  1. Ouch, Shiv my buddy. That's bad news...breakage problems. Yuck! I hope you get your replacement bipod soon. @Dean: need more closeups of certain parts? Let me know, I'll see what I can do. @Matt: AFAK the black is ANH canon, but the rules aren't that strict. I like the black as well, but I like the woodgrain/Bakelite look better (as seen on Braksbuddys "looksirdroids" page) and decided to go for that color instead on my BFG. And thanks all for your praise!
  2. A little resurrection of my old thread here. I have repainted my DoopyDoos DLT-19 since last time, I never was too happy about the "metallic" effect of V.1, so here's V.2. I even managed to get better pics of some of the details that DoopyDoos put into their casts, like symbols and writing on the bipod.
  3. Very creative request, that was very amusing. And whoa, nice armor. Photo shoots really do bring out one's gear, right? And like all other were saying...why now, why not earlier? Well, better late than never.
  4. Congrats on making it again. Easy pass. But damn you, now I want TM.
  5. Oh, seems I forgot to mention the most important detail: it's not scratch built, it's a one-piece design (the main body ist, plus some additional parts, all hollow), kinda like injection moulded. That's what I thought was spectacular. The only thing I added was the rail that holds the scope, I used aluminium for that.
  6. The only help I can give you is that I own a hollow E-11, but sadly, it's origin is quite the mystery to me: I bought it from someone who bought it from this other guy...you know how that works. I got it very cheap because it was all bent in the wrong places, but a heatgun solved most of its problems and now it's my main trooping E-11. It's very flexible and lightweight while still quite looking the deal with an appropriate finish. Here's a pic: Not much help, but know you know such things exist. Maybe someone else can tell the story of it's origins?
  7. I can recommend the Doopydoos blaster as well. From what I've seen and read, the Cushman is too soft in details and would not be one of the best choices IMHO.
  8. Congrats on making EIB, and in 2009 even. Will we be 100 this year? It's only...well, 2 days to accomplish that. Let's wait and see!
  9. Nice pics! Reminds me of my studio shoot a lot, the setup with the background looks almost exactly as it did when I had my photos taken!
  10. That's what I thought. The only one wielding a DLT-19 onscreen in ESB is 4-LOM, even Dengar has a gun based on the MG42 rather than an MG34. We never see stormtroopers carry them in EPV.
  11. What he said.
  12. I'd say the same. A buddy of mine has a strikingly similar fiberglass helmet and I've held it and worn it. It looks very much the same as this, and his is most likely a SDS battle spec recast.
  13. Like the guy says in the auction text himself: it's another hybrid blaster. One that cant't decide which version it wants to be. If it came with the Leia, I'd say go for it.
  14. No prob mate, happens all the time. People tend to think I added the "H" in "Han". No, the 2nd H in ObiHahn has to be there, trust me. I sure can give a quick tuto on my weathering technique, but it's nothing too fancy: a dull black base coat was already on the gun when I got my DLT-19. I went ahead and gave it a light sanding (very light, don't sand over some of the details!) and gave the whole thing a satin black coat of paint. I then drybrushed it with gun metal and toned that down with another very light coat of satin black, more of a black overspray. More drybrushing, with silver metallic over the edges for a more worn look and finally some very light bronzing to give an overall appeal of used metal. The box that I added on the receiver I painted silver and then sprayed black on top. I then scratched the box so the silver shows through in spots. Very convincing, methinks. The stock is dark brown with some scratches and a light black overspray. Seal the whole thing with a few coats of protective clear coat (mine was semi-gloss) and you're done. This was my main reference for the BFG: http://www.looksirdroids.com/replica_weapons2.html
  15. I guess back in the 70s when they were shooting ANH, not many crew members were aware of any stripes whatsoever. It is a small detail if you think about it, nothing major that distracts from the overall stormtrooper look. So they got sloppy, like, a lot. The suits weren't as iconic and as well studied as they are today back when they made the movie, no one seems to keep that in mind. My guess is that the odds are very good Mr. No Stripes was not shot that way on purpose. They grabbed whatever helmet was around and went ahead to shoot the scene - always with a very tight schedule behind them!
  16. Congrats, mate. I have that one too, it's quite the beauty. Nothing beats a BFG!
  17. Why thank you, how very kind of you guys!
  18. You're right, Bruce, it's a DD. I still modded quite a few things on mine and went ahead and weathered the whole thing, but the drilled barrel is actually out-of-the-box DoopyDoos. So I take it not all of their DLT-19s come with pre-drilled holes like mine...? What's the latest on your weathering, Shiv? Any pics, any progress?
  19. I cant' help but wonder what would've happened a couple years ago if TM/Paul had asked the same thing and people had told him "Don't do it, it's crazy". So by all means, Jim: go do it, you might even be the next TK wunderkind. Who knows what reference you can amass and what sculpting talent might be in your hands!
  20. I totally understand him. Big guns rock. Nothing to overcompensate, just trying to keep everything equally sized, right?
  21. Great build, Paride. Very clean work, impressive. Test fitting looks good! I think people strap the arms as one piece because it's screen accurate. You can see it attached like this on Luke's set of armor in the Death Star control room scene. That, and it looks secure and comfy. I prefer not to connect the forearm and bicep pieces though because removing the forearms and gloves from time to time can be very comfortable (especially with the rubber gloves I use...) during a longer troop. You know, if you want to eat or something.
  22. That's what I thought was the ESB blaster... the one with all the greeblies and rifle hammer thingys is a ROTJ, right? Or does anybody have any ESB screengrabs showing the ROTJ style guns? Watching ESB the other night, I only saw ANH style blasters without Hengstlers.
  23. Whoa Rolf, that is beautiful! Like metal, really convincing! Is your stock black or is it a very, very dark brown? I'll look out for your pics tomorrow, Shiv.
  24. Thanks for your feedback, troops! You're right, those guys were real skinny in the movie. Better be able to kick @$$ than be blown to the ground with only 1 or 2 puny blaster hits on your chest, huh? @Mark: I dunno...EIB is given for detail-oriented assembly and the general quality of your build. At least that's what I thought. The make or brand of an armor has nothing to do with it AFAK. I bought it because it was of a quality that I liked, no more, no less. Back to topic, I feel the need to have another round of studio photoshooting: this time with my BFG! I can only recommend anyone to do this, it's really fun and you get top notch pics of all your gear.
  25. Hey Rolf, 1. it sure is resin, as far as I can tell. That's what DoopyDoos say and that's what it feels like. It came spraypainted in dull black, but I sanded it down a little before I applied my own paint and there was some yellow primer showing and then some white-ish resin. 2. it seems strong enough, yes. I'm not too afraid that it will break under normal handling. I've taken it apart multiple times now and it still feels strong and solid. 3. it's heavy enough to kinda feel like it is a weapon, but it's not "12kg original MG34" heavy, that much I can tell. I never weighed it, but my guess is it is in the 5-6-7 kg range...my guess is it will still make your arms sore after a long hard day of trooping... I'm very happy with it, especially after modding it for more accuracy.
