tutorial of sorts, it's appropriate to get this boring stuff out there. If you're not interested in 3D Print settings, please scroll down to the fun stuff. First, take a look at the final product: It looks white in the pic, but it's not. I changed the Extrusion Multiplier to 1.10, Retraction Distance to 3.50, Retraction Speed to 40, and turned on Coast at End with a Coasting Distance of .20. When I say "changed" I'm comparing to factory settings. I increased the top solid layers to 5 primarily because of the material. Also, first layer height was adjusted to 90%, width to 125%, and speed remained at 50%. With PLA and ABS, I like to print the first layer extra slow; sometimes as low as 30%. I do this primarily to avoid separation in the first layer. As is the case with any print, the skirt sort of "primes" the extruder. For PLA, or ABS, I run 4 outlines with 0 offset to create a brim. This helps with bed adhesion and support. For TPU, I decrease my outlines to 1 separated by 2.00mm. In a more complex print, this would help with first layer stringing and almost eliminate the prospects of filament dragging across the print. I could eliminate the skirt altogether, but I always want to make sure the extruder is functioning properly with such a finicky material. I didn't change Infill settings. You can't really use supports with TPU; well, you can, but it's complicated. Last month when I printed the Hovi Mic Tip, I used a few, but they have to get cut off. Plus, they were very small. That's why this model was a perfect candidate for the trial. TPU has to be printed hot and slow. The TPU is advertised at 210-230. I actually lowered the bed temp from my typical settings to 60 because the last time I printed at 75, the model was stuck too tight. Also I forgot to take a pic, but I set the extruder temp to 215. I meant to set it to 220, but after seeing the quality of this print, 215 is my new official setting. Funny enough, both of these temps are actually lower than my PLA+ settings. Decreased fan speed to 40. Again, hot and slow. No changes to G-Code. I didn't change my scripts. Some people do, but there's really no need. Print very slow. As I showed when this adventure began, my typical print speed is 180mm/sec. This one's putting along at 30. I also changed outline underspeed to 60 and increased the x/y Axis Movement Speed to 120. I wasn't worried about stuff shaking loose on this one. Change Unsupported area threshold to 10.0. Typically I have this set at 50.0, but again, supports aren't an issue with this print. Nothing else was changed from factory settings. No advanced changes needed. Ok, back to the fun stuff: First, about 3/4 of the way through the print, I knew this was going to turn out great. Typically, when I print with TPU the stringing is unbearable. I think since this was essentially a curvy line, the nozzle really never had to lift from the print and move somewhere else. This was also the first print I ever had where the completion time matched what Simplify3d told me almost to the minute. This kind of gives you an idea of how flexible this stuff is. There are several options for TPU, some more flexible than others. This is about as flexible as it gets. https://i.imgur.com/R6W6oRS.mp4 This video illustrates it again. First, it shows how the model goes from "rigid" to smashed, and then right back to its original shape. Pretty cool. Flexible straps are definitely the way to go. Wow! So, that's it for the TPU 3d Print/ Flexible Shoulder strap post. I like these, but I'm really going to have to play with them before I start telling people to run out and print some off. I may go down to Michaels and pick up some dye this week just to try out a few things. Honestly, if I'm able to successfully dye these to match the armor, it will open up many other options for future builds. Also, regarding the durability, I think I kind of put them through the wringer already (see video above), but I'll torture test them a little more to see how they hold up. My guess is that silicone straps will be more durable. Also, I don't think adding velcro is an option for these, but I'll try some stuff out. Overall, this was a fun little trial, and shows me that TPU may be a practical solution for certain items. I'll post more later.2 points

Hi there, Trooper, I did a whole video series on building a TM helmet, if it helps. This covers basic trimming, ears, construction and painting. Here’s how it turned out.2 points

Hey trooper, Looks like you are nearly there - good work. :-) As you’re going for Centurion, I can’t help but mention another couple of points above and beyond what has been mentioned. Starting from the top, it looks like you could afford to trim at least 2-3mm out of the eyes. This will aid vision as well as being more screen accurate. If you chose to do this, note the nice square lines and corners of the originals, rather than the rounded corners you have now. Also, your tubestripes appear to be on the opposite sides, meaning that the front few stripes point up towards the eyes, not across towards the nose/frown. Here’s more details on that; https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/44755-tube-stripes-anh-stunt-dave-m/ Moving down the the chest, you currently have very thick sides and lower edge. As below in the reference photos, both could be significantly trimmed for a more sleek and screen accurate appearance: Your drop boxes are currently very thick. As below, I’d suggest reducing them quite significantly. Many find that between 12-15mm is good. Also, the inner part is currently protruding beyond the outer part, exacerbating the thickness. Best of luck with your application, trooper. :-)2 points

Hi all! I’ve built a WTF Snowtrooper and a 2016-ish Anovos ANH TK (I found the plastic to be very thin), so for build #3, I’m putting together this Troopermaster kit I bought more than a year ago, capped in 2mm gloss finish (much sturdier!). I am aiming for Centurion accuracy on this build. For some additional context, I plan to 'retire' my Anovos kit, while utilizing some of the parts, such as gloves (which I got as a combo from Trooperbay) and boots (Imperial boots). TM's kit looks to come with just about all of the strapping and rivets needed. As side notes, I also have a build thread started for Jim’s fiberglass (V.5?) First Order TK (which I hope to resume work on after this build, since I’ve had it for almost a year and half with virtually no work on it) and a WTF Scout Trooper on the way. For reference, I’m about 5’6” and 150 lbs., so I know I’ll need to do some heavy trimming on this TK.l, given my experience with my Anovos build. I’ll try to share as much of the build as possible to assist fellow Imperial troops. For the Empire! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I finally found the proper Wedco oil pan on a local marketplace! I also have all the boxes, buttons, straps, tubes, lids, a new TK belt, my orange pauldron, and a resin cast MG for conversion to a DLT-19. I still need to collect a couple of cups/containers to make the funnel, thick craft material for the box details, faux leather for the ammo packs, paint, and various fasteners. I hope to start the build after a couple of paying side jobs are out of the way. I'd like to have it done by Oct 31. But we'll see. I will post more parts/production photos when I get rolling.1 point

"Buckets Off" Greetings troopers August shot by like a laser bolt from a DLT-19, here we find ourselves in September already, and where has the year gone!! 2020 is certainly throwing curve balls left and right but here at FISD we are still soldiering along, albeit with a slightly diminished staff and member capacity due to Covid and real life being vastly different for people this year. With a detachment the size of FISD, it takes a lot more than that to grind us to a halt, and what a month September has been. It's HUGE as is this addition of the newsletter with so much to cover off on, so I will touch on a few highlights and you can read the guts of everything further down in this edition.. This is indeed the FISD celebration, 2020 had to have The March to 1000 campaign finally hit is target of 1000 EI's approved and it is now time to celebrate the victory. I am proud of every single one of the EI's involved in taking their armour a step closer to accuracy and playing a part in this grand event. We revealed the special merch item a week ago "Victory 1000", 11" patch and the sales thread goes live with the release of this news letter. We also revealed the exclusive to the 1000 EI's an additional item of merch in the form of a pin. Details for both of these reside down in the merch section below. These are separate runs but will be open concurrently and strictly open for 4 weeks only so dont miss out. I also had the privileged to award an FISD achievement award, and as many know, these don't get presented very often. This has added much needed clarity to many aspects of this costume reference, making it far easier for builders and GML's alike to understand. We have also added some additional accessories and removed a few grey areas and ANH parts that didn't belong in this version of the TK. Members currently working on this costume now have the option of building it to the old CRL as we will offer a grace period if you are already well underway, or make minor adjustments and build to the new version. Bare in mind when CRL's are updated the previous items are grandfathered in. This does not effect your ability to troop, it would only mean you need to follow the current iterations if you decided to go for Expert Infantry or Centurion. From the Propstore: A Stormtrooper costume from the Disney Plus sci-fi series Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Stormtroopers appeared throughout the series in costumes created by the 501st Legion, a fan group dedicated to creating screen-accurate Stormtrooper suits. This costume, a 501st original later worn during production, includes a hand-painted plastic helmet with a tinted green visor, a pair of plated plastic shoulder armor pieces with connected elastic straps, a plated plastic front and back body armor piece with a snap-button closure, a pair of rubber gloves with dense rubber plates, a plastic, polyester, and leather belt, a pair each of plastic thigh and leg armor, and a pair of leather Requisite boots (U.K. size 43), all in the signature Stormtrooper white with black and metallic details. A metal-studded leather blaster holster is also included, though holsters were removed from costumes and not used during filming of the show. The costume is in good overall condition with visible cracks throughout from wear, some frayed elastic, and bending to the visor. Star Wars & Sims Star Wars is coming to The Sims 4 on September 8, 2020, with a slew of new features inspired by a galaxy far, far away. Anthony Paladino TK10666( aka Redforce) is one such trooper worthy of this accolade for his meritorious behavior. Anthony has continued to support his fellow troopers through the attaché system, initially earning him the attaché award. Anthony again stepped up recently to helm a rather large patch run which ran its course in a record time from the first post in the sales thread, to the last package posted. Not only has this run just wrapped up but Anthony is now helping Joseph with the 11' Victory 1000 patch run, educating him on his excellent system of organizing and shipping packages, lets also add to this that he has also offered to write up a "How to" of what he does to make a merch run fast and efficient, something the detachment will continue to benefit from now, and into the future. Please join me in congratulating Anthony on this achievement of excellence. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. You can find the master award area here https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/182-fisd-master-armorer-program Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. First off is 11b30b4, Eric will be helping us out in the Georgia area with his knowledge of the Rouge One TK. Secondly is Hoda, Eric will be filling the North Texas Squad spot. He’s got a good amount of knowledge with the ANH stunt and hero as well as the ESB TK. Thirdly is Tarok, Rudi will be filling the Knightfall Garrison spot in Australia. He will be helping out with his TK stunt knowledge as well as working towards his EIB status. Feel free to pick their brain either online or in person. And as already stated a big thank you to Eric Ho (Hoda) who stepped up and has been doing all the trading cards for the detachment. Eric was awarded the Attaché Award for all the hard work he’s done in helping get the trading cards back on track. The staff thanks all of them for going above and beyond and helping others. With Unquestioned Loyalty Frank Peranteau TK75139 "Frank75139" Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Photo Checklists To make it easier (and faster) to get you approved, we have updated the Photo Requirement checklists for both OT and FO and included visual examples of what we as D.O.s are looking for in order to move you along at an expedited rate. These can be found here: Expert Infantry: (For all non-FOTK costumes) Centurion: (For all non-FOTK costumes) FOTK: (EI and Centurion) Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. Thank YOU, Dan, for the fantastic resources you’ve contributed to the forum! Only recently I was actually marveling at your three-year journey, and comparing it to my 10 months on the forum thus far. Talk about a fast progression on your part! I’m still in the infancy stage myself, or perhaps still “unborn.” Haha. Looking forward to many more finer-detail gems from you for years to come! Hello and welcome, armor choice is personal, comes down to price, location, longevity, screen accuracy, some are more accurate than others which you pay for. LFL requests do not come in very often, but some garrisons get a lot more than others, if you haven't already sign up to your local garrison forums, you can find herehttps://www.501st.com/members/displayUnits.php It is up to you to look after your own armor and any updates, LFL has nothing to do with members armor. LFL has final say over which member/armor will be used for events. Building to L3 Centurion will make your armor more screen accurate which may give you a greater chance of being picked but that's not guaranteed. If you haven't yet look through the CRL's (costume reference gallery) https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Research is the key to this hobby, you can never research enough, good luck with your decision.1 point

Had this with my ATA thighs, a little heat would help. I used a small piece of wood either side to make sure I didn't loose any shape of the ridge You don't have to fill the joins however it is screen accurate to do so1 point
-
It does take some practice using heat on abs, it can go from slightly heated to molten mess very quickly. I use a heat gun but I've had a lot of practice and pretty confident using it, many use the hot water bath method. When possible I try to have a plug/piece of wood behind areas I am trying to modify, it helps keep it nice and straight, if you get in trouble having wood on both sides can help any bumps or lumps1 point

Hi Mark, according to the crl for L3 they're optional. Cut-out notches at the bottom of right and left sides of the Kidney Armor are optional. If present, each notch is approximately 22 mm tall and the back of the notch ideally is aligned with the front edges of the Posterior Armor plate.. Cheers1 point

Jason, great work so far. FWIW, I did a RO glove comparison between EF and IB. I prefer the EF. here is the link. Also, most likely the reason the 3D files for the forearms were originally solid was that the OT forearms are glued closed and you do slip them on. Obviously not the case for the ROTK but that may have been the thinking.1 point
