Because I'm 6'0" and a lot of leg. They are pretty short as is and need shimming to fit me. I guess if I played with a heat gun I could get the right not to slide around. Again - it can be done and people do it all the time, but I found it easier just to get parts designed for a tall guy. In fairness for me it's just the legs - the rest if the kit fits just fine.

This guy is plane nuts and I'm wondering if anyone has a better pucker video.
-
I will say it's more to do with how the armor if fitted then the kit itself. PandaTrooper and Dorsk88 both took AM & FX respectively and made it fit them very well. I've also seen TE armor on someone 6'4" 245lbs. Some kits lend themselves to body types better than others, for instance I just can't get TE2 shins to work for me and so tend to replace them with a different maker (RT in this case).

Pandatrooper's AM build thread[*AM]

I've seen this armor in person now and it's amazing. One of the best builds I've ever seen and he's meticulously ensured it fits him perfectly. -
RT-Mod helmet to go with AM armor?
Daetrin replied to Nicho Pace's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I talked to RT over the weekend and my info is out-dated. RT continues to tweak his molds and added some asymmetry to the helmets now. I'm going to get a complete run down on the latest skinny and will post. -
TK-5569 Requesting EIB Status[116][RT]
Daetrin replied to SolderMaster's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Hey Frank - any pix of the latest? I heard he re-jiggered the molds to add some asymmetry to them. Down a Stevens Point brew for me (I'm a UW Alum), and yay Badgers! -
You should try logging on to each site directly, not via the portal.

You could also try the RPF (replica prop forums).

Hey Chris, I can understand that at first blush it may seem like he's making money off of what you can get for free, but as Mike points out considering that he's already given it away for free and it's still there, what he's offering is a service of putting it together in a manual, which does have a cost, for those who want a manual. It's not unreasonable for him to expect to at least cover his costs on that. And, that 2000 post count isn't from lots of "me too" and "good job" posts - he's been a solid contributor of tutorials here for a very long time, and for that reason was awarded an FISD service medal for his contributions to the forum. I'd suggest looking over that body of work and the effort involved in the manual again to see if it really is 'gouging', as it does not appear to be the case given the evidence. Paul

Advice on attaching shoulder straps to chest/back
Daetrin replied to FEZ's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I glued mine on. I got tired of them popping off with velcro - such a pain. Really, since you're only gluing the fronts there is no stress on them. Terry's use of dual glue is a good one, and having the elastic strap across the top is a very nice extra touch. -
To clear the air - Gino got banned for *one* reason, and it had nothing to do with his sales. He got banned for constantly baiting and engaging in flame wars even when being warned repeatedly not to. This is in contrast to TE who got banned both for constantly baiting/flaming *and* not delivering on his sales as promised.

You can also ask RT, who makes very nice ABS suits too...

TK4055 Requesting EIB... (ANH Stunt)[119][AM]
Daetrin replied to blueboxer's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Congrats! You'll also notice I updated your group membership - welcome to the 501st only jacuzzi -
True enough - and replace the hand plates. However the side cuts on that chest are already deep. It would be probably cheaper just to get a new chest/back/shoulder straps from your favorite maker, as I'm afraid if you take the sides off that chest you'll expose way too much black. So yeah, again it can be done but your investment in terms of $$ will be (crystal ball) probably $150 vs. $75, and a full day vs. an afternoon. I guess it's up to him - which is more important - upgrading on the cheap or going ANH.

*Requirements* for membership are entirely up to the GML at their discretion for canon costumes. You'll also note that in the above picture the boots are not 501st acceptable either. However as we've been told time and again the CRL's are for *reference* only and is just one of many tools the GML uses in their work. Thus some garrisons are very strict to the CRL, others not much at all. While this costume was cleared in their garrison, I can say that it wouldn't have been in mine for instance. Historically the TK costume has not been required to be movie specific, but as other costumes/detachments are insisting that their costumes be this way, there is no reason why FISD should lag behind. Thus you'll note in our CRLs that they are indeed movie specific as well. I'm not trying to take anything away form the above member - they did a superb job on a difficult suit. However with perhaps 30 minutes of work (decals, frown paint) that helmet could have been done in ROTJ. And, if one was careful I bet they could flip the ab plate button too, or cut and replace with any other makers ab plate. Heck, back in the day cutting the ab plate was the only way to convert an FX to TD configuration. With the advent of tkboots.com - he could easily go ROTJ EIB for probably $75 and an afternoon of work.
-
He could go the ANH route - nothing is impossible if you have the time and inclination. However as has been pointed out the path of least resistance is to just go ROTJ with it. I'd agree to sell the MRCE and just get an alternate helmet which he can get for about selling price of his MRCE (both ATA & AP offer lids at $120 or so). A really well done ROTJ can look excellent (take a look at TK-J's EIB thread) so there is no reason to go ANH with that suit, unless he *really* prefers ANH (again, in which case he's best off just selling the Rubies and starting over).

leave it to Pablo to have the perfectly dialed in rig

TK0812 Requesting ANH EIB[118] [CAP / ATA]
Daetrin replied to kwdesigns's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
If you don't get EIB, I'm turning in my armor. I can't think if a detail you didn't nail. -
I got mine from barstormers in the UK for like $50-$60 - you shouldn't have to pay more than that.

Thanks all! My wife made fresh, 100% from scratch, cranberry/orange scones for breakfast which were to die for (I did the rest, but it was a fair trade). Better than the best restaurant I've ever been to. Zoo with the kids, best pizza over daddy/daughter lunch, then for dinner...teamwork! I made mashed potatoes, fresh corn on the cob, steamed carrots. My wife cooked up the most excellent beef and bison steaks you've seen, washed down with a couple glasse of good wine. And...I bought my plane ticket to C5. Can it get better?

MY STEALTH ARMOR IS FINISHED!
Daetrin replied to Blastmaster's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It's these kinds of posts that make me wish this costume where covered here. Very nice -
As a Thank You for all of Mark's hard work and contributions to FISD, Nathan (Runnriottt) has graciously created this memorial of appreciation on behalf of the detachment. ------------- Being the first ESB EIB, Detachment Armorer, promoting canvas belts, helping out new troopers - Mark has time and again given of himself to help everyone in our hobby be better. Please join me in saluting Mark for all he's done, and raising a glass in cheers.

On the plus boots should be easy. They're available everywhere and already come black.
