LOL... thanks for the encouragement. I will be in northern Minnesota at a camp with my son this weekend, and the temps are supposed to be below zero (Fahrenheit) all weekend... and I have no idea what the windchill will be... At least I won't be trooping...

FX Armor from COSTUMEJUNKIE
TK4999 replied to huttman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Matt, there are a LOT of helpful threads around here, so check em out! And welcome to the FISD! -
Scott, This is a GREAT idea! I was tempted to go last year, but the budget got busted by C-IV and CE. It would be awesome to get a decent contingent of FISD troopers to march together! I wonder I Disney would let us march with our banner? Let us know what an "animal house" might cost us for the weekend. However, I gotta vote for the weekend of June 7-8, cuz the next weekend we have the grand opening of the Star Wars exhibit at the MN Science museum, which is the premier event for our garrison (and the whole upper Midwest) this year.

Orrin, With a name like that, you must be Scandanavian, and familiar with the cold. Here in Minnesota, we sometimes face the same conditions. I have trooped in single digits with below zero windchills, and I have used a 5mm full wetsuit under my armor. It has "farmer john" style pants with a full top, so I have 10mm of neoprene wrapping my torso. The only way this will work, however, is if you use velcro on the armor seams, which would allow you to add shims for the extra bulk. If your wetsuit is not completely black, you could wear your normal undergarment over it, assuming it stretches (like underarmor). I also recommend some hand and feet warmers that help keep your extremities warm. All this can postpone the inevitable hypothermia...

Ed, I use gorilla glue too, but keep in mind that if a fan has their arm behind your back for a picture, they can break the bond if they hit it hard enough when they drop their arm. I know because it has happened to me twice. But I just glue it right back together again for the next troop.

On FX armor there is a line where you need to cut. The cut line should be at the LOWER belt line, just like in the picture above.

Well, I missed "Merry Christmas" so how about "Happy New Year"?

Ian, Thanks for a great job representing the 501st as well as the FISD! Lookin good, man! We appreciate your service!

I wear an underarmor hood. Not only does it cover the skin on your neck above the neckseal, but it also helps to wick away perspiration on a muggy troop. You can order them online if you can't find them in a local store.

There are two separate threads going on here: One is that we need to be aware of the paranoia that exists regarding guns and to not do something stupid with our toys. I think we are all in fairly close agreement here. The other is regarding the right to bear arms... real guns... For those not paying attention, there is a case being reviewed by the US Supreme Court right now that is weighing the interpretation of what that right really means... whether it is the states' need to maintain a militia (now called the National Guard) or a private individuals right to own and carry a weapon. It is not clear where this will end up, since it is only 9 individuals who will make this interpretation.

I agree. Slippery/Fud/Chris, you have had your say. Matt, you have had your say. Thread is locked. If anyone wants to post any pics, please feel free to do so, but start a new thread.

Elite Boots Question
TK4999 replied to TK-9805's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Yeah. You can find the GML via the garrison listing on the 501st boards. Then contact him/her and ask about it. -
Oooooh - Yeah! Happy Birthday Bro! It is totally awesome to know you, even if only on the forums (so far...) Have a good one!

Hmmm... The problem with being in the middle of the country is that our homes are not worth as much as yours. Mine is only about $500,000... but it does have 6000 square feet with a three car garage, and a 1/4 acre lot...

Holy crap! It's like you are rebuilding the thing from the inside out! Are you living in the bedrooms with a camping stove?

My TK Suit is Complete (Well......)
TK4999 replied to Thumper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Nice work, soldier! And welcome to the FISD! -
Actually, there is quite a bit of posting about this on the Legion boards. Losing all your earthly possessions has gotta bite, but getting everyone safe and sound is what counts right now. With those winds, fire can move pretty fast and in those hills there aren't a lot of road options for getting out.

Yeah! I suppose that those who may be affected are probably not thinking about loggin in here any time soon... I can't imagine what it might be like right now for them...

My Stormtrooper costume
TK4999 replied to Jehudah Design's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Hey Johnny, Great looking armor and an awesome video! Running, sitting, and hitting those stairs at speed! You are one bad-an impolite person trooper! You should submit that video as your Stormtrooper application. You have raised the bar! Good to have you in the FISD! -
For some reason, Lucas chose (either by omission or commission) to not have the stormtroopers demonstrate any form of formal salute. However, I usually salute any kid in a Vader, clone, or stormtrooper costume. They seem to get a kick out of it that they are singled out and acknowledged as "one of us." This past weekend and next weekend, we are trooping at a fundraiser for Como Zoo in St Paul, and all the kids are in costume, so it is a blast!

TK-8280's ROTJ Armor Build[*FX]
TK4999 replied to TK8280's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Indeed it is, Bernard, indeed it is! -
You can get into the Legion with a "generic" Stormtrooper costume that is not necessarily identical to the specific configurations found in each of the movies. These designations are for a trooper who wants to be more authentic to the actual movie, and is willing to make specific modifications to his costume. These specific mods can be found in other areas of this forum. Check em out!
