TK undersuit
TK4999 replied to Mandalorian_soldier's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
John, any form of lycra/spandex material works well for undergarments. And two pieces is definitely the way to go, since on longer troops you might need to visit a toilet. The only thing to be careful of is the logos on the material. For instance, on the shirt, the logo around the neck might be visible above the neckline of the chest armor, so you would need to fold it under your neck seal so it wouldn't show. Or you might be able to use a permanent black marker to color it black. There is also a trooper on these boards (Wyatt) who sells a top that has a neck seal integrated into the garment, but he has closed ordering for now. -
Yes they do smell, which is a commonly reported problem. I just kept mine outside for a while to let them "air out" a bit so it would not be so strong. I also found out that after five days of all-day trooping at C-IV they began taking on a different sort of smell... Also, for long troops or parades, I highly recommend inserts for the soles, especially the gel kind. They make a HUGE difference in comfort.

The other thing you can do before you take the knife to the thighs is to try overlapping them at the back and use industrial strength velcro to hold it together (overlapped) when you troop. Then you can get a good feel for how tight they will be once you trim them. One thing I found at C-IV and CE is that my thighs do "pump up" when I am trooping in armor days at a time, so what feels comfortable on the first day definitely is not comfortable on the third or fourth day. This may not be an issue for you, since most troops are for a couple of hours. But just something else to think about before you trim and glue the backside. (As if you are looking for something more to think about.)

Johnny, Yes you can be tall and be a Stormtrooper! I am 6'6" (which is almost 2 meters!) and I enjoy wearing the white armor. I too have an FX kit, but, alas, I cannot fit my head into an AP bucket. Don't let anyone tell you that you are "too tall to be a Stormtrooper." Armor up, stand tall, and stand proud!

Ed, thanks for posting. When I changed my stripes, I noticed that there were 13 on the blue decals and only 12 on the FX decals. I am not sure of the siginificance of the number of stripes, but they do look good!

Yup. And I usually have a lot of moisture in my helmet during a troop... is there a way to effectively seal those things?
-
Yes that's the one. I must admit I am a bit sceptical, but it did seem like it might be worth the wait...

Hmmm... an interesting idea. I have actually been waiting to see if that device described in Butah Fett's thread ever materializes, cuz that sounds like it might be better than the rom-fx (or at least easier to set up)... so I am not willing to rush into anything just yet...
-
Yeah! What he said! Hope you can keep yourself in one piece and return safely!

Hello Laurence, The thread is here: Interest Thread - FISD Patch revision 1 Post up your interest there. Thanks!

My guess is that the Canadian garrison will likely get some trooping activities organized. You will need to pay the registration fee and can attend like any other fan. But usually the trooping is more fun when you join a bunch of others with a specific activity in mind. There is currently a thread on the main 501st boards, which is where I would suspect the specifics will get posted. I have not seen anything specific yet, but it looks like there will be a good contingent of troopers in attendance.

Well, that means we need to find another chance to troop together!

That "thumbs-up" trooper... that would be me...

New name for Deployement
TK4999 replied to Scott M.'s topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
While I originally liked the ANH/ESB/ROTJ Deployed nomenclature, this variant is better because it highlights the detachment (FISD) in the title. This draws attention to and emphasizes our detachment. We still need to create more awareness within the Legion, so "branding" the title is a good idea. The "deployed" term is consistent with our dirty brothers, and I don't think we need to differentiate ourselves by attempting to use a different word (like "elite" or "veteran"). The Tantive/Bespin/Endor descriptor uses a location/assignment, which is better than using a movie title to differentiate the costume variant. So I am now ready to vote. -
What does the armor really do?
TK4999 replied to Laspector's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
What do you mean? I don't have a problem with that! (he says in a squeaky soprano-like voice...) -
I did a quick post of thanks on the 501st boards. Several European garrisons contributed in a BIG way (especially those Belgian guys). I did not have a cam, since I was a full time volunteer and in armor most of the time. The UK garrison is very strict about remaining in character (esp. buckets on ALL the time you are in public), so walking around with a camera wouldn't have worked. My biggest thrill was running into Albin during my lunch break and joining him and his wife. The best trooping experience was participating in the sound stage production of the Tantive IV boarding scene from A New Hope. Hopefully there will be pics of that posted soon. It was absolutely mind-blowing to be on that set with the cameras rolling. (And I did NOT bump my head while walking through the door!) 30 years ago, as I was watching the opening scenes of ANH for the first time, I never would have guessed in a million years that some day I would be one of those Stormtroopers boarding the Tantive IV! Talk about a dream come true! WOW!!! Once I get my hands on the FISD group photo, I will pass that along. Our banner was proudly displayed in London!

I saw this setup on John at CE. It is AWESOME! (He now also has his own FISD inaugural patch too!) -

I am kind of leaning that way myself... -
No, you are not missing anything. In fact, I have both the new decals and the new hovis. But the helmet is "naked" inside (i.e. no fans or voice amp/burst), and I have been reluctant to fix it up if I am just going to ditch it. So I am saving the hovis and the decals for a possible new helmet. Maybe I just ought to make a cast of my head and then send it around to various helmet guys to see what might fit... lol P.S. That is one reason Wyatt's internals design is so interesting... cuz I could deploy it inside my FX and then just move it to another helmet if I can ever get that sorted out.
-
Paul, thanks for the tip on the weapons. I guess Stomper's latest post may push me in that direction. But the helmet thing is in another thread (i.e. head size)... the only non-FX helmet I have ever tried on is an AP, but only got it down as far as one inch ABOVE my eyebrows... So until I can find another bucket to try on (i.e. RT or ANHV2), I will probably not make a move to Mark (or whatever) status. I am reluctant to spend a lot of time, expense, and effort on my FX until I KNOW there are no alternatives. I was hoping to find more helmets to try on at C-IV, but it didn't happen.

Hey Paul, Fr?hlichen Geburtstag! Today is 7-7-07! A lucky day in any language! Thanks again for getting this thing kick-started! I'll lift a glass in honor of White Armor tonight!

I have changed out my belt, closed up the sides, and changed the buttons. However, the helmet and the blaster are holding me back. I have not decided whether to upgrade my cheapo blaster or keep waiting for you-know-who to get around to making one... The helmet is the same issue: sink bucks into making the FX work, or getting another lid that might fit my head. So I am kind of "half pregnant" for a while. But I am sure happy with the mods already done!
-
Brad, thanks for posting this. This is so cool. You had to be walking 10 feet off the ground for the rest of the parade!

This only applies to those living in Europe. I believe the rest of us need to pic up our tickets in the registration "will call" area. One exception is that those of us volunteering can pick up our tickets at the Costume registration table between 3pm and 5pm Thursday and between 6:45am and 7:30am on Friday.
