  1. For the thighs I did a test fit and then trimmed them. Since the thighs are large enough for you to fit your foot through, I would suggest gluing both sides. Some guys glue the front then use velcro on the back, like the calves, but I prefer the whole thing glued. As for install and support, I use a garter belt system and clips inside. Similar to the instructions, except using nylon and straps. Makes them adjustable, and keeps them from bouncing the way elastic does. I think Ruf Terrain (Steve) has a great visual of this on his web site, and I copies what he did for this part of my armor (Thanks Steve!!). ----- One you get them on, if they are trimmed to fit close to your legs, I do not think you will need to worry much about them moving, but the foam inserts would help if it is still an issue. Hope this helps,
  2. I guess it is my turn to chime in; I have been a Star Wars fan all my life, and I have now been to all four Celebrations. Living in Denver, the first one was easy, and the rest were just essential. I don't remember seeing too many TK's at the first Celebration, but they were all over for C II and C III. I remember thinking how cool that would be, but really had little idea of what it would take to get a set of armor and join up. I should also note there was never anything OTHER than a TK that I wanted to be, so I never even thought about it. The real "bug" bit me in December last year, when we were planning to take my two boys to see Santa on a Saturday morning. I had received a note from a co-worker letting me know a few of the 501st would be making an appearance at a local game store that same day, so I asked my two boys (who are huge SW fans like their dad), if they wanted to go see some StormTroopers; I mean, who else would you expect to be there??? Here are my boys in their own "Trooper" costumes!!! The boys were so excited, that they asked if they could wear these outfits to see Santa in, and we said yes, but they had to wear jeans to see Santa first, then could put on the white baseball pants. Anyway, as soon as we get to see Santa, both my boys are like "can we go see the StormTroopers now??" They did not even want to see Santa for 2 minutes. We go to the game store and the boys just about lose their minds, and we get lots of pictures taken. In fact, this was my families Christmas card photo for 2006: I also submitted a write-up describing this encounter, and was a runner up in the 501st encounter contest held at the end of last year. Here is a link, with a very familiar photo on it: 501st 10th Anniversary Right after this, I decided I was going to become a stormtrooper. If my boys were that excited (or as excited as I was), then there was no reason for me not to become a part of the best group of fans in the universe. So I bought my armor at the end of January; got my TK-ID at the end of February; and the rest, as they say, is history..... I now have the privilege of calling the guys in the picture my Garrison brothers!!! Thanks for resurrecting this thread, it has been a great read, and it is even more fun to share stories with all my fellow TK's.
  3. Yep, this is a trim job gone wrong. The small contoured caps for the earpieces are meant to cover the two screws that go into the ear cap, one for the front and one for the back of the bucket. The front and back "should" be very close (within about 1/4"). I agree that you could make this work, but do not assume this is how it normally should be. Thomas' gotarmor pick is a great example of how the FX should look, dimples and all, prior to the dome going on. You "MIGHT" be able to make it work, using the outside for the rear and the inside for the front. I realist the FX is made to go outside/outside, but this might help with the gap, and possibly give you an option to swap out the brow trim for something more accurate as well. Since the gap already exists, a quick tape job would at least let you see if it would work.
  4. I would contact the seller and ask them. You should have received at least 2, but usually 4 12-14" strips of ABS 3.5" wide. This is what is the "rest" of the belt. You can always convert it to a canvas, but I have found using the ABS strips is great for mounting rivets and other things inside the armor. If you are planning a snap system, this might be a good idea as well. I did a garter for my thigh pieces, and instead of using velcro, did black nylon riveted to an ABS strip on one end then an adjustable snap clip on the other end. Glue the rivet/ABS inside the thigh, and you are all set. Not nearly as complex as I have made it sound, but I have used those strips for a ton of things while working on my armor.
  5. Why am I surprised to see a man named Wyatt on a horse? Hope I am not being stereotypical, but it just fits!! Thanks for sharing, great photos.
  6. Very nice!!!
  7. Wyatt is a wise man. I did mine armor first, and saved the helmet for last. It helped me learn how to use the glue without fearing I used too much, but the rough fit idea is a very good one. It is very hard to find a good mix of the right amount of glue, not use too much, but not using too little. Keep us posted, and congrats, trooper!!!
  8. I agree the drop boxes seem a little "high" to me as well. They should be a tad lower so they move. I also noticed that his blaster has no counter or magazine to it. Maybe all they has was a right hand holster and mounted it for a reverse draw???
  9. Please see the updated poll with Mark added to the list. I ddi say it would be there, and I just simply forgot!!! Sorry Jarred!!
  10. If I remember correctly, it is a reference to either: 1) A new type of speeder or 2) A new type of small arms blaster There is, however, another option that I am not sure is 100% accurate. Check out this link which tries to assume they are referring to a droid. BT-16 defined I am not sure this is what the George had in mind, and since GL did not include any mention of a "BL-16" in his novel, I am not sure we will ever know for sure. Type 1 Trooper
  11. I have set this up so you can vote for more than one, but you can only vote for one title once. I will set this up to run until the 31st of August, so hopefully we can get most people a chance to vote. Obviously you all will be able to see the results as they come in, so I will simply do an update once the poll closes. Please tell all your TK pals to vote!!! I might try another blast email, but I think those that got the first email should already be watching for the poll. I tried to go back an make sure I did not forget any suggestions, and I did see one option that was not a part of my thread, but it is added here. Thanks to all of you who offered suggestions, and happy voting!!
  12. See post #1. I am updating it as we go, and all those choices will be in the poll that will be put in place next week. These titles are provided to TK's who have achieved a level of screen accuracy that are usually not seen in your off the shelf kit. Here is a link that goes over deployment specs: What is Deployment? FAQ's Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
  13. Joey, Great idea. The email just went out. Hopefully Comcast won't treat it as spam and send me a nasty gram. I will be looking for new views and posts soon.
  14. Here is an ebay link to one just like it (which is the same as my bag). -------- They are just a touch too small for an FX bucket, but my ANH Stunt fits great. I have this bag myself, and decked it out with my relevant patches.
  15. In the spirit of the original intention of the thread, Elite will stay as an option, as we had a suggestion and two people "agree" with it. At this time, we only have a few suggestions, so everyone better get it cranked up. Just so everyone is aware, I am planning to include "Mark" as a poll option, since it was what we had already, and there WILL NOT be an "other" option. Also, if we have a close race, majority wins even if it is by one vote. I was very disappointed in the 501st photo shoot complaints at C IV because the vote for AM vs. PM were close on the timing of the picture. I know not everyone will be OK with whatever option we choose here, but since we all get 1 voice (should we choose to use it), we should get the selection that appeals to the largest audience. Now, let's hear a few more great ideas!!!
  16. Elite has been added to the roster. Any other ideas? Thread closes Friday night, and then the poll will be open. Last chance to get your suggestions in guys!!! Thanks for reading this and the interest. I would love to see more members post their ideas, since we have a rather large collection of TK's, but not a large representation of posters. Feel free to chime in and offer up your ideas. Here's to many more ideas!!
  17. Me too, but do my votes count???
  18. DWB, Excellent job on the bucket. Saw your new designation on the 501st site, so let me be the first to welcome you to your newFISD Deployment status, Mark IV (or whatever that may be in the future). Glad you stuck with it, and I promise you will be glad you did. I know I appreciate ALL armor now that I went thru my process (over 80 posts on 1 thread, mind you!!). Well done trooper!! Ed or Paul, will you please update DWB's status when you have time, and I will work on his deployment photo (laptop willing)? Now, WHO'S NEXT??
  19. So then do we go all the way and create two for the ANH deployed trooper? Maybe your suggestion for the Stunt variation, and Death Star Infiltration Force, which is FISD ANH Deployed (Hero)? Just wondering.
  20. Kent, Armor looks great!! I am so glad you did not give up on this project. Now, on to business: There are a few things that need to be done before I can grant you deployment status: 1) You will need to get your TK designation from the 501st. Since we are a detachment of the 501st, we work under the trickle down effect, and need to see your status updated to reflect your TK approved in the 501st before I can deploy you. Can't deploy a trooper who is not a trooper (I assume from your reference to the PM from Matt that is what you are doing). 2) You need to determine if you are going the Hero or Stunt route. As stated in the thread, the Stunt has 8 teeth and flat green lenses, while the Hero has 6 teeth and smoke bubble lenses. Once we get this done, you should be good to go. Thanks,
  21. After much discussion, it appears obvious we need to change the term Mark, but we are not clear on what to change it to. That is what this thread is for. Post your suggestions in this thread, and I will list them in the main topic once a suggestion had two additional nods (in the form of a simple post like "I like White Commando Dragon also"). The naming conventions with at least two supporting posts will be included in a voting poll to follow at the end of the month. This thread will remain open until midnight, August 3rd, and at that time I will create a poll to vote for THE actual naming convention for the FISD. This thread is for nominations of names only!! Also keep in mind a name does not need 50 yes posts to be considered, just two additional after the first suggestion. The initial two are from Paul's thread, and the votes to change the name to Cohorts, as well as the multiple "yeas" for Deployed. If your suggestion also includes references for each specific film, please include that. We are not bound to make any type of reference to which film, however the standards are in place, so I will still ask (if it is not obvious), which standard you are working towards. Here is the running list of nominations Veteran (Tantive, Bespin, Endor) Deployed (ANH, ESB, ROTJ) FISD (XXX) Deployed (Tantive, Bespin, Endor) Elite (ANH, ESB, ROTJ) ***************************** Think about this and let's get this nailed down. Feel free to post multiple options if you have more than one good idea.
  22. Man, I don't know. Let me think about it and get back to you...... *(insert slight pause for sarcasm and theatrical tension)* Looks great. I appreciate the multiple pics that show all the elements. Mark IV Stunt/ ANH Deployment status approved. Ed, can you update Paul's profile for me? Also, I am working on getting deployment pics updated, but having technology issues. Will get your pic to Ed as soon as possible. Nice work Paul!!
  23. I read that!!!
  24. Well done trooper Dave. Now, your next assignment is to get that bucket finished and GET OUT AND TROOP!!!. I can say having it done was a huge step, but the first time I wore it on a Troop, the reasl reason I was doning it came out. MOVE IT TROOPER!!!!
