  1. Wait... you just updated the power cylinders ONE DAY after I pulled down the files and finally printed a set for myself? Good thing this was just a rough draft test.
  2. That's the correct way, with the Anovos shins.
  3. And now, my helmet bag is something to be relatively pleased with, too.
  4. The thigh armor should be able to freely slide up and down your legs. If the trim you're contemplating prevents that, I'd hold off.
  5. Alan, how did you you get your lines so clean? I botched mine pretty badly. I definitely have a lot of edge cleanup to do. I wish I had taken the masking tape off a lot sooner, I was worried I'd need another coat and would have to tape it all over again, but waiting for the paint to fully dry just made it stick and lift off (partially/poorly) with the tape. Later, I started running a blade along the tape edge before lifting it, but the first few bits were already bad, and I missed cutting well enough in a couple of spots while lifting tape, and they came up poorly also. Of course, the box still looks fantastic from 20 feet away.
  6. I doubt the Husky box is available in the UK (and it would be a bear to wrestle with in close quarters or public transit), but I was pretty darned pleased how well that twin foam fit it. No trimming at all on the sides and bottom, which is nice because that gives it a seamless install there, so nothing small can be wedged into a corner or work it way between layers. (at least on the "U" from the front to the back) I wish I could take credit for the idea!
  7. I'm fairly sure those are the Funtasma boots, which are well known, and widely available on Amazon and elsewhere. Halloween boots from vinyl. Some have bad luck with them, and they don't last long at all. Some others have surprisingly good luck with them, and they last far longer than their low price would indicate. Also widely known for being approvable at Basic level only. Which is quite fine for most people who just want to troop.
  8. Ok, here you go! And thanks to VirtualCaitlin, the cheap twin Walmart bed pad worked great for the interior! At this point, I'm waiting for my 501st engraved box tag to cover the Husky logo, and some stickers for the side centers. (I'll add SoCal Garrison, and 501st stickers on one side, and add the FISD stickers to the opposite side, with the LA Squad sticker... or some combination thereof.) I also need to figure out the best way to clean up the lines that didn't come off as cleanly as I would have liked. But then I'll be ready to roll out in style! A few more pics in my build thread, along with my current packing scheme. Thanks again, VancouterTrooper, for the fantastic idea!
  9. A sidetrack from finalizing armor: You gotta have a good way to transport it! I took inspiration from VancouverTrooper's Husky box thread (read: blatantantly stole the paint scheme, albeit with his blessing!) and gave my 50 gal Husky box a serious makeover. Masking the top lid: Painted top lid: Masking everything below the lid: Top and front panel decals: Right side decals & stickers: Back panel decals: And there you have it! Oh, for the record, I used Semi-Gloss White Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x Ultra Cover Paint + Primer. I think I used about 3 cans, total. At this point, I'm waiting for my 501st engraved box tag, to cover the Husky logo, and awaiting a few stickers for the side center panels. (I'll add SoCal Garrison, and 501st stickers on one side, and add the FISD stickers to the side with the LA Squad sticker... or some combination thereof.) I also need to figure out the best way to clean up the lines that didn't come off as cleanly as I would have liked. But then I'll be ready to roll out in style! Once I see how it looks with the box plate on it, I may also paint the bottom of the little indentations to each side that center panel, to break it up a little more. With the exterior done for now, I started on the interior. VirtualCaitlin had the great idea to use foam from a cheap Walmart bed liner: Fits great side to side out of the box, just have to trim the ends off: ... which leaves just the two small sides bare, once it's glued down with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive: Fortunately the two cut-off sides work nicely to fill those bare sides, and ta-da, we're all nice and padded. If I ever need to commit a small child, I have the perfect padded cell! LOL For packing, this is the best combination I've come up with for packing, to date. Needless to say this is a work in progress. I've used some random sheets of foam (perhaps 1/4" thick?) I had laying around, scavenged from various packages I've received, between the layers. Bottom-most layer: Shoes on the right, laying down flat underneath the arms, in their white bags. Shins nested into thighs, and forearms nested into shins, leaving the biceps sitting out atop the shoes, with the shoulder caps nested over them. TD in the middle, as you see, and tool/repair kit at the end, along with my Imperial Handcuffs. The thin foam sheets go over this layer. Next layer: Ab and chest plate, connected. Add another layer of foam on top, and then: Next layer: Full back panel, all connected. Add another layer of foam, and then: Top layer: Helmet lies sideways on the left, in a helmet bag for protection. Belt lays across the other side, on the right, with the holster attached. E-11 Blaster, gloves, neck seal and underlayers all just go whereever they fit, on top. That's pretty much it! Although I'm trying to find a good inexpensive source for acrylic mirror that I can attach securely into the underside of the lid. Should be handy while suiting up. I forget who came up with that idea, but I like it.
  10. My straight up guess says no. But you could always PM Sly or Ukswrath and ask them to be sure, since they're the ones approving the higher levels here.
  11. Nice Hovis! Tagged in case I ever swap out my speaker tips...
  12. Old thread. But yes, I can easily reach up and turn my fans on and off. (separate switches, each side, one for each fan) I purposely chose simple toggle switches that I can flip with one finger near my ear. And yes my arm bends enough to reach my ear. Reaching up to power on the amp for the speaker system is a little trickier, because it's a wheel know slightly farther in, but still doable.
  13. Dang. That wasn't sarcasm or an attack. I figured we got lucky with sloppy propmaster work since they assumed it couldn't be seen on screen anyway. It's simple to grind off, so I assumed the OP had it like that on purpose, since it's already weathered/painted. Are you saying the intact writing is a mistake, while you attack me?
  14. Are you wearing the shins with boots, or without?
  15. I like the ANH E11 best, complete with Hengstler counter and power cylinders. Just looks cooler to me.
  16. I should probably update this built thread to note that today, I was approved for EIB. Expert Infantryman #591 at your service. Application thread here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/37582-tk-91423-requesting-anh-stunt-eib-status-anovos591/ Just a few tweaks to add to my to-do list, and eventually I'll get to Centurion...
  17. *I* want to look my best. Not quite an "accuracy junky" but not far from it. So expert feedback is always appreciated. Thanks again!
  18. I've been getting an error message when I click the "Expert Infantry" tab here on the FISD navigation bar. (Just to the right of "Costume Requirements"): http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/page/eib.html This is the error I get: "Rebels are attacking. Please stand by Error: 200" The page loads behind the error dialog, giving this info: "Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) Recipients Filter by: Garrison or Country Sort by: Unsorted" ...but there's no actual content below the column headings, so something is obviously wrong. It's possible the problem is on my end. I run the current Firefox on Win7 with several ad blockers, no script, and similar security plugins. But I thought I'd mention it in case it's not just me.
  19. Thanks, Tony! All definitely things I plan (and have planned) to address. Going for Centurion for sure. Not in a big rush to get there, but I definitely will. The eyes have been annoying me, it actually has to do with the internal lens mounting "pulling" slightly. A minor tweak, when I have time to tear down the helmet. I've noticed the ab offset as well, definitely on the to-do list. I have a separate garter for the thighs, so that's not the issue. Might just need to make a longer or shorter snap strap on one side or both. I'll take a closer look at the helmet ears. Looking at the photo, I hope I can even gap that up. There's not a lot to take off along the bottom to snug that up. Maybe I can trim some off in the back, though, to help it lay flatter? The back is a smoother fit as it is, looking at the rear helmet photo. For Centurion, yes, I definitely finally need to remove that one seam. Simple fix. And rebuilding the shoulder connections has been at the top of my list for a while anyway (which should address the uneven shoulder), since I have to tear out the Anovos shoulders and put in the white elastic for Centurion anyway. But for now, thank you! Happy to cross this one off my list.
  20. Get on Harbor Freight's mailing list and you'll get tons of coupons. (including 20% off anything coupons) Shipping might change the equation a bit, of course. I have several HFs nearby, so no need for shipping for me.
  21. ^^ That's a good workbench. I have one. (I will note that the drawers are kind of annoying... they stick and are far from smooth. Considering how little I paid, I'm not really complaining much. But don't expect 100% perfection.) I mostly use my dining room table, though. As long as it's not glass, should be fine for almost everything you'll need to do for armor building, just protect the surface. (And if it IS glass, you can still do pretty much everything except hammer snaps) I use one of these large cutting mats as a work surface, which has been fantastic and extremely helpful. The green side in particular provide high contrast to the build, so it's easy to see what you're doing. The lines are an unexpectedly handy bonus, as a line reference (and rough measurement reference!) for cuts. http://www.amazon.com/Alvin-Professional-Cutting-Green-Black/dp/B0015ASN5S
  22. I believe HFx makes an ESB version. Also THG Props.
