Question regarding gluing thighs/shins/forearms
Daetrin replied to Plastic Fury's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
No, use the ABS glue instead of velcro. Most folks glue the fronts of the shins, thighs and forearms, and both sides of the biceps. Some glue the backs of the thighs as well (this is really preferred), and others glue both sides of the forearms. It's an individual choice really. On a perfectly dialed in suit, theoretically the only velcro anywhere would be the backs of the shins, and I supposed someone could figure out how to do that magnetically too. -
I just realized I've hit 6000 posts on this forum. Well, I guess being the first member helps and all, but I'm still amazed at times and am happy that I still enjoy the hobby and forum enough to want to remain active here. I also found out that if my group's leadership at work can't come to terms in our offsite meeting today we'll be asked to hole up in a hotel over the weekend until we iron things out. Personally, I'd like to think that if it can't be resolved in a few hours we have issues that won't be resolved over the weekend anyway. That, and I was looking forward to spending quality time with white plastic and good friends tomorrow, so I'm pretty incentified to end this meeting today if I can. Cheers to all the fantastic folks on FISD who keep this place hopping - from current and former staff to the newest guy showing off his latest build, and all the power members in between (you know who you are - you help troopers out every day!). I'll buy the first round! Bring on the Twi'leks!

Question regarding gluing thighs/shins/forearms
Daetrin replied to Plastic Fury's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
FWIW, I used ABS glue exclusively on my FX kit and it worked out just fine. After a few years of abuse there were a few places on the shins that I had to re-do, but that was about it. I think either way you'll be fine. -
I'll also agree that trimming up the shoulder bells and chest plate (see the chest plate mod - it's stickied in the armor mod section) would help the look a lot. Rivets can also be used for the little "ammo belt' that is affixed to your right shin. Realize that stairs and sitting are not necessarily easy to do in armor. The goal is to cover as much black as possible to look good, however this limits movement. Cutting plastic away helps with movement, but too much black showing around your legs decreases the visual appeal. Alas these suits were made to look good, not necessarily allow total freedom of movement. When trimming it's best to do a little, then wear it like that for some hours. Do this repeatedly. Some people get lucky and hit it off the bat, others (like myself) took months to really get our suits dialed in.

For a rivet gun you can use a manual one like this: http://www.acehardwaresuperstore.com/arrow...521.html?ref=42 For parts for armor - what exactly are you looking for?

Cool - it's always great to see different takes on how to put this together.

Oversized accurate helmet

Any updated pix on the 2.5? Most of the ones shown are the 2.0. Would love to see a new 3.0 some day too -
What Mike Harrison did for TE armor, you have done for TM. It's as perfect as it gets. Can we use these for the CRL or a visual reference for EIB?

Finally! TK-2155 at your service!

Looks great brother! We're forming a boarding party - please report to the hanger deck -
The real holy grail would be to have a remote for it, or one of John's ears with switches. Ideally you could toggle an ear switch or use a chin switch to move between silence, FRS, amplifier, and bluetooth signal (e.g. mp3 player or cell phone). A second toggle to feed your microphone continuously or use a PTT in a glove. And, have this 100% self contained in a helmet, with a BT from the PTT in the glove to your bucket. Yes, I dream...

Armor and air line travel?
Daetrin replied to Legions of Endor's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I ended up buying a hard shell suit case. It fits everything but my bucket and for that I have a helmet bag. Used it for two trips so far w/o issue, and I also use it for other trips as well. -
Agreed - I think it's one of the best side gaps I've ever seen on a larger trooper. Thighs came out really good too

Fascinating - amazing the amount of detail you're able to grab here!

Yup, the reality of the left handedness is entirely with the magazine. Right handed folks (which is most everyone) just learn to deal with it I'm afraid. Still, unless you had an DLT-19 in your hands, why would you holster the weapon anyway? ;-)

Oversized accurate helmet
Daetrin replied to SuperTrooper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
You've held far more helmets in you hands than have I, but I haven't felt this to be the case. Between my AP, my garrison mate's RT, my two TE2s and my garrison mate's TE2, the "largest" and the "smallest" have both been the TE2. It seems the variance in how they are assembled and trimmed has far more effect on the size. :: -
Oversized accurate helmet
Daetrin replied to SuperTrooper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ah, the only grail for taller troopers - an ANH lid that is the size of an FX. I believe there certainly is a market for them. I also think there is a huge untapped market for black ABS regular sized ANH lids. Most every TX out there has FX because they don't want to paint. Talk of scanning a TE/AP/TM and upsizing it that 5-10% has been kicked around for a long time - I've always wondered what prevented it from happening. As for the FX helmet's inaccuracies, they relate to: 1) Shape of the dome - too flat and Frankenstein 2) Overly large tubes 3) Overly large eyes Back when I started in 2005 no one told me about lids other than the FX. Once I found out, getting an AP was my first upgrade. -
He's only quoting truth. I think yours is perhaps the place where every noobie trooper starts, and even veterans end up. It's a cornerstone, a tradition if you will. to Jez

Would these gloves work?
Daetrin replied to Torisempai's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
No fooling. I want to look as good as a UKG trooper too. Will be on my upgrade list for next month (all my spare cash went to the UK this month). -
It seems silly to me not to put in public what you can get readily in PM. If the vendor doesn't want their *list* price published it's also silly as everyone will find out anyway. If they want to give someone a special, then we should respect that decision as individuals.

Actually I can manually adjust anyone's post count, and was thinking at one point of running a script that would look for and delete all the "me too" posts, or posts of less than x number of characters. But in the end it's all for naught. People can see the quality of the posts and who is really contributing. What is it that BraksBudddy says? "You are not your hyperfirm. You are not your TE armor. You are not your frigging post count. " or some such.

I knew that of the custom, but not of the other grab. These are the only pix I could find, and w/o having a game for a reference I wasn't sure if the custom was just his imagination or made after the game itself. Perhaps I should head over to your place so I can see these in person? I'm pretty caught off guard on the lack of any references out there - you'd think posting screen grabs would be trivial - so as a start I used whatever was out there for a base, knowing that it would have to be refined as more information surfaces.

Proposed CRL for Felucian Stormtrooper Officer - Obsolete
Daetrin replied to TK-1422's topic in Stormtrooper Commander
I know one person who has been approved with this costume - at least you can see it in their profile pix. I'm abashed that me and my staff have not finalized a CRL submission from our POV. Actually I'm not sure how best to codify the paint, and am open to suggestions. It seems to me that the blue should match whatever is called out for the 501st clonetroopers - that at least seems the intent. I'll try to play hookie from work to get some time to write this up better than what we have it. In the meantime, if anyone wants to send me a figure, PS2 game, etc. and I can get some first hand experience with this costume... Or at least some good detail pix.
