Wow, 6'5" is tall, just make sure when you are in armor to not stand too close to Vader and dwarf him! It doesn't really matter whether you are 7' or 5' tall, when kids are looking at you, everyone is taller than them, they'll still be impressed!

YES!!! My feelings exactly! For years before I finally decided to get my armor, it was the voice in my head that said how geeky this hobby was that kept me from doing it. That voice is still in my head, but I'm having too much fun to pay it much heed any more. I never get offended when a neighbor sees me in armor and starts snickering, because I totally understand what they are thinking. But I'm so glad I finally decided to listen to the other voice in my head that is obsessed and just had to try this hobby out because being a giant, walking and talking action figure is so cool!

Yes, at one of my recent troops we were standing outside and I picked a spot so that I could see my reflection in a window! Our garrison just added new pics to their website, so I can finally drool over new pics of my armor!

Nice find, those look like they'll work great!

Maybe it's because I've only recently completed my armor, but I could seriously look at pictures of myself in my armor all day long! Maybe it's because doing so enables me to revel in the fact that I've finally completed my dream of owning and wearing white armor. Or it might be because I like seeing how my armor looks from several angles, or how it must look for other people to see me in armor. I've been to a handful of events in my armor lately, and I'm getting quite impatient for the photographers to post the pictures up on our garrisons website. I need more pics of me in armor to look at! Anyone else this crazy/self-absorbed as well?

Tube Stripe colors are confusing
bluehickey replied to bluehickey's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
What got me thinking about this was that we have been discussing Star Wars Weekends stormtrooper costumes. I was there last June in Orlando and all of the troopers there had dark grey/black tube stripes and it threw me for a loop. -
I know that people here who do runs of tube stripe decals offer a ton of different colors and shades to use. There's dark blue, light blue, grey, black etc. I'm just wondering if these are all based on the colors used throughout the different movies or if these variations have come about as this hobby has progressed.

Yeah, this mic just plain sucks! I have to practically be eating the thing for it to pick up my voice. Way too finicky for me. There's got to be a way to get rid of that mic and replace it with a better one. Can anyone suggest a mic that actually works well?

Caboots is still making trooper boots!
bluehickey replied to kiyotei's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Wow, those shoes are unbelievably cool! Too bad the soles aren't black. My personal opinion would be that putting different soles on them would kind of negate the whole point of Dr. Martens. Their whole thing is that their soles are so durable and comfortable (although really heavy to wear). They already cost over $100, plus the cost of getting them re-soled. Might just be easier to go the opposite boots and get some cheaper Chelsea/Jodpur boots that are brown or black and already come with the black soles and just dye them white. Much cheaper and more authentic, since that is how it was done in the movies. ---------- There would be advantages of not having to touch up the paint job if you did re-sole the Dr. Marten's though and that would be nice to not have to worry about. All in all, I'd say that they would be perfectly fine if they had black soles. -
I got the plastic piece off through sheer effort. I've tried the mic out and it seems like I have to put it very close to my mouth for it to pick up my voice and there is feedback frequently. Does the feedback get better when you put it in your helmet? Also, I'm using a battery that was loose that I found in the junk drawer and am wondering if that is why the mic isn't doing such a good job. Do fresh batteries make much of a difference?

I've got this speaker system and I'm trying to get the mic/mic cord out of that round piece of plastic that fits into the respirator mask. Can someone tell me how to do this? I can see that the cord was originally pushed through the hole and then the mic was attached, but I'm afraid that if I detach the mic, I won't be able to get it back on correctly so that it works. Right now my current plan of action is to attack the plastic piece until I can break it apart to get the cord out.

Improvements to my humble MRCE.

I second that, it's what kept it all in one piece for me as well! -

Master Replica ANH Helmet VS FX Helmet
bluehickey replied to Paxthar's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I do love my MRCE, but my one pet peeve is that in pictures taken with a flash, the coloring is a different shade of white than the rest of the armor (as seen in the above pic). But in person the colors match fine and look great! -
Nice. Gotta love it when you turn the ladies on!

Master Replica ANH Helmet VS FX Helmet
bluehickey replied to Paxthar's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
FX is oversized and will make you look like a bobblehead. MRCE is great and the proportions are much closer to what is seen in the movies. I've got fans in mine so far and plan to add speakers later. -

Got my 501st clearance, I am officially TK 3034! Here is a pic with my son at a screening of ROTJ, last week! -
Snaps and Straps Conversion

This is what I got and they worked wonderfully - very strong: ----- -
Yeah, most events you are requested to be at are free. Am I really the only one who has gotten a free t-shirt and water bottle? I got that on my first official troop in my armor, guess I'm spoiled and it's all downhill from here. <_<
-
Well, I'm still fairly new to all of this, but so far: free food, free t-shirts and water bottles.

Hey my 501st app is in with the photos, now I'm just waiting (and chatting in the meantime)!

Snaps directly through Undersuit?
bluehickey replied to TK-7980's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I'd stay away from doing anything with your armor that relied on/used the under suit. From my experience, that under armor gets rubbed and scratched very quickly and takes a beating very fast. It is a part of the costume that will need to get swapped out over time due to use, so it's best if it's kept independent of the rest of the armor. -

Yes, I do want to play in it, that's why I'm trooping a theatrical screening of Return of the Jedi on Friday night and then a diabetes walk on Saturday morning! -

Yeah, the instructions for my FX kit stated that the screws are a change to the standard snap type buttons that used to come with it. I much prefer these ones! -

What are the Vaderdave buttons? The FX kit I got came with plain screws for the ab buttons that you paint. I just chose to paint them blue and grey instead of all black.
