Best Wireless Mic / Static Burst Combo
Solcar23 replied to TKROB's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I like the Memorex wireless system, iComm static burst module and the 12w Aker amp (although the 10w is plenty). both available through TK products' Jim Sauter here on the boards. I got the memorex for like $19 on ebay, the Aker on eBay for somewhere around $40 (for the 10w or $50 for the 12w) and the iComm is around $100 from Jim directly by responding to the pinned thread in the For Sale section here. I've had mixed results with the combo but overall it works great! Here are all of the components: --------------- -

Is Photobucket playing up or is it just me?

I chose not to do the upgrade they're rolling out today. I couldn't figure out how to use the new interface to copy the url here so I chose the option for the old version of the site. Maybe the problem your having has something to to with the new look and possibly the site is going down sporadically. Personally, I don't think I like the new design. -
I use a travel neck wallet for a bit of cash, credit card, ID and my iPhone. It all fits in really flat and unobtrusive behind the ab piece. I keep the rest of my valuables locked in my Stanley bin which has key locks on the hasps and padlock holes. As far as a phone while trooping, It's such a pain to even get it out and use it, especially with the rubber gloves on. I need to remove my forearms just to get em off, so I just forget it altogether. Also, I've found that I'm having such a great time I don't want to be bothered by a phone call anyway. It can wait. Good luck with your build!

Bottom line. It's resin, which is brittle. It will almost surely break if dropped, handled wrong or just generally mishandled. Don't get me wrong, with epoxy as glue, a few coats of thick textured rustoleum and a clear coat it feels pretty solid. But as an example of the fragility, Gazmosis handed his off to a kid once and the minute he had it in his hands the kid broke the selector switch. I am very careful not to let anyone else hold it and I never have it holstered (just swings around too much, even my hyperfirm does, but why would you holster it anyway?). Overall though, for general trooping and just holding it for pics it should last forever. If you want durability get a hyperfim from Lewis. Absolutely amazing looking and pretty much indestructible. When I got mine I must've dropped it a hundred times just because I liked the rubbery thud it made. Can't break those! Good luck! Doopys on the bottom, hyperfirm on top, they're actually exactly the same size, the bottom one is just closer, optical illusion! ---------

Such an awesome troop!!! I can't wait to see the pics! I'm so glad I got to be a part of it! -
Leave your forearms attached and hanging from your biceps until you are done. It'll give you more freedom in your arms to make any last minute adjustments.

I just wanted to congratulate Steve Gaza "Gazmosis" on receiving Trooper of the Month for the Midwest Garrison! You can't find a better TK or a more giving human being, and all around excellent example of what being in the 501st is about! If he's not leading the charge building a custom mini TK for a little girl who was bullied or raising enormous amounts for charities like breast cancer, he's helping other TK's or going above and beyond helping with the organization of troops! In fact, I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for the encouragement and support of this MWG member! Congrats Steve, you are an asset and an incredibly positive role model for all of us here on the FISD, MWG and the 501st Legion! Cheers my friend! Check out the page: http://www.midwestgarrison.com

This is the bin most legion members use. I love mine and you can get a fancy personalized plaque to replace the stanley logo! Here's a link to the bin: -------------

Just checking in on this one. I'm sure you guys are plenty busy, but I was wondering if there was any progress on these?

I used a plastic circle template to pencil out the circles then just filled em in. You did an amazing job for freehand! I wouldn't have trusted myself!

Many use the Aker amp with an iComm static burst. That's what I use and it works for me!

I can't play drums in my armor (but I sooo want to!).

I thought he meant that he was using the webbing for the snap plates. Yes, Mathias is right, use only elastic for the connections between pieces but personally I preferred using webbing snap plates instead of the ABS method, much more flexible in the tight spots and I've not had any problems with them at all. Also, use white webbing for the shoulder straps.
