  1. Am watching it now, about 30 minutes in to it so far. I'm actually happy with it so far - better than I'd been led to expect. :)
  2. Woo - another double! You are only the second person do pull this off - congrats!
  3. Opened back up - vote away
  4. Opened back up - vote away
  5. Down to the Final 5!
  6. I had that done. From my point of view it was pretty confusing and there was repetition in the polls. For instance stunt and hero refer to anh helmets and yet on both of these there were questions regarding esb, etc. that didn't correlate. I have nothing against people making polls, but do ask that they be targeted. And before people create four polls with multiple questions on the same day, I'd think it good courtesy to ask the admin staff about it first. I'm all for free speach but it was pretty disjointed. I'm working with Thomas to sort this out via email. They're great questions but should be better organized to yield useful data.
  7. Wow - 2" instead of 2.5" - is that just from judgiing scale or also in coversation with someone who has the original? We can certianly change our standards to allow 2" - I just want to see where that comes from. I think 2.5" may have been a visual guess looking at screen shots. Awesome news on the details gents
  8. How I understood it from LFL was that the 501st may make costumes for their own personal use in return for the fact that we make no profit on our activities and do good deeds, etc.. It was not explicitly stated that everyone had to make their own costume from scratch - so there is some room for interpretation there and this is probably intentional as anyone with a legal background could explain. For legality : LFL and the courts dictate what is legal vs. illegal in a pure sense with their copyrights, such as they have and are willing to assert (one can hold IP but not assert it, these are usually known as brokers). That said, the prop and costuming communities (not just SW, but others too) do seem to decide amongst themselves what is appropriate vs. inappropriate behavior and act accordingly regardless of any true legal standing. Perhaps it's best to use those terms, else one can get caught up "prior art" and it's definition, and all other kinds of fancy legalese that costs $500-$1000/hour if you would like it interpreted for you (the cost of an IP attorney). So what is acceptable/unacceptable depends on the community in question and how it decides to police itself, for lack of a better term.
  9. Hey Vern - while it's attractive to kill two birds with one application, it's not a good practice as far as the det is concerned as each application should be made in toto and stand on it's own. As such I've renamed this to be your ESB thread as that's the majority of your pix and created an ANH application thread for you. This will make it easier on both the staff and any other applicants moving forward.
  10. Looks great to me - you have a lot of little details covered too. Terrell should have the final word - let's see what he says. These pix are a marked improvement over the last batch
  11. Excellent - moved to TIPS & renamed title.
  12. Like this?
  13. A second helmet is a great idea as it: 1) allows you to do variations of a costume, e.g. ANH Stunt vs. ANH Hero vs. ESB 2) it ensures you always have a troopable bucket in case you're ever modifying your primary one 3) As long as your doing one, doing a second at the same time is easier than months later (varies by person)
  14. Gentlemen - this has gone too far. Juan was simply the messenger on this and does not deserve to be shot and run down. Juan - as DL please accept my apologies. I've deleted the offending threads. This is an information thread - if you have information then share it but keep the personal attacks to yourself. If you believe the item is recast then create a different thread in the Garbage Compactor.
  15. All, After several conversations with Tony it's clear that "life" has asked more of him of late and the time that he can devote to FISD as a staff member is not what it once was. As such he is stepping down as Provost Marshall. I've decided to keep Tony on as Provost Marshall Emeritus for now in the hopes that he remains an active part of our community here. I'm greatly pleased to announce that Brian (TKRestonVA) has accepted the invitation to join our staff as the new Provost Marshall. He's firmly established himself as a costumer, active FISD member and also an all around great guy. Please join me in welcoming him to FISD staff. These changes are effective immediately. Just remember Brian - bad posts are *moved* to the trash/archives, not outright deleted (yes, I've been guilty of this myself). So - best wishes to Tony and a hearty congratulations to Brian! Paul
  16. clonetroopers.net Since all clone armor is fan made recasting was a big issue. They had a special section where new armor was presented and cleared by the det armor chief before being allowed to sell, and this included pictures of the molds usually including WIP (work in progress). Considering how few true new sculpts come out I'd like to presume we give people the benefit of the doubt when possible lest we dissuade people from the attempt. However given how much recasting goes on, it's not unreasonable to ask questions if there is sufficient evidence to cast doubt. Above all what we really strive for is transparancy so that people can make informed decisions.
  17. Indeed - a fair point and one that is followed on CTN as well, so it's within reason. Not sure how open it needs to be, but since they are 501st it could at least be done in the 501st only area.
  18. I'd suggest creating a new one for that topic. Also, you'll have to provide evidence if you make an accusation. This is not like the old CTN. :-p Also, please stick to the facts - as noted let's not get in to a debate on recasting in general this time - there've been enough threads on that already this year.
  19. http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=6107&hl= Juan - care to cross post from the MEPD boards? Pleeze
  20. I heard - not 100% sure - that he just softens a helmet he has in the oven, reshapes it and calls it something new. That's where new molds come from. Would be great to get independent confirmation.
  21. Congrats! You are now imortalized on the EIB page, # 94
  22. That's insane - the standard I've been hearing is 108 hours from start to finish from a clone. You have some mad skills there. As for 2.5" vs. 2.0", this can be revisited. 2.5" was the best info we had at the time - any supporting evidence for 2" would be great to have presented.
