AP vs TM differences
james007bond replied to TK bondservnt's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
As an owner of AP armour, is it better then TM, well that's subjective and is a matter of opinion. I have trooped a few times and each time I see TM armour, I admire it... I admire the lines, I admire the curves, I admire the quality..... Ask FBJ, at my first troop I would have ripped the armour of his body just to try it.... My suit is EIB standard, yet there is something about it that does not please me.... I want better and in my opinion TM is that.... Everytime I see a TM suit, I yearn to own one...... Yes the thighs have a slight pinch.... and yes there are some marginal curves.... but stand an AP trooper next to a TM trooper ... it's simply no contest..... With that in mind, I am seriously considering selling my AP armour (lock, stock & barrel) to move onto TM....... jk007, nice pics buddy... armour looks good on ya..... Oh and here's me on a jolly.... ----- ----- -
Hi Guys, I'll put some close up shots of mine up tomorrow, weather permitting that is.... My paintwork has an almost metalic dark grey finish to it.. it's very smooth almost as if it's lacquered.... The stock is very black, perhaps to resemble bakelite.... and contrasts with the rest of the gun.... It feels very solid and I will try and drill one of the holes out to see if I can or not.... fingers crossed
-
Danke.... I did work in Munich for a year, so I learned some German, drank lot's of HBH beer and spent lots of evenings in beer gardens... Regarding the stock, I was thinking about painting it brown... but may just leave it black as is.... The black paint I have on it at the moment is different from the black/grey resin though, so there is a contrast already....however, it may be difficult to see it in photos. Oh, by the way, did I tell you, I have found a German eagle emblem symbol on the tripod... I've painted it metallic silver and then wiped off the excess paint so that the paint has seeped into it... Hopefully it will show on the photos... BTW, I love your signiture.... looks awesome.... permission to steal it too
-
Hallo Dennis das ist wunderschon... It's looking good..... I've finished the weathering on mine, but i'm now thinking of whether to paint the stock or not? I'll post pics of the WIP soon... Grusse shiv

Pulling for you Darren.... Let's get you into the top 100.... Can I help in any way? Thirteen to go.... it's lookin good for the magic 100... Are we having special badges made up for the first 100? Now there's a thought..

Hi Natham Need to rant here too.... RANT ON*** I agree, way too thin... I am shocked at some of the ABS that cracks too easy.... or when you get a helmet kit and find that the plastic is way too thin..... I just don't get it, if the same manufacturer can make body armour of a decent thickness, why are the buckets so thin.... I've had to re-enforce my Hovi points as an example....... good old t-shirt and crazy glue method... Yeah you're, may aswell make it yourself...... If I pay good money for something, I do so in good faith and I expect decent quality... They say 'You get what you pay for' ... ha poppycock.... that's not always the case... Perhaps it's time our community applied pressure to get things sorted? RANT OVER **

Looking good there Dennis.... I've nearly finished weathering mine too... will post up pics. One question, on your tripod leg, do you have the German Eagle symbol... ?

The job these guys do is incredible... They are heros and deserve our respect and gratitude.... The freedoms we enjoy and take for granted is due to the hard and dangerous work that our armed forces do, regardless of nationality, culture and colour .... A salute to all heros who have fallen in the line of battle and those that continue to serve in theatres around the Globe.... these people will not be forgotten......

Will start on the mod next week and pics will come for sure....

My New ANH2 Blaster
james007bond replied to thon2009's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I'm sure you can get some cream for those 'ItchyNuts'... He does do good work.... and his a gentlemen... -
Hallo Dennis, Good news is that i've got the green light to paint my stock.... Bakelite colour, so i'll start doing that during the week and also dry brushing it..... From what I can gather, if you look at the DLT19 in the film, they were black.... look closely at the stock... and yes, there seems to be no real reference material/guidelines as such.... I'll have a another look at ANH and double check..... but one thing is for sure... my BFG needs weathering for sure......
-
That's a good idea using metallizing black paint, I guess it will give the resin a metalic look....I'll have to try that for sure.. The dry brushing affect looks impressive, I like the way you have highlighted the screws/bolts... I will have to get permission from the UKG GML regarding the painting of the stock as from what I have gathered, in the films the gun stocks were black, but I will wait and see what he says.... Keep it up buddy.. Shiv
-
Hey Dennis, Man no matter which angle I look at your BFG, it looks the business... I will have to weather mine for sure too... If you are ever over here in the UK for a troop, I know a few other guys who also have DLT-19s and we will definetly 'rack em and stack em'... Mine is still the plain black... hehe, also i've decided not to drill the vent holes, incase I have to use it as a 'club' ... I'll update my thread as and when... cheers buddy.... On another note, I will need to ask permission from the UKG GML if I can weather mine like yours as there might be a few concerns about having a brown stock... I'll post back when I know...

james007bond replied to firebladejedi's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Dirty boy Seriously, it does look, well..... well used... Funny thing is, the scuffs look really good...... What about your bucket? I have the odd scuff or two, or three, but will still Novus them away... (sorry) -
Dennis That paint job looks fantastic..... you've done an excellent job there.... Mine is just plain black... hehe, what colour brown have you used for the stock? Almost looks like real wood The distinguishing features between mine and yours are the venting holes and the cocking handle... other than that they look identical....... I expect mine could have been an earlier model and yours the improved lighter version hehe, having said that, mine feels rock solid and is heavy'ish. However, I do like your venting holes.... mmmm I may need to get the drill out on mine.... I think we should use your pics as reference pics as you've done a sterling paint job on it buddy.... awesome... Dennis, did you say that you cocking handle unscrews (pardon the pun... hehe) as if it doesn't then that DLT will not really flat pack well? shiv
