TK-Tom's Not So Excellent Adventure - ANH Stunt TK Build
kman replied to TK-Tom's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
Hmm. I used E6000 and Tandy Line 24 on Anovos, and didn't notice any warping. I'll have to take a closer look when I have time; perhaps there is a small amount that was unnoticed? -

Nicely done! Excellent tutorial site, too. -

Almost there... stay on target... Looking good, Tom! -
^^ Either that, or just use painters tape to secure the strip in place, so it can't drift when you clamp it. E6000 is slippery stuff! Definitely recommended to tape down EVERY part while you're gluing them.

Mine used $0.50 worth of lamp chain from Lowe's. (actually, that $0.50 bought me a foot of chain, so I have enough left to do at least 8 more E11s, LOL)

Looks like it comes with two bottles, the big one is about twice the size of the small one, which makes sense. Only issue is the stupid bottles are labeled according to weight, not volume, so there's no way to determine how many volumes are in each bottle without seeing how much weight a dose uses. Grr. Not a big deal either way, I suppose, I'm just curious if you're able to make the determination of how many doses would come from that 1 lb bottle (the bigger one, in the case of the 24oz package on Amazon)

For my HyperFirm D-ring installation, I drilled the hole as Joseph indicated above, then cut a small section of the D-Ring out. Use 2 pairs of pliers to bend the d-ring open (offset the two sides), which allows you to slide it into the new hole. Twist it back closed, and done.
-
Only 60ml so far? Two of the little 1 fl oz cups? How many "doses" do you get out of a given weight bottle? I see Amazon has a 24oz kit for a little under $30, but it's not clear how much you use for each dose you mix up, since it's a 2 part recipe.

Straight from the man himself.

Hey Jon, I'm curious how much XTC-3D it took to cover that beast with two coats? That stuff is on the expensive side...

You know, I saw those photos on FB as well, but I was on my phone at the time so they were a lot tinier. Now that I see the detailed shots larger, I really think that guy seriously glommed on a ton of loctite. I agree with Tony, for loctite (thread lock, is what we're talking about, not the ordinary superglue made by the same company), it only takes a tiny amount which should ONLY be on the screw threads, not poured all over the actual connection! As long as it's not touched the plastic (which it shouldn't, properly applied), I don't see why it would cause that much issue. Looking at the photos, it looks like there is blue Loctite smeared all over the place! All that said, I'll be using a small dab of E6000 to secure the nuts to the screws, on mine. Again, it only takes a dab.

Interesting. I've heard of these issues with the new TK boots in larger sizes (11 and up), but the smaller sizes always seemed fine. I did not trim anything off the bottom of my Anovos shins, but they fit over my size 10 TK Boots with no odd-looking pinching of the boot top. It's a close fit, but no problem, otherwise.

Hanger for your pack; the simplest solution!

If you live alone, you could hang it on the wall like the art that it is. If you have a live-in S.O., the odds of getting away with that go down drastically, LOL! -

I concur, give E6000 a shot first. If that doesn't work I might consider leather glue, actually. Any shoe repair place ought to have plenty, and if you have a reasonable one they'll probably glue it for a buck or two. -

Fingernails, and go slow. They should come off. A second pair of hands may come in handy, to hold the tube while you "claw" them off. It's good that they don't come off easily, for the most part. They'll go on easier the second time. -
Nice job! Of course, the real test of the coating will be how it holds up to plastic scraping across it when you have the armor on over it, but at least you're prepared with more coating for touch-ups. And cracked and scraped paint is screen-accurate!

^^ Exactly. Also, you might find lock nuts that are the right size at a hardware store, and just use those inside to thread the new screws into. The heads will not slip through the aluminum straps, so no issues there. I switched from the Anovos screws to the helmet ear screws, too. No issues using the holes that the Anovos screws made. -

Tom, check my build thread for discussion on this. As Tony said, not required, so you can wait if you want, but it's very easy since you literally just steal the helmet ear screws (which are perfect for the TD) and use them for the TD, then buy $1 worth of electrical box screws from any hardware store (photo of an actual package from Home Depot is in my thread) to replace the helmet screws you removed. And of course paint them (black for TD and white for helmet). As long as you can unscrew a screw, there's truly nothing complicated about this particular swap. Nice, easy accuracy mod... my favorite! -

They're all types of Stormtrooper armor, made by each vendor individually. Anovos has their molds, RT has their own molds, AM has their own molds, etc. These kits are made by individuals (other than Anovos). They do not usually have large detailed sales websites for liability reasons (and to help avoid copyright issues from Disney/Anovos). They are not sold retail, except for Anovos. You buy them directly from the person who makes them. That's why there aren't "other vendors" who can sell you RT-Mod or AM armor. Your best bet is to contact the two vendors (directly... using their email addresses which are in the link that's been posted for you several times) and ask them what their current pricelist is, and what the current waitlist is like, and then you'll have to wait. I wish I had better news for you, but there is literally no retail source of stormtrooper armor that carries stock in all possible sizes, ready to buy for anyone at any time. Everyone has to wait for the very few places that actually make the armor to ship it. This is even true of Anovos armor, which is certainly the largest producer by far, since they own the license from Disney. They only make one size, however, and they seem to do roughly one run per year. It took nearly a year from time I ordered to the time I received my Anovos armor, and this is the single largest producer on the planet that mass produces armor in China, not a single guy making armor from hand-sculpted molds on a vacuform machine in his garage. -
HOW TO: DIY USB Helmet Fans - No more 9v or AAs

Free stuff is awesome. That said, most troops are at least 2 hours, so you're definitely pushing the limits with those. When you build them into your bucket, you might want to take extra care that you can access them to swap them out easily. -

Why second thoughts on painting the helmet? I really don't see much downside to it. -
FWIW, I've recently read that Walt's newfound popularity has had the unfortunate side effect of increased wait times. I doubt he's anywhere near the wait times of some of the other vendors, but still, not quite as snappy as he used to be. Still, very nice armor, by all accounts.

If you're 6'4" and heavy, you'll probably want to look into RT-Mod or AM2.0. Those armors have made it to Centurion many times, and are specifically sculpted with larger troopers in mind. They're both listed on the vetted armorers list that Jinsei just linked to. Darth Aloha is a leader here on FISD and he's 6'5" and wears RT-Mod armor. I'm 6'3" and 97 kg, and I'm definitely right at the limit of what the Anovos armor can handle without major modifications. Anovos and RS Props are similarly sized, IIRC, since they're all pretty directly made from screen-used sources.
