  1. I've done the belt method as well, although I have two straps coming off of the front of the thigh snapping to the belt.
  2. I love it, that is awesome. I did a cancer walk over a week ago, and there was a 5 year old boy there who was very sick. He was in a jogging stroller, had no hair and looked like he hadn't been in the sun at all recently, very pale skin. The dad asked me to get a picture with him which I did and then I let him hold my hasbro blaster and shoot it. He didn't talk, looked too sick to do so, but loved shooting that gun over and over! It was fun to be with him for that moment and made me realize just how blessed I am to have 4 wonderfully healthy children of my own.
  3. front of leg
  4. I agree, if you have to pick one side, I'd glue the upper/top side and velcro the bottom.
  5. Couple more: -----
  6. In the craft section of Walmart: "Foam Seat Cushions" $10 for a package with 4 cushions in it. What's really cool about it is that by moving the foam cushion ring in the helmet to different spots slightly, I can easily adjust how the helmet sits on my head. I've got it down perfect right now where my head sits towards the back of the helmet so that my nose and mouth are not touching the front of the inside of the helmet. I love it!
  7. I'm guessing that there are probably some Jedi costume snobs out there who are cringing over what the Jedi's were wearing in the two shots where they were seen. I didn't see anything wrong with them, but that's probably because I'm just not educated enough.
  8. Without the clips for it, it was near impossible for me. Instead I went to Walmart and bought some foam, took it home and cut it round with a hole, like a big donut shape and crammed it into my helmet. It's a snug fit and doesn't need to be glued at all. I love it, very comfortable, and if the foam gets nasty after a while, I can just cut a new piece and replace it!
  9. And neck seals, why weren't they wearing any NECK SEALS??? This was written so well, but it came out looking unprofessional when one stormtrooper looks different than the others. Either do all Rubies costumes, or all FX armor, but don't mix and match, yikes!
  10. Rubies is practically a swear word around here, don't do it!
  11. Yes, that happened to me as well. You have to watch the angle that you hold the pin at as you hit it with the hammer. Trust me, I was so glad to be done with the 'snap' phase of assembly, it's not too fun.
  12. Hammer and pin method worked fine with my Tandy snaps. Did you make sure to get the right pin size?
  13. With friends like that you don't need enemies. I hope they return it!
  14. I agree. It really shouldn't be a hard costume to put together, it really comes down to just getting the right kind of chrome paint. Seems like there are quit a few different options out there, it's just a matter of figuring out how much money you are willing to spend on the paint job. If I were to do this I would need to save up for a second set of armor since I would still want to have my regular white armor for events where a flashy chrome trooper wouldn't be appropriate, and right now, my 'fun money' funds used for projects like this are currently depleted!
  15. Good to see that they have a background/story. I guess it might take someone actually making a full set of "radiation trooper" armor to see if it could get approved by the 501st and given it's own categorization.
  16. Looks awesome, congratulations!
  17. Ugh, my chrome-trooper dreams are quickly dying...
  18. Do you have a ballpark estimate on what it costs?
  19. So do you think you'd have to do the vacuum metalizing, or could you just us standard chrome spray paint on the armor? If so, another coat of some clear protective polyeurathane gloss could possibly keep the paint job from scratching off.
  20. Any ideas on what you would do for boots that match? Just get a grey boot or spray paint the boots with the chrome paint as well? I wonder what kind of maintenance would be required to keep the boots looking good. Also, is this chrome version of a stormtrooper based off of something in the expanded universe somewhere?
  21. Yeah, now that's what I'm talkin' about! Hmmm, I never thought about it looking similar to Threepio. That might get kind of annoying to be mistaken for him. I personally wouldn't have any gold coloring like this guy does.
  22. Apparently Lego is making Chrome stormtrooper figures. Got me thinking: has anyone made chrome stormtrooper armor in real life? Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not 'canon', but it would be so awesome to wear! Can you imagine how fantastic that would look in real life? Is there any kind of metallic, chrome spray paint that you could paint your white armor with, or would you have to make your armor out of a completely different material other than ABS or HIPS?
  23. Awesome, glad you got them!
  24. Well, if you really like them, I'd try contacting the Dr. Marten company (instead of a second party website) and see if you can directly order the size you need.
  25. Here is an online listing for the Doc Marten boots: --------- They say that they are unisex.
