  1. I agree with Ingrid that local population is the key. In the MWG and surrounding garrisons whenever a troop pops up (especislly if it's a big popular one) there is never a shortage of any costumes. Here's a grerat one the garrison did in Joliet, Ill. Different costumes up the wazoo! This is the MWG and a couple of neighboring garrisons though, but turnout for most, while not as many as this, can be similar ----------
  2. As usual, a wonderful job and a great read!
  3. I just wrap mine securely in a large soft towel. It fits in the Stanley bin fine and I've never had any issues with damage even with rolling the bin around, Standing the bin on its side, putting it in the car, carrying it upstairs, etc. They are relatively fragile, like, I wouldn't drop it on concrete, but they're tough enough to withstand storage in the bin with ease.
  4. This reminds me of a Phineas and Ferb episode that I saw with my kids where it was a battle at a con between "trekkies/SW" type fans and "LOTR" type fans! There was even a quasi George Lucas type character in it! HI-Larious!
  5. Nice work! All of my building experience was with models as well before I built the armor and I found that I used many of the same tools and skills I developed from model building. I think you'll do great!
  6. Members here such as Trooperbay and TK Products Jim also sell their products on eBay (I should know, I've bought plenty from them on eBay) as well as it can be a quicker way to get a Doopy Doos kit than going through their website. The armor is 90% of the time just crap or recast but some members (Gazmosis recently) have sold their armor on eBay so the above posts are right that OCCASIONALLY a good deal can be found. It's also probably the only place a member can rid themselves of an old FX kit anymore since none of us will touch them with a ten foot pole now that better armors exist. Overall though, you need to do your research here and be extremely thorough with your own knowledge and recognition of the armor types to be able to sort through the junk that is ordinarily sold on there. Last word: Just buy from our vetted armorers. Done deal. Everyones-a-happy then!
  7. No sniper plate, thighs sidways! Oh Gawd! Why won't these abominations stop!
  8. Nice work Dom! Good luck buddy! I agree with all of the above said about your forearms, biceps (connect your forearm to your bicep with a snap and strap) and thighs (lower them) and I would also suggest that you connect your back to the kidney with some snaps and elastic. It's pulling away and looks like its floating a bit. It won't affect your app and it's just my opinion, others may disagree, but I personally think it looks better and more unified when those back pieces are connected. Other than that I think you're looking pretty great! It'll be an honor to troop along side you at the Autism Walk in May! Good job!
  9. Sorry man! We don't mean to hijack your thread or anything and believe me, it's not you at all! It's just such a totally common first posting on here that it has a level of Groundhog Day type comedy to those of us us that haunt these boards daily. All on here are here to help and assist in any way we can to get you in some sweet, sweet armor as soon as you'd like. Ask anything, anytime. Everyone her is really nice and helpful. There are no trolls so feel comfortable and free to ask away! Good luck!
  10. Someone in some armor should do a short video PSA that would automatically play! That would be awesome! OR we need a Uncle Sam type picture of a TK that says "I Want YOU, to stay away from eBay!!"
  11. GOD! Thats an AMAZING idea! These posts are understandable, how are most noobs to know, but it should just smack ya in the face when you sign up! But boy do these get a bit tiresome! lol!
  12. For building your armor use E6000 not CA glue. If you make a mistake (almost inevitable) you won't be able to pull the pieces apart for fixing. With E6000 its very forgiving. You can pull apart any piece and remove the residue with your finger if you need to. I had to pull my forearms apart at least two times in my build to make adjustments and I was thankful that I used E6000 as opposed to epoxy or CA glue. Heres my list of items I used to build my armor, these were my essentials. clearly there were lots of optional upgrades which I don't regret at all, some are still available here on the boards some aren't but with some searching you may be able to gather most of it up. I created an ANH stunt kit so you'll need some different details for the ESB version. 13. Yes, they should be as tight fitting as possible. For instance, the racing underwear that some have here are pretty baggy in the elbows. When I was doing the same searching you are now many members directed me (and others) away from those because of that reason. Compression gear is the best choice. The Under Armour stuff is excellent and high quality but for the cost of one shirt you could have both the tops and the bottoms of the East Bay stuff. Also I haven't done a ton of troops in my 8 months of being approved but there isn't any wear so far on my East Bay stuff, it looks great after many washings. No matter which way you choose, Renaissance dance wear, Racing under suit, Under Armour, East Bay, just be sure it is as form fitting as possible, no sags or bunching should be visible anywhere. Also make sure it's the darkest color available with little or no logos. As Ingrid said above, you can always use a magic marker to black out the small logo on the Under Armor or East Bay. I have noticed that I didn't have to do that at all on my East Bays. The logo on the back of the pants gets covered by the shirt (and it's hidden behind armor anyway) and there isn't any obvious marks on the shirt so no problems there. Can't recommend the East Bays enough, affordable and exactly what you need for under your armor. There was a thread talking all about this earlier last year somewhere in the forum if you search a bit more.
  14. I know it's superfluous to show, but it's late and I'm punchy. But here's what I look like getting ready, you can see I'm getting the gloves on while the forearms just hang there. It's especially helpful when you have to reach around to your back for a stray cable or loose strap at the last second before you put your lid on. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten something then had to freakin remove the stupid forearms just to resnap a snap or something. Just an anal retentive FYI: I have replaced those crappy yellowed handguards for some nice new shiny white ones. Can't stand looking at those things like that! ----------
  15. I have latex handguards and have the same issue as the first post. I let my forearms hang attached by the strap to the bicep until I'm completely ready then AFTER I put the gloves on I squeeze my hand in the glove and handguard through the opening. It's not exactly easy but it works and it's better than trying to stuff that glove into the front opening of the forearm. I've also found that it's easier to get myself ready if I leave the forearms of until everything is done. Just my 2 cents.......
  16. East Bay all the way baby! Cheap, totally comfortable and absolutely perfect for under your armor. Look no further my friends! Lol! I think I should go to work for those guys! Really though, Lots of folks use these here and everyone likes em. The best part is that if they wear out they're not a pain to replace. I also have some winter versions for the colder troops. I can't recommend these enough and believe me I went through all of the other options when I was doing my build. Save yourself some time and money and just go with these. --------------- They also often have a deal when you buy both!
  17. Attache check in. All new changes noted!
  18. Ohhhh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!!!! Move along, move along..... An ATA helmet kit (which as far as I know is the most affordable helmet kit we've vetted) isn't much more than this and actually might be cheaper when you add in the shipping for the ebay helmet. You'll get much better service, be more satisfied and in the end have something you'll be able to REALLY use and not something you'll regret later. Good Luck!
  19. Another wonderful job troopers! Always a pleasure to read! Thank you all for your hard work!
