HWT CRL Changes - Your input is requested

Recommended Posts

OK, so I remember getting a ton of request to update the HWT CRL.  Below are a compiled list of suggestions.  Before I start working with the LMO, I want to ask for your thoughts and ideas.

What do  you like about the changes, what's wrong?  What pictures need to be replaced (besides the model)?

------------

We have new updated photos for the main HWT CRL pics, which will be replacing those that are there now.  The thing is with the one shown is this:  At the time when they created the original CRL, there was really no one with a definitive pack, so Brian stepped forward.

Recently in the Staff area they asked for suggestions to update the CRLs, and this is what I posted:

There has been quite a bit of controversy over these CRLs as of late, which you may have noticed.   I am not asking for radical changes by any means, just to clarify the items a bit.  Below I have copied/pasted the original CRL areas, and my suggested changes are in red, and are obviously open to editing.

Backpack
For 501st approval:

  • Backpack is styled after and closely matches the backpack seen in the Battlefront series as seen in photos and is a requirement for basic approval No video monitors, extra greeblies. lights of any sort or attachments not seen in photos can be present at any level.

Pauldron
For 501st approval:

  • A black, orange, or white neck ornament made of leather or a leather-like material, worn over the right shoulder.
  •
  • For level two certification (if applicable):
    • Pauldron is of the padded "puffy" variety.
    • Older style flat and off color pauldrons are incorrect.
    • Pauldron must be orange in color
    • Pauldron is lightly scuffed,(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD).

Thermal Detonator
For 501st approval:

  • No Thermal Detonator is permitted at any level.
  • The Thermal Detonator (a.k.a. O2 canister) attaches to the back of the belt.
  • Detonator consists of a grey cylinder, between 2”(50mm) and 2.5" (64mm) in diameter, with white end caps on each end.
  • Detonator includes a white control panel pad, with controls closest to the right end cap.
    • Note: The Thermal Detonator is omitted from this costume when a pack is worn.

For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned with little to no gap between the clips and the end caps.

Ammo Pouches
For 501st approval:

  • German MP-40 style ammo pouches.
  • Pouches are black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.
  • White stitching must be covered with paint or a permanent black marker
  • There are a minimum of two pouches required for basic approval.
    • One pouch on the left shoulder and one on the right hip.
  • Option:
    • A third pouch worn on the opposite hip.

Belt
For 501st approval:

  • Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt).
  • The soft belt proper is made of canvas, or material with a canvas covering. Size is 2.75” (70 mm) to 3.25”(83 mm) wide and not wider than the plastic portion of the belt. The color is white to off-white.
  • It is not allowable to have drop boxes for the 501st requirements. If the drop boxes are used, they dangle from the sides of the front plastic belt (ammo belt) via white straps and are aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt
  • Holsters are not permitted at any level.
  • Drop boxes are not permitted at any level.

For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Belt face(TK ammo belt) is lightly scuffed,(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD).
  • Canvas belt cannot contain holes from holster removal.

Clears up a few things

If we are approved all ready, are we to resubmit?

My 2 cents.

1) Though I agree with Joseph I'm not sure we need to state "No video monitors, extra greeblies. lights of any sort or attachments not seen in photos can be present at any level." If people look at CRL, Photo Gallery or any number of build photos they'll see this is apparent.

2) Since the exterior visual accuracy is what we strive for here on FISD then if a belt has a required MP-40 pack covering any belt discrepancies, holster mounting holes or other, I don't believe it matters if they're there. IMHO

I like the changes.

I am assuming anyone approved previously would be grandfathered in of course.

I definitely like the look of no drop boxes and holster.

This was the only thing that stood out to me.  My current plan for getting approved was to fully cover the holster holes with my leather MP-40 pouch.  Of course I'll adapt as needed, but it seems like the pouch will fully cover the holster holes and should stay in place with the velcro I was going to add to the back side.

Ammo Pouches

For 501st approval:

  • German MP-40 style ammo pouches.
  • Pouches are black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.

Additionally, there was talk at some point of making sure the pouches were of the same material for each trooper, i.e., trooper#1 has all canvas and trooper#2 has all leather, which is ok, but trooper#3 having both canvas and leather pouches mixed was less-than-optimal.  I originally went the TD route and got two leather and one canvas pouch and later went back and got a third leather one.  Perhaps add this requirement only for higher levels?

Shawn - yes the 501st policy is that once you are cleared for a costume you are grandfathered forever as long as you do not have a break in service.  Thus if you were approved in 2005 with out of the box FX armor, you could in theory still troop with that unaltered armor today, 11 years later.

Any changes to the CRLs are forward looking only.

LMO edits below.

Backpack

  • Backpack is must be styled after and closely matches the backpack seen in the Battlefront series as seen in photos and is a requirement for basic approval No video monitors, extra greeblies. lights of any sort or attachments not seen in photos can be visible present at any level.

    • Note: The Thermal Detonator is omitted from this costume when a pack is worn.

For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned with little to no gap between the clips and the end caps.

Hip Ammo Pouches
For 501st approval:

  • Two three slot German MP-40 style ammo pouches shall be worn on the hips with one on each side of the belt.
  • Pouches are entirely black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.
  • Pouch stitching must be black. White stitching must be covered with paint or a permanent black marker
  • There are a minimum of two pouches required for basic approval.
    • One pouch on the left shoulder and one on the right hip.
  • Option:
    • A third pouch worn on the opposite hip.

Shoulder Ammo Pouch
For 501st approval:

  • One three slot German MP-40 style ammo pouches on the right shoulder.
  • Pouch is black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.
  • Pouch stitching must be black.

Belt
For 501st approval:

  • Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt) and does include drop boxes.
  • Holster must not be present. (This is awkward I know but i prefer similar wording as opposed to "not permitted at any level")
  • Holsters are not permitted at any level.
  • Drop boxes are not permitted at any level.

For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Belt face (TK ammo belt) is lightly scuffed(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD).
  • Canvas belt cannot may not contain have visible holes from holster removal.

I haven't seen a screen shot of a HWT without two pouches on the hip. That wording came right from the sandy CRL.

I do think that a canvas shoulder pouch is acceptable but I'm open to making it leather since the shoulder pouch in the game looks like the same as the hip.

EDIT: Daetrin fixed some tiny typos (e.g. plural when it should be singular, etc.)

I agree with Tony about belt. With pouch covering holes from holster I don't think that should matter. I like Eric's edit except the drop boxes. But I can live with it. I don't think we need to add the Video/lights section. If they follow CRL it shouldn't be an Issue. But Thanks for including me, I feel Special! The new CRL will definitely be improved with omission of TD and new photos. I'm sure it's a lot of work but wouldn't it be better for each section to have a photo to accompany it. Like cod rivet and butt plate snap location. And maybe photo showing free floating sholder straps and how they should look. I know this is stuff for a regular TK but it works for this one too. I'm always told by recruits that some wording isn't straight foward and a picture would help. Just my 2 credits.

Just because you watch porn on your video screen doesn't mean everyone should.

I see no drop boxes here:

I'm also leaning toward making the shoulder pouch leather-like without the small pouch. Thoughts?

And yo those ab buttons are black. L2? L3?

By golly you're right. Right there in front of me in the image I just posted.

I'm happy to move this to optional accessories if Paul agrees.

Good catch on the ab buttons though it could just be bad lighting lol

The black buttons would render the swap between clean TK useless. You trying to take our selling feature?

Did you wipe off all that shmootz TooShort put on yours yet? ;)

That would be terrible for future HWT's. I think we would see a sharp decline in the number of people submitting. Unless they get creative with magnets.

I agree, I think the button color should stay as it has been.  Perhaps make it an optional change, but not required at any level, if you want to acknowledge the existence / possibility?  Given lighting differences, I don't know that it's a sure thing anyway.

TD should be optional, I'd think, considering it DOES show up sometimes onscreen.  Likely preferred to leave it off, but hey, if someone figures out a way to wear theirs, why not?

I think we should keep things basic for L1 and if you really want to tighten up, leave that for L2.  Ab buttons are one good example, and it's pretty clear the TD should be optional.

Else, what is the point of L2/L3 if we make things overly strict at L1?

Just my opinion but without a clear shot of the ab buttons the color will be up to speculation anyway. From no more than a few feet away imperfect images or non-optimal lighting render colors almost impossible to distinguish, we've seen this with quite a few applications. I wouldn't worry about this even being a factor to be honest.

Shoulder Ammo Pouch
For 501st approval:

  • One three slot German MP-40 style ammo pouches on the right shoulder.     Liking your ideas Eric, but actually, this should be left shoulder.

Here are my opinions for what they are worth..

1.  I am willing to concede on the TD being optional at basic.  I personally cannot wear mine because of the pack, but perhaps a taller Trooper may be able to.

2.  The "No video monitors, lights... " on the pack addition was to hopefully dissuade this practice from continuing.  A few small discreet greeblies I have no problem with, but in many cases this has been taken to the extreme as we have witnessed.

3.  Pauldrons should be orange from the get-go, (basic) for two reasons..  That is the way they are in the game, and if someone (hopefully) wants to move up to levels 2 and 3 they won't have to replace them in order to do so.

4.  Leave the ab buttons as they are.

5.  Two ammo packs for basic, 3 for higher levels.  (Most are sold in sets of two).
