Costume malfunction, wonder how many times that helmet has done stunt work!
-
I think it would also look a treat if you have a few loose bits of the red cloth wraps hanging loose, as per some of the reference images Glen shared above. At the moment, we are waiting on a little fabric test to see if the wraps are chiffon or Shantung. From the samples of chiffon I have seen it looks to fray similarly to what we see on screen but is very see through when distressed. Overlapping tends to back that off, but it could be a slightly denser silk based fabric. I have had quite a discussion with a vendor who is still working on the best/closest match, but once we are most confident, then that will also play a part in the CRL.

New here, best TK supplier options in AU?
Sly11 replied to Croissant_Guard's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Hi Ben, Andrew from Redback Garrison, Currently there is no Auusie make of a full TK KIT that has lineage to the originals. CTPG (Chris the prop guy) in Victoria was working on TK armour, he has a helmet available that does have lineage to a helmet from the movies. I know him well and assisted him as much as possible with his 3D files to get the armour as close as possible. A true fan sculpts. He has also pulled a few kits in ABS and has been 501st approved in it. You can find him and his shop on Facebook. Several kits that do have that are all based in US, Canada and the UK. In many cases not just the helmet is cast from and original but also many parts of the armour. Thats pretty much as good as it gets for Stormtrooper armour and you can find these makers on our vetted sellers list. See below link. Also feel free to reach out to me directly Brisbane Based, always happy to help. w link -
New here, feeling overwhelmed
Sly11 replied to Elflord_Knight's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Hi Adam, welcome aboard, Your feeling of being overwhelmed is common with new members, but you are not alone on this journey. I too was blown away by the sheer volume of information these forums contain back when i joined in 2014, completely overwhelmed by it all, and not knowing where to start. Rest assured, none of us had ever assembled armour, many never sewn a stitch in their lives when we decided this is our new adventure, but we had support and an influx of information from members and the staff of this detachment that built the confidence to make it all work out. Research is the key to this hobby, but we are by your side to assist, your local unit will also have members there, possibly Imperial attaches of this detachment to also assist. I see you have been shown some excellent links to important parts of the forums, keep asking questions, you are now on a new and exciting learning curve and in time will become proficient in the lingo, the ability to assemble an armour kit and be darn proud of what you will achieve. Once again welcome aboard, the fun only gets better and better, that is a promise. -

Brand New Armor Not On The CRL. Need Assistance!
Sly11 replied to Fruit's topic in TK Pre-Approval Questions & Discussion
Hi Jacob. generally you need 4 references minimum for the potential of a CRL to be considered by the LMO team. Front, back left and right sides. Cartoon and animated series characters can be difficult to replicate the right look so i would also recommend you email the LMO office, let them know what you are interest in creating and even direct them to the post you have here. This character may come under the purview of Spec Ops detachment as well, so check in there in case they have any existing threads or discussion on this character. There does look to be a lot of customization required to pull this off, not a standard TK kit,so 3D printing would be the only way to bring this to life. All the parts look quite different to anything live action. -

Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster References TFA
Sly11 replied to gmrhodes13's topic in Weapons of the First Order
There were probably some rubber stunt blasters made in all the films. On close inspection this particular one has some average paint lines etc and the main piece could well be for that. We tend to run with the hero versions which are most commonly seen as per the bulk of references we have and also what we have been assisted with by one of the prop makers. -
The last line is my favorite

It is with great pleasure FISD presents Commander Pyre CRL officially approved and open. Congratulations to Dino (Sano) TK 75608 for his epic work bringing this character to life from the animated series Star Wars Resistance. This one was a long time in the making and we are excited to finally add this new costume to the detachment roster. We now stand at 21 CRL's https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Commander-pyre

Using UV resin to repair armour cracks.
Sly11 replied to Doggydoc's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
Nice repair trick Gerald, I've used other methods but not tried this before. -
Justin, as you are building to this CRL, it is not up to us to provide references although we do plenty of research for every CRL to assist. As has been mentioned, there is a base CRL for TFA FOTK, as this game version looks to basically be the same, the base CRL plus some differences the base CRL should be adhered to. In real world we know those things exist and you are building a real world costume based from a game which is quite obvious they design from the actual costume, plus embellishments created for the character. It is up to you to provide references that these things do not exist. This is the basic principle of our CRL's and yes the 501st high standards compared to other costuming clubs. Not created by me or any of the current staff, but simple rules that the detachment has continued to follow over the last 15 years. Why should we want to settle for less, when these are things most of the membership are very very proud of.
