1. Yeh I used 12v at the beginning, with 9v batteries. 'Kinda' worked but output was rubbish compared to the 5v fans with 5v battery pack
2. They're really simple to make, mate I use a 5v cooling fan (£1) plus a USB cable, stripped at one end (£1) and then plugged into a USB powerbank (£10ish) Will run for 5 hours or more, depending on battery rating.
3. Exactly right - Understated simplicity Would also look amazing in brushed aluminium with black lettering, I reckon.
4. The detonator, I suppose you could argue that those particular troopers had chucked theirs toward some pesky ewoks.
5. At 6'1", there are at least a couple of vendors who can provide extended TK shin pieces to help close-up gaps in the armour
6. Experiment by looping the existing elastic under and over the shoulder bridge and get someone to tape it in position so you can try various lengths. You can also bring the connection to the shoulder bridges forward slightly, to fill the black gaps. Just play about with them until you have it perfect, then cut or alter to suit
7. Based on that, yep, just shorten the elastics so that the tops of shoulder bells are almost touching the shoulder straps.
8. Hi, can you provide photos of you kitted-up, showing the issue?
9. Awesome! I have one of these due for delivery any day now, so I'm after hints!
10. As the guys say, you WILL still sweat, even in colder weather. Keep the joints moving as much as possible on cold troops, or you can find they kinda seize-up due to lack of mobility in armour.
11. Oh wow, i'd already seen the 'normal' one, but the remix video is insane, with the added laser bolts etc... amazing work!
12. Yeh sorry, forgot to mention colour-matching. One white ABS sheet is invariably different to another

Most vendors will supply a small sample piece for a nominal fee (or free, if you're lucky )
13. Jason, you don't say where you are based but there are at least a couple of makers who supply extended shins - TM and RWA to name a couple, but they are here in the UK. Would probably close-up the gaps by about 3".
14. Excited for you Yep, research, research, research! Don't make an incision until you've OCD checked where you need to cut Loads of super-informative build threads on here - Become obsessed and look at them all! Bookmark the good ones, so you can find them quickly
15. Aaw, i'd love to see more threads like this

How about instead of 'first past the post', there is a deadline date, with the most 'likes', being the winner?

I'd offer up a prize myself but don't really have anything relevant
16. You could also use a belt round the waist, under the armour, with elastic loops for each thigh. Either attach to thighs with snaps or (as I have) use Stelmax 1985 to glue the elastics inside thigh fronts.
17. Yeh, register on ukgarrison.co.uk

What's your budget for the whole lot?
18. WD40 works well for removing old remnants of sticky tape etc. Spray it on, leave for 5 minutes, then work at it with a cloth.
19. If you're going to paint (and it's accurate to do so), the best results I had, were using Angelus leather paint. Preparation is key. Use acetone and wire wool to scrub as much of the top coat of boots off as possible. Then mask the heels and give at least 6 coats. (I used a sponge to apply). Sounds a lot but each coat takes less paint to cover.
The Angelus seems very hard wearing indeed, and is a nice satin finish.
20. Check on this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/15664-looking-for-advice-on-return-edges-anhesb/
21. It's the lip of armour that 'returns' back toward the body, giving the impression that the armour is much thicker than it actually is. if you look at an ANH screenshot of a stormtrooper's chest plate, for example, on the underside where the chest overlaps the abdomen, you see a good amount of return edge, making the armour look thick.
22. From the CRL: ( http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_anh_stunt ) Forearms For 501st approval: Forearms are fully closed. For level two certification (if applicable): For level three certification (if applicable): No return edge on the inside of the front of the forearm is allowed. Forearms must be constructed using the butt joint and cover strip method. Overlap construction is not allowed. So no velcro The only limb part you can leave 'open', are the shins.
