  1. The tabletop sander is definitely a helpful tool.
  2. I plan on buying one within the next week. The price point is good and I already got the standard helmet cheap on Amazon. The wait doesn't bother me, I'll be lucky with the amount of free time I have if I can get my Anovos TK done before then.
  3. I've always felt the best way to explain it away is we use the term recasting as our community sees it as you would use plagiarism as in passing off another's work as your own.
  4. Lexan or RC car body scissors are highly recommended, especially the curved ones are a life/sanity saver.
  5. Using plastic from different builders is always a gamble, but since Anovos used custom plastic its even potentially worse. Please let us know how it matches and make sure to take pictures in different lighting.
  6. Its not unusual. My last order from them took a month from shipment to arrival.
  7. Considering the guy trash talks the 501st every single chance he gets on the RPF, I don't think I need to tell you where he can stick his helmets. I think its a load of BS.
  8. they have them at disneyland as well. You can also get them at the disney "malls" near both parks (so you don't have to pay to enter the park).
  9. How is this acceptable for clearance? Novatroopers are from Star Wars Galaxies and Star Wars Galaxies isn't canon.
  10. nice use of braun shaver cleaning cartridges! lol
  11. YES very very important to remember. aka QFE.
  12. Especially considering he has the one film accurate thing absolutely no one else can have, himself. lol
  13. And remember, both are just bs extrapolations for costume design choices (pauldrons) and costume variations (ear marks) so do what ever makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. If you want to wear a pauldron, wear a pauldron just don't wear it in your official legion pictures or at canon events. Other than that, if anybody gives you static for it, tell em sit on it. Do what makes you happy, as long as its within the rules.
  14. definitely a great build with some great ideas!
  15. The 501st doesn't endorse any makers themselves (technically we can't but that's a long complex discussion that will make your head spin), but that being said you can find info on good reliable makers here by reading around on what members suggest. Typically your best choices range from FX, AP, TE2, ATA, RTMOD, and TM or Troopermaster. Anything else is very likely recast and may not be the best quality armor you can get and sometimes for even more money than the original armor its taken from for less quality. That's why we always suggest doing your homework and read up on the various armors as they all have different pros and cons to help make a decision on what armor is best for you.
  16. I really don't see much of a difference between what we do and historical reenactment OTHER than the fact that one is based on real life. TBH I would think someone dressed as a fantasy character would be less threatening than someone dressed up as a real life Nazi or equivalent waving a gun around.
  17. considering, emergency force shields is how they explain away x-wing pilot helmets having no faceplate, and the pilots not dying instantly if they go EV, that's pretty much what I've always chalked it up to.
  18. You might want to consider trimming down the length of your thighs (from the top) and that would help with your knee plate getting caught.
  19. There's also the ANHv2.5 helmet. I'm currently working on one myself. Its the second biggest helmet, but its more accurate in proportions than the FX. The only thing that sucks is its rotocast so you'll have to paint it. you can see pics in my WIP thread. ---------
  20. Finally got some time to work on the helmet some. I've cut out the eyes, cut out some of the teeth and trimmed down the flash so I can finally stick my head in. It is definitely roomy like an FX helmet. Probably won't have time to work on it again for a few weeks at least, so don't expect much updates for a while. New pictures are at the end. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26580949@N06/...57619164888264/
  21. Depending on the person's build and body type (IE bigger fellows), FX armor can be a better solution than screen accurate armor. This is why everyone should do their research and find out the pros and cons of each type of armor and decide for themselves what they feel is best for them. You will find a large portion of the legion is very happy and content with their FX armor.
  22. I'll be there but I'm not taking my armor on the plane. I thought long and hard about it but I don't wish to risk it and I'm not forking over the money to ship it back and forth.
  23. Ehh they've been making star wars costumes since long before most people knew the 501st existed. They make these crappy supreme models for other big franchises too. You should see the craptastic Batman and Superman Supremes. You think these are bad, imagine this quality in formed muscles. BLECK.
  24. youre using the same brand primer and paints right?
