Dritz is the way I went and they worked fine, a downside is that it's difficult to use pop rivets to secure them (such as on your belt or directly on the armor) as the opening is a bit too large for the rivet. Another downside is the price at 7.99 + for 7 sets it is a bit much. You can buy the other kind by the 100 on ebay or from Tandy. In retrospect, I wish I'd done that because I spent a fortune as you'll need about 60 or so to complete your armor. As far as the nylon webbing, ask someone there to direct you. I couldn't find it either and it ends up its not near the elastic. Good luck!

Anybody in the Chicago Land area?
Solcar23 replied to squirt40's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I'm in the Northside of Chicago near Wrigley. PM me if you need some help. Signing up for the MWG boards would be a good idea. -
I saw this on Reddit and the animator commented. He said it was just a test that he was sending to some friends for critiques and somehow it was leaked and went viral. He said it's better than his first try but it still was a work in progress. I do not think there are any plans for a real release anytime soon, so we should just keep our fingers crossed that he makes more of this in the future. I'll try to find the original comments and post em here for you guys. It looks so awesome though!

My armor is coming in, now what?
Solcar23 replied to KO22's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Sorry forgot to address these: 1. I have read about using just velcro and the snap method for securing the armor. Which do you think is best? Go snaps for sure! 2. When and where should I get a belt and boots from? I looked at tkboots for the boots, any thoughts? Belts: Sales threads here, Trooperbay or make your own. Boots: TKBoots all the way! 4. Last question, do need to get extra abs plastic for the coverstrips, snap attatchments, etc.? If so where should I get it from, I haven't seen it anywhere and I have been looking. You probably won't need it as I understand most armor makers supply you with enough for your build. I know firsthand that ATA supplies 2 sheets which pretty much covered everything I needed. Good Luck! -

You'll need 7 8mm brass split rivets and 2 8mm-10mm brass cap rivets. You can find these on eBay. These are for Centurion standards but you might as well just get it out of the way when you first do your build instead of having to replace them later if you decide to apply for centurion. There are a few threads here that have lists of things people get together while waiting for the armor. Just look around. Here's mine, I pretty much used everything listed with very little extra stuff left over. I upgraded lots of parts so you can ignore those but all of the upgrades really were worth it. It's all gathered from reading posts and getting recommendations constantly on here for over several months: http://www.whitearmo...l=&fromsearch=1 I went a little overboard and aimed for Centurion while I was building so you can probably leave a few of the frills out here and there. Don't forget your E-11 and holster! -
Got it! Thanks!

I can't for the life of me figure out how to add an image like a banner into my signature area. How exactly does one accomplish this?

General question: LED on suits?
Solcar23 replied to shoptoylife's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I think the majority here are focused on creating more screen accurate armor (canon) as opposed to "idealized" options. There weren't any lights on the originals, so we don't generally add them here. Also, I don't think you would be able to gain acceptance to the 501st (I'd have to check the CRL) for that costume, and you definitely would be ineligible for EIB/Centurion with add ons like that. You could always go HWT or Sandy and make your backpack light up (make sounds, etc) if you're set on adding lights. -
The 6th one holding the calendar is epic! I love the sign in the background that says "ARMOR"! How cool is that! Thanks for posting!

I suppose I'll just wait it out. Thanks Mathias! Now I'm just itching for those bad a** EIB/Centurion patches and rockers! Maybe Santa will do a run before Xmas! Mmmmmm.........merch..........:-D

Well how different is the new design? I've waited this long, it's no biggie to wait a bit longer I suppose. Any timeframe for them yet? If it's gonna be like forever or something, then I'll take the old one but no sweat otherwise. Thanks man!

I know there are a lot of disturbances in the force lately but is there any light on the horizon for getting certificates made for those of us that have achieved EIB and Centurion? I love the way they look and I'd really like to get mine so I can frame them. I understand if there's a delay, I've seen the staff postings but wasn't sure if there was any resolution yet on who was going to do these. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

Hard times...Have to sell my baby...looking for help (TL;DR at bottom)
Solcar23 replied to HailPalpatine's topic in Off Topic
Good luck trooper! You have friends here and I'm sure things will look up eventually. List here and I'm sure you'll have plenty of folks willing to purchase from you right away. As soon as things look up, we'll all be here to help you get rolling again! Remember our motto: "Troopers Helping Troopers!" Also check your local garrison (Bloodfin comes to mind), there are many troopers and 501st members in your area that might be able to take it off of your hands too! -
ATA is definitely worth the wait! 18 weeks though! Wow!

Here's a quick armor detail question...
Solcar23 replied to TrooperJay's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
You can get the shoulder bell decals through Trooperbay. I just picked up a set last week. -
I have the Darth Vader from this exact era. They were released late in the year in 1977, and I may be wrong, but I've heard that the reason that the stamping on these really early ones is hand etched, not stamped is because apparently they were first runs that were produced in a rush from Don Post to meet the holiday demands. I'd really like to find out the exact deal on these someday. Star Wars helmets.com is a little weak on the Don Post lids. My Darth was the very first Star Wars item I ever received Christmas 1977 when I was 7years old, before the addition took over and I still have it to this day. I just recently shined it up with some Novus, and it doesn't look half bad on the shelf! This is before I shined it up last week. I need to heat bend the cap because it warped from many years in an attic through high school and college.
