  1. Agreed. I figured that after getting all the straps, glue, under suit, etc. you're in for about $1000 anyway. This certainly is not a cheap costume, so why not spend the extra $200 or so...
  2. Thanks bro - got your status updated! You're input & comments have been a huge asset to this community - we're glad to have you here!
  3. I don't think you will. It's just a matter of preference. CMANavy is bigger than either of you and got a TE suit to look good on him. I'm sorry to hear you're going back to FX - I'd have thought RT for sure if you wanted ABS. But if you want easy, that's FX in a box.
  4. Actually Jay I see your TK hasn't been approved by the Legion. Technically until you have your TK costume designation, you can't be an FISD detachment member and thus are not eligible to be Elite. If you send this pix to your GML I'm sure he'll approve in seconds (it really is just checking a box on a form), and I can flip your bits here as well.
  5. Looks like you're set - should get official word soon. Nothing else to add that hasn't already been said
  6. Thanks so much Rob for providing wonderful kit that looks good, is high quality, and at a competitive price. I'm sure you'll not be lacking for RT fans worldwide!!
  7. They're like $5 shipped. Not sure how it gets cheaper/easier. I probably spend more $$ on gas just going to the store, or even one can of paint. :-p
  8. Even if you never offer them for sale, this is a cool project so keep us posted!
  9. Yeah. It's like people who paid $500 for an MR clone helmet and a year later they go for $200. Sucka! All the more reason why I don't buy licensed goods...
  10. All set bro - check out the new forums behind the blast doors you can now see!
  11. Is it possible they were formed in place and swapped out later because they didn't look real enough?
  12. You should see one of TK-4510's threads - his garage almost looked like this.
  13. I think it's great - just waiting on word from Scott M. Scott (1491) - dude those came out awesome - great work. My hat's off to both you troopers
  14. Agreed. It's all the luck of the dice. We can't always control when/where we get deployed or what happens when we do. But what matters is we all signed on that dotted line. Sorry to hear about your loss, but I'm in complete agreement that soldiering on is admirable and can serve to inspire others. Courage isn't the absence of fear, it's the ability to take action when you are afraid. Glad to see brothers here willing to help out - feel free to ask for help of any kind!
  15. Please don't put words in someone's mouth. I did not say he's OK and other recasters not. He's banned on both MEPD & FISD.
  16. I used snaps and never had them pop really. I did a rivet method as you describe but have had rivets rip out. Go figure :-p You can always use two snaps instead of one. Have this on my current rig and have found it much more robust.
  17. I think the search feature is very useful. CAP is Chris aka weiBes who recasted a TE suit (before TE sold the molds). He's cleaned them up a bit and some parts are his own (the belt at least). While an open recaster, I've heard nothing but positives regarding his quality - unlike most recast kit. He sold his old helmet molds to e-chu-ta aka General Veers aka VT. I think most of the wearers are in the Midwest garrison, or perhaps now the Great Lakes Garrison.
  18. All set brothers! Welcome to FISD & Full Access. The jacuzzi is now open.
  19. No. Quite simply because LFL essentially turns a blind eye to that part of our hobby as long as no one is really making any money, and as long as the 501st maintains high levels of charity work. Basically what you're asking is why is it not OK to recast TE (or GINO). The main reason is that it dissuades people who have actual props or access to them from selling anything made from them. This in turn means we have to settle for less than screen used props, and some people like having stuff derived from screen used props. It's all about having a healthy prop making ecosystem. Recasting really does kill the prop making community. No props, and we can't play dress up. That's really the bottom line.
  20. I worked to 10:30pm last night, after starting at 7:30am. Times be tough...at least I'm employed.
  21. In one context your right, in another you're not. To say we're all "recasters" for recasting a screen used helmet is equivalent to recasting a 100% sculpt is not equivalent. To say otherwise is dodging the moral certainty that you're copying someone else's work. Secondly if you don't like the price, don't buy it. Maybe you live in a low wage area like Arkansas where $20-$30k a year is average and you have plenty of free time. But someone else may live in a high cost area where grocery clerks make $14/hour and they have demands of family/kids. To them their time is worth much more, so to ask that they sell it cheaply is not a valid ask. What is really comes down to is since we are all dependent on fans making kit, if the recasting hurts the prime prop maker it's a bad thing. If you recast a licensed MRCE for your own use, probably no one cares as it doesn't hurt the prop making community.
  22. Still at work. My 50 hour weeks are now getting longer.
