  1. Thanks Aaron! Just taking cues from the fine builders here on FISD.
  2. some finished pieces... the primer does a great job of bringing out some minor imperfections that will be filled and sanded. The upper grip slats will need to be made symmetrical and cleaned up a bit. Also putting a real sterling stock on this bad girl. I know it's a little heavier but I think it's worth it, and a great arm workout as well. Sanded down the breach d-ring holder to be more like the original of 1/32-1/64. Obviously that is too thin for a replica so I decided leave just under 1/16. This also tightened up the d-ring so it doesn't move up and down. The original breach d-ring has zero vertical play.
  3. Priming the finished parts... Tino's finish kit arrived today so I was able to complete the breach latch using the aluminum u bar inside the completion kit. Love this stuff. it's goes on so thin.
  4. I'm still going through with the real button using 10$ worth of parts from apex guns parts...
  5. if youre going to take advantage of this military offer. it expires today!!
  6. those are the official colors. membership or not. dig deep my brother all the answers are on this site you just need to look for them.
  7. cut a line between the clip and end tab to add the appearance of 2 separate pieces. I'm leaving the ragged edge, for a distressed look. Parts are painted with a light coat of primer to bring out the fine details before: after:
  8. Just noticed the ab/cod plate is a little low in some shots. you may need to raise that up? No big thing.
  9. saw that!! My son has school tomorrow am, so no midnight for this old guy. we will see it tomorrow in imax 3d. did you really buy a seat for your armor?
  10. looks good DLotz!! good luck my brother... let's see what the fashion police have to say... PS. The coin got to you...
  11. Why do you need to paint it khaki shade? are you trying to replicate an original worn helmet with base peeking through the white paint?
  12. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/18874-humbrol-or-testors-colors-for-helmet-ab-buttons/ Also... the ESB TK helmet requires stickers, excluding frown and ears, which are painted.
  13. The original idea was to create a working mag, with real button and spring, Once I realized that the clip wouldn't fit properly I had no choice but to glue or use rare earth magnets, and my extensive carving was in vain. I did trim the clip about 1/4 or so inch from the bottom. No regrets.
  14. I wish Disney had a Shades of Green resort. Very cool program. Disneyland Resort is saluting active and retired U.S. military personnel by offering Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets. You can visit both theme parks each day of your ticket! Check this out... ends soon https://disneyland.disney.go.com/offers-discounts/military-park-tickets/
  15. six days... nice. I will be down there that same time... Sunday-Tuesday. Sorry I don't have leads on discounted tickets. Really hard to come by now a days. I have season passes and they are going up next year as well. It's not cheap. Orange county's main attractions are... Disneyland & Downtown Disney (ESPN zone, house of blues, rain forest cafe, Mexican Food, jazz kitchen, shops, starbucks, live music etc), California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, movieland wax museum, south coast plaza shopping mall, Huntington Beach (surf city) to Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano Mission. You can purchase a Anaheim Rapid Transit (A.R.T) bus pass ($7 a day) to take you most places in the Anaheim area. Car recommended. Keep in mind.. Los Angeles and area is 30 miles away and very spread out. Traffic is a bear most of the time on the main interstate (5) to and from la., so going to Hollywood, Beverly hill, etc WILL be a all day trip. There are so many options... it just depends on what you want to do and time frame. Just don't get spontaneous and go to LA at 1:00pm in the afternoon unless you plan on getting back to Anaheim late. Again traffic is unpredictable and certain times of the day it's bumper to bumper. You should try to plan the day before and start early. You have lots of time to do most everything. PM me anytime for more info . hope this helps. disney/california adventure - Min 2 days knotts - 1 day Venice Beach, Los Angeles (LA Live), Santa Monica - 1 day Huntington beach and area beaches, coast driving - 1 day San Diego / Coronado (2 hour drive) - 1 day San Juan Capistrano Mission - 1/2 day Long Beach - Queen Mary & Aquarium - 1/2 day
  16. reminds me of a jurassic park t-rex or raptor. Daniel is right... the FO TK build is a whole different animal. I would start with the basics, literally, and get a classic TK. I think the biggest drawback is having to paint the armor, but the new design doesn't have cover strips to hide the seems. I think the seamless look is nice. What is the correct paint color to use when we do paint? Wait a minute, I'm waking from my daydream... FO TK's aren't available at all right now, 501st or not. I would guess it will be sometime before they are available to the general public. I'm on the FO TK 501st waiting list myself, so I hope it's sooner than later.
  17. Magazine Housing & Mag: In order to fit the magazine I had to trim very close. Careful not to carve through to the other side. I used 100 grit sand paper to finalize the inner edges but still came close to breaking through. At this point the clip still didn't fit into the opening and the sides were at or too thin as is, so I shaved off a little from the magazine for the final fit. Fits perfect!
  18. you can have mine. pm your address.
  19. still in need?
  20. Bummer. sorry to hear you are having troubles with the heat gun. I know it's 20/20 at this point but you need to move the heat gun around constantly, back and forth strokes, at 6-12 inches away, and slowing heat it up... once hot you can apply pressure with your hands to reform. hold until cool. My need to repeat. Can we see the old girl? Send it to me and I'll try to fix it for ya. You are correct, TG, they DON'T carry extra parts.
  21. May the force be with you on your metal replicating journey. Use a very tiny brush. 1/0 or 1 Originally, I WAS going to use stainless steel paint and experiment with a coarse steel wool pad (lightly scratch surface) and black and silver latex water based (fill in scratched surfaces and wipe off) to create a tarnished effect with varying shades of scratches?? Just a idea really.
  22. Figured it would be a lot easier to insert real metal then deal with masking and painting to look like real metal. It's a nice contrast to have some raw metal against all the black painted parts. IMA, this jewelry saw takes all the credit thought. Cuts through steel and aluminum with ease.
  23. Update: Pretty from a far but far from pretty.... The amount of filling/sanding necessary to make like the original is more time consuming then making one from scratch... I have the other side of the trigger guard I can use to create the center portion of the trigger assembly. To be continued...
  24. More adjustments using 320 grit sandpaper and steel wool
  25. Don't know?? I have season passes so no worries...
