ROTJ CRL Dilemma.....What should I do?
Daetrin replied to sskunky's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
If you come to Celebration, beers on me Mark. Election time is always hard to get stuff in as people are either winding things down or winding things up. I really appreciate your patience & politeness through the whole process. FYI, this change will also be announced in the next newsletter. -
No worries - my presumption was one of innocence/not knowing vs. anything malicious. Honestly, I should have followed up with a PM explaining as such, so I could do better next time too.
-
I would think so too.

ROTJ CRL Dilemma.....What should I do?
Daetrin replied to sskunky's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Just to close the loop, the CRL has been updated to allow rivets for EI/Centurion, so those that want to have them on their ROTJ can be cleared all the way up to Centurion. Mark - thanks for your patience on this, and I appreciate the civility and evidence based way you presented your case. Cheers, Paul -
Yeah, it was an XML list that I manually maintained every time someone went EI or Centurion, but then it was generated directly from the forum database, and now it's broken. It's one thing we'll get sorted this year after the forum upgrade.

Cricket's RS Stunt Build (for the Vertically Challenged)
Daetrin replied to Cricket's topic in ANH Build Threads
Oh, and I also didn't have the kidney snug against me - you'll need to move around after all. -
Cricket's RS Stunt Build (for the Vertically Challenged)
Daetrin replied to Cricket's topic in ANH Build Threads
One thought on the kidney/butt plate. For some troopers they just put armor on and it looks fine. For others including myself...eh... In order for my TE2 kit to look right on me, I had to put some strategic padding in the back/butt to get it to line up right. Just some light foam and some hot glue, and I was in business. It took about 4 tries, but once I had it dialed in, I looked great. Just something to think about. -
Tk/Uk armor is it a rippoff
Daetrin replied to white warrior's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
For the helmet, I guess we'll have to see how it pans out. The pix on the vendor's site look awful, but maybe it is how it's built. Even the picture that Nabil posted looks maybe too FX-ish these days. 7 years ago? No problem, but it will really stand out it seems. -
converting my ROTJ (CFO) to TKC build
Daetrin replied to PDXTimbers's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Wow! Man, I can't tell you how excited I am to see this. I'm the model for the TKC CRL and have been dying to see a good CFO direct build, rather than mine which is ATA modified to CRL standard. Yeah, the ANH helmet is ideal for this rig, but I think you can work with the ROTJ though it may be some additional work. Take good note of the ear details as well. Also, be real careful about how you paint the chest/back. They are super easy to not look right, and my suggestion is to use tape and post pictures to ensure it's looking top shelf before painting. Did I mention I'm excited to see this build? :) -
Hi Aaron, actually FISD rules prohibit posting items that are being sold for someone else. You can have the vendor register on the boards and post their own sales thread though.

It's common on all Legion CRLs to ignore what can't be seen. Yes, there are a few exceptions, but then we have the RP costume designation too, and that's like herpes - just won't go away. That said, I agree with Mathias on snaps. I've tried Velcro, single snaps, double snaps, quick release buckles, you name it. For myself I find his suggestion of one good quality snap with doubled-over or otherwise reinforced fabric where the snap goes to be the best option. Then again, I know guys who have used 100% Velcro for 10 years and still prefer it. So, YMMV.

The Last Jedi (TLJ) Stormtroopers - a first look
Daetrin replied to tkrestonva's topic in TLJ Stormtrooper
And I was just getting used to the TFA one. I wonder if it's made based on feedback somewhere, or just wanting to make "a change" to show passage of time? Or, is LFL just mucking with us like they do the clones (hey, let's create a new paint version to drive the 501st guys nuts!). -
I would presume weathering would be an option on the same CRL. Tim is driving this one - I'll let him chime in to the other points.

This is our bad. The photo doesn't really show where they go, and the text doesn't explain it either. You can see reference photos here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/18019-high-resolution-stormtrooper-commander-images-32-images/ For sure we should update the CRL to give approximate distances from top/bottom as well as edge.

That would likely be considered SpecOps I would think.

Yeah, that's kinda what I meant. -

So, kinda like going from ANH-ESB? If there are only two changes, we may opt for a single CRL with two options at L2/L3 so to speak. I guess we'll see how it comes out. -
HWT CRL Changes - Your input is requested
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Heavy Weapons Trooper
The allowance for non-orange pauldrons was to make it easier for people who also had already sandy's use something other than orange that they may have. IIRC there may have been a screen shot of a black one, but I could be wrong. It's been years since we put these together. As for the subject of lights and stuff - are there any references where it shows any? The original game IIRC didn't have any. -
The more designs you create, the more Tumms Joseph is downing daily.

HWT CRL Changes - Your input is requested
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Heavy Weapons Trooper
I think we should keep things basic for L1 and if you really want to tighten up, leave that for L2. Ab buttons are one good example, and it's pretty clear the TD should be optional. Else, what is the point of L2/L3 if we make things overly strict at L1? -
Rogue One Stormtrooper-ish Full Build
Daetrin replied to The5thHorseman's topic in Rogue One Build Threads
I'm blown away. I'll leave it for others to nitpick if they want, but I think it's amazing. I'll pay for one to take with me to Celebration and post photos with, kinda like the traveling trooper that BJ had over in IOC if you want. -
HWT CRL Changes - Your input is requested
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Heavy Weapons Trooper
Shawn - yes the 501st policy is that once you are cleared for a costume you are grandfathered forever as long as you do not have a break in service. Thus if you were approved in 2005 with out of the box FX armor, you could in theory still troop with that unaltered armor today, 11 years later. Any changes to the CRLs are forward looking only. -
OK, so I remember getting a ton of request to update the HWT CRL. Below are a compiled list of suggestions. Before I start working with the LMO, I want to ask for your thoughts and ideas. What do you like about the changes, what's wrong? What pictures need to be replaced (besides the model)? ------------ We have new updated photos for the main HWT CRL pics, which will be replacing those that are there now. The thing is with the one shown is this: At the time when they created the original CRL, there was really no one with a definitive pack, so Brian stepped forward. Recently in the Staff area they asked for suggestions to update the CRLs, and this is what I posted: There has been quite a bit of controversy over these CRLs as of late, which you may have noticed. I am not asking for radical changes by any means, just to clarify the items a bit. Below I have copied/pasted the original CRL areas, and my suggested changes are in red, and are obviously open to editing. Backpack For 501st approval: Backpack is styled after and closely matches the backpack seen in the Battlefront series as seen in photos and is a requirement for basic approval. No video monitors, extra greeblies. lights of any sort or attachments not seen in photos can be present at any level. Pauldron For 501st approval: A black, orange, or white neck ornament made of leather or a leather-like material, worn over the right shoulder. For level two certification (if applicable): Pauldron is of the padded "puffy" variety. Older style flat and off color pauldrons are incorrect. Pauldron must be orange in color Pauldron is lightly scuffed,(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD). Thermal Detonator For 501st approval: No Thermal Detonator is permitted at any level. The Thermal Detonator (a.k.a. O2 canister) attaches to the back of the belt. Detonator consists of a grey cylinder, between 2”(50mm) and 2.5" (64mm) in diameter, with white end caps on each end. Detonator includes a white control panel pad, with controls closest to the right end cap. Note: The Thermal Detonator is omitted from this costume when a pack is worn. For level two certification (if applicable): Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned with little to no gap between the clips and the end caps. Ammo Pouches For 501st approval: German MP-40 style ammo pouches. Pouches are black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material. White stitching must be covered with paint or a permanent black marker There are a minimum of two pouches required for basic approval. One pouch on the left shoulder and one on the right hip. Option:A third pouch worn on the opposite hip. Belt For 501st approval: Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt). The soft belt proper is made of canvas, or material with a canvas covering. Size is 2.75” (70 mm) to 3.25”(83 mm) wide and not wider than the plastic portion of the belt. The color is white to off-white. It is not allowable to have drop boxes for the 501st requirements. If the drop boxes are used, they dangle from the sides of the front plastic belt (ammo belt) via white straps and are aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt. Holsters are not permitted at any level. Drop boxes are not permitted at any level. For level two certification (if applicable): Belt face(TK ammo belt) is lightly scuffed,(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD). Canvas belt cannot contain holes from holster removal.

Apparently some changes were made to the chest as well. Can't wait to see side by side pix. http://www.gamesradar.com/star-wars-the-last-jedi-director-reveals-new-look-stormtroopers-heres-whats-changed/
