  1. Just wondering if a helmet is made out of fiberglass, is it a guaranteed recast? Are all of the real prop makers using ABS or Styrene only? Is there anyone making original helmets out of fiberglass? Just wondering, because I see plenty of good looking helmets on Ebay, but then they are made from fiberglass.
  2. I got the one from Nikkimat and don't like it at all. It is not put together well, and one of the velcro strips has come unsewn... very frustrating.
  3. Amen, brother, my feelings exactly!
  4. I'm definitely a fan of Star Trek, but it's focus is more on the exploratory and scientific which doesn't hold my attention as well as when lightsabers start swinging and people start getting force choked!
  5. We got a tauntaun sleeping bag as a christmas gift for our kids from their uncle. They all love it. I tried it out and didn't find it very comfortable, but then again, it's not made for comfort, it's made because it's cool!
  6. There you go Brad, there's your answer!
  7. Ask him for a pic of the inside of the bucket, that will tell you a ton!
  8. Just looking at the photos and seeing the ears as one piece with the helmet instead of separate pieces screwed in, makes me think it might be a recast.
  9. Looks like you need to put some black mesh behind the teeth in the helmet as well. You look great in the armor!
  10. Looks so good! The only suggestion I would add is to add some straps connecting the chest and back piece together so they stay snug up against your body.
  11. WOW, I am so impressed with the clean, sharp pulls with this armor, especially that chest piece, it's almost sexy looking!
  12. I too had the same problem and tried cutting the stripes longer to give a better area to have the glue stick to, but I was still very worried about them coming undone when I would have to undo a snap getting out of my armor. The solution I came up with was to use white industrial velcro across it, as if it were tape. Knowing how strong the velcro is really got rid of all of my fears about the snaps ever coming undone from the armor. If you can't picture it, let me know and I'll post a photo.
  13. That's a great looking mannequin as well, it's posed very naturally. It doesn't look stiff and fake like most mannequin's.
  14. Interesting, you'll have to tell us how well it works when trooping. My only question is can you put it in and out of your mouth without using your hands and/or taking your helmet off? Might be hard to talk to people with that in your mouth the whole time.
  15. This brings up a big detail: don't get a full body suit, get leggings and a top so that once you've opened your armor up, you still have an opening in your under armor as well, otherwise everything's got to come off!
  16. First you should ask yourself what things are important to you. For example is screen accuracy a priority, or does your budget require you to see how cheaply you can do it? Another question to ask yourself is if you have the patience for assembling and building a helmet or if you'd like to purchase one that is pre-built. Your preferences will help determine which type of armor you should consider. I'll use myself as an example. I wanted to get into armor quickly, plus I was not worried too much about screen accuracy. I'm not good at building things, so I got a Master Replicas CE helmet because the thought of assembling a helmet was overwhelming. I was kind of on a budget as well so I wanted armor that was on the cheaper end. I chose FX armor because besides being cheaper, it was also one of the easiest types of armor to put together. I'm happy with my decision because the other TK's in my garrison also wear FX armor, so we look good together, plus the average Joe wasn't going to see that my FX armor wasn't screen accurate. In fact, my neighbors were so impressed that they were asking if it was the real armor used in the movies!
  17. Here is a pic from an event for comparison. I am the TK on the right. I have my cod cut and have put a snap and strap in it connecting it to the butt plate nice and tight. For me, it's not just the ability to have the cod flip up for sitting purposes, but to have it bend back towards your body. It helps avoid the "Happy Trooper" took if you know what I mean! I like it snug up against my body, I think it just looks better. The TK on the left does NOT have a cut cod piece. --------
  18. I've had mine cut since day one, and love the snugness of it. I have a friend in my garrison who has had his armor over a year and just now decided to cut the cod. I was at an event when he was suiting up for the first time with the newly cut cod piece and as he put on his armor he exclaimed "Oh wow, the cut cod feels so much better!"
  19. good choice, I think you did the right thing by turning them down.
  20. I hold it in my right hand, and I even built myself a holster that I wear on the right side of my body.
  21. I'm 5'9" (5'10" with my helmet on ) so if I'm the optimal height for a stormtrooper, how come people frequently use the "aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" line on me all of the time?
  22. My wife just got a mac book pro a couple of months ago - it's awesome, I'd definitely recommend it.
  23. I'm skipping this movie: I hate watching 3D people as the main characters, all I can do the entire time is watch how awkward their mouths are when they talk.
