  1. Yes, Here is the thread. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/36631-usb-helmet-fans-no-more-9v-or-aas/
  2. I had the same question/issue... I cut "v" shapes like you'll see in the picture above. Worked like a charm! Inside thighs were my second issue. You'll see drastic trimmings on those as well. I've come to realize there is no perfect model and when in doubt, check the "photo archives"
  3. Exactly... 1a will ramp the fans up and down but never get them to 100%
  4. yep. that's the one
  5. Yes! Absolutely. If a battery is used at a level beyond it's optimum ohms, It can catch fire. And if your battery gets hot turn off and dispose of immediately. That's why i opted for a larger battery with more power. The only time I feel a, "warm" temperature difference in the battery cover is when the power cell is being charged. Which is normal.
  6. Important: The minimum battery output for this fan configuration is 1.5a These smaller power banks are 1a and will not power the fans.
  7. The bracket is aluminum. Purchased (.04) sheet metal from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/252191409183?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  8. I'm only endorsing Anker and Aukey* because they use Panasonic & Sony batteries which are the best in the business. I'm an ex smoker/vaporer so I have extensive knowledge of reputable batteries. Sony and Panasonic are the best. Don't get sucked into the hype. Most power cells are single or daisy chained 18650 batteries used in vapor mods and high end flashlights. Rule of thumb... Buy name brand! Don't be penny wise pound foolish. Anker and aukey are reputable brands and use the batteries mentioned above. I will be the first to let you know if my 10000 Anker catches fire. My Anker battery is cool as a cucumber. * I read somewhere Aukey uses name brand batteries, but I can't find the article now. Still a reputable company.
  9. Have both buckets in this bag... I purchased when they were 22.00. The handle is padded, nice black fleece inside and the bottom has vulcanized rubber base that's water proof. The bag arrived without branding so I ironed two silver imperial patches on both sided. Looks great! http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Accessories-73797-MotoGear-Helmet/dp/B000RN04RO?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 Same bag, different brand - for half the price http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000012669-Motorcycle-Helmet-Bag/dp/B006JMKIFU/ref=pd_sbs_263_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=414RrjEwkoL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0Y1JSSC8T17NRCF3PVCT
  10. Here is the wire diagram I used. By using you must assume all risks. Make sure to solder all joints correctly and cover with shrink tubing. Electrical tape is OK to cover positive and negative connection prior to shrink tube. There are 3-4 wires in the usb. Use the red wire = 5 Volts (+) and black wire is the ground (-) only, ignore the other two wires. Image Disclaimer: The wires for the "y" splitters have been transposed by mistake (eg. red wire on top, black/bottom) Do not reverse polarity. Make sure to connect red to red and black to black.
  11. I like the power of the fans as is. I guess If you're running (3) 12v fans you may need to control the speed?
  12. The splitters are created and soldered using the 22 g wires and connectors. The noise is not that bad. No buzzing. I don't have a hearing device yet and can still hear people talking to me. I'm currently working on a velleman's super stereo ear.
  13. If you don't have enough room in your bucket to accommodate a battery you can try mounting it on your person (chest or back) and connect via an extension cord. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161793888929?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  14. I hear ya... Anker is a good brand. Can't go wrong. Aukey has a good reputation as well. It's the brandless generics you need to worry about.
  15. The x-liner is incredibly comfortable indeed. Adjustable, Removable and Washable. 2 different thicknesses and many different sizes. Quality USA product. worth every penny. Also wanted a liner I could use for multiple helmets if needed. http://www.gibson-barnes.com/prod-294519/Hgu55-Xliner.html
  16. A third exhaust fan was installed by adding an additional "Y" to the configuration above. The rear fan wires were folded onto itself, prior to shrink tubing - exposing the switch at the end. Each switch includes a ring nut, but I opted for the rubber nuts, available on the same website.
  17. Not really... I covered the wires and the back of the bracket with neoprene foam sheet. see here http://www.ebay.com/itm/301360445145?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The Anker 10000 may be overkill. In order to run the fan setup you'll need at least min 1.5amp output. Usually 5000mAh and up. I have a aukey 5000mAh that works great as well. http://www.amazon.com/Aukey-PB-N37-5000mAh-Ultra-Portable-Smartphones/dp/B015E363IK Personally I was looking for flat behind the head and the anker works best in my bucket.
  18. The first USB fan system on FISD. I was tired of having to change a battery mid troop, so I've decided to build my own 5v fan cooling system using a rechargeable usb power cell. I trooped for 4 hours with this setup and only used 1/4 of the battery. Flash back to my second troop where I burned through (3) 9v batteries in 3 hours. This will save money big time!! 19. These buttons are lower profile... this is what I used. Similar to "echo's" switches http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/judco-manufacturing-inc/40-2385-01/504PB-ND/161440
  20. Silver base and final fitting of small parts. The front sight will get painted separate from the rest of the gun. The sight, breach latch, and a few other details will get painted flat black. The sight arch will get painted faux rust and crackle paint
  21. The MR1505 fits under my chest armor - no problems
  22. These iphone apps sound promising, but the question at hand is which voice products are accurate and high quality... ROM/FX and iComm are the best currently as far as I've researched. Note: The TK chatter file available through the 501st features iComm bursts and clicks
