I’ve been poking around my local garrison’s page for the last few years, and have decided against a sandtrooper for my first build in favour of a classic TK.

I’m aiming for an approved centurion for when I turn 18 in March, so I have a bit of a journey ahead!

Using the guidance from many helpful threads, I’ve contacted Mark (Authentic Props) and am getting a self-assemble trimmed kit. I’ll be logging my progress when I start getting things together and look forward to sharing the fun with everyone!

Welcome to the FISD.

They key to a smooth build really is reading up first before you do anything and then asking lots of questions. Sounds like you've mad a decent start on that already.

Hi Noah and welcome to FISD!

Research is indeed the key to this hobby, and was a lot harder years and years ago compared to now.

We have a great team of staff and members who are well versed in the construction of hard armour, so ask as many questions as possible.

We all want you to have a successful build and enjoy the journey to becoming an approved Stormtrooper.

There are also 2 additional and totally optional levels of approval, to get your armour looking even closer to screen accurate.

Do check these out as it is easier to build to them as you go rather than making adjustments at the end of your build.

Here are the links to Expert Infantry and Centurion levels.

Welcome to the FISD, Noah, and great to hear that you have ordered your armor!  As has been mentioned, research is the key to a successful build.  Another bit of advice is to take... your... time.  Trying to rush through a build can (and usually does) lead to "oops" moments.  When in doubt, ask.  We are here to help every step of the way!

Another thing I suggest is to get all of your build supplies in order before starting.  Having things on-hand and organized will make life easier.  Trust me.

As Andrew mentioned, there are 2 optional accuracy levels after Basic 501st approval which are honestly not that difficult if you want to go the extra mile.  It's much easier to tackle these during your build rather than after, and the extra work will definitely pay off with a much better looking set of armor.

If you have already joined the Outer Rim Garrison you should ask about "Armor parties".  There may also be some local TKs that are willing to help in person, but know that we are here for any and all advice you need.

Have FUN with your build, and I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

Thank you all for the great replies! I will definitely spend some quality time researching - until I get my armour, I’m planning on replacing Instagram with Tapatalk, haha.

Thank you for linking build supplies. I don’t plan on taking any shortcuts, so being fully prepared with supplies sounds great. I’ve got all summer to build and only (loosely) have a goal of having it done for Halloween, which is hopefully accomplishable. Whether I make it or not, I’ll have a clearer picture down the road!
