    my new ride

shhhhhhh....she's sleeping. actually more like FREEZING. Letting her idle for a while...man i wish i could take her for a spin right now.
  2. Yep I do believe you're right, Paul. Don't get me wrong, I think our suits look fantastic. It's just that the subtle differences are even more evident on the big, prominent pieces like the chest! Steve--my chest piece simply hangs from the shoulders like most folks =) Chris--you may be right that significant additional trimming might mitigate the height issue. I may do that one of these days.
  3. I've shared this with a few folks over the last week or so and I thought I'd throw this out there for review. I recently photoshopped myself (very shoddily, I might add) into a screencap from ANH to compare the chest and bells. You can definitely tell the newer armor's lineage is ROTJ (or other than ANH) in this image. I've always noticed how much more "puffed out" the ANH chests were. Here you can see the differences. You can see the subtle diff's in the bells, too... Just move your eyes quickly back and forth between me and the guy next to me. The differences are many. I've always noted much more puffed-out, how much higher-up the ANH armor rides (no black area below the chin). Also notice the convex-to-concave relationship of the edge of the bells to the edge of the chest piece on the screncap. The chest actually overlaps the bells in this (and many other) screenshots. Also, the bottom arc is much more pronounced, and the sides--near the armpits--don't "flare out" in the screencap as they do on me. There seems to be much less room between the top of the man-boobs and the neck on the originals. It's also amazing that my chest piece rides tight up against my neck, yet I still can't lose the black area. And my bucket is tight to the top of my head. I guess I need to lose a few vertebrae. I mean, I'm allowing for different body types and assembly, but there is still a huge difference!
  4. Great job on the bucket, FANTASTIC job on that frown! I agree that the eys need a bit more trimming, but that's just me (yes and they are a bit small, eh? not enough room to change your mind in those things)
  5. Ah ok. Thx for the correction guys on the ebay seller. I just assumed (I thought I heard somewhere that was him). My humble apologies for stating as fact!
  6. Matt sells on eBay now under the name matt970isdead this one recently ended: http://cgi.ebay.com/STORMTROOPER-Helmet-bl...%3A1|240%3A1318
  7. Nice photoshopping indeed!!! Here is a whopping ten minutes of photoshop fiddling =)
  8. yep--our office uses Websense.
  9. i do believe that may be the case
  10. well color me happy...FISD is unblocked at work today! hoping it's not a temporary thing... anyone else unblocked?
  11. congrats, and fantastic setup you got there
  12. fantastic armor, Billy!!! did i miss it somewhere or is that TM armor?? Scott
  13. Todd- I modded a SDS belt, too, and know exactly the dilemma you are facing. By the time i got around to modding mine, he was no longer selling to the states due to the LFL litigation, so I was unable to simply buy a new belt very easily and knew I had to proceed with extreme caution! This is how I ended up modding mine. I simply trimmed away the abs belt along the line of the front ammo belt, then used threaded posts and ind. strength velcro to attach the canvas belt. Worked like a charm.
  14. Visibility is excellent (it's a football eyeshield after all)! The tint is much like the lenses I currently use (welder's eyeshield): a slight green tint. Smitty, I think the one I bought was $17 if I recall. Got it from a guy in Australia. The pic I used above is a Nike insert, but I actually ended up with an UnderArmor insert. And to clarify: the insert material is just an acetate sheet with the coating on one side. I also tried putting the film right behind the existing lens in my helmet and looked at how the reflection looked from the outside. It looked really cool as you could juuuuust see the green shimmer when the light hit it. Problem was it was a double shade effect and it was too dark to see out of. I think if i decide to permanently install it in a helmet, I'll probably use a clear acrylic in front of it to keep fingerprints off it. I actually began the process by looking for a clear acetate with green iridium coating to place over my existing lenses but couldnt find a good one. Anyhoo, it's just something I've been investigating. Every now and then I look at my gentle giant trooper bust and I see that little green tint in the eyes and think hey...I wonder if I could do that....?
  15. Hey all! I thought I'd share this little experiment with you all. For a while I've been pondering how to get a cool shimmery green looking effect on my lenses without sacrificing visibility (in or out). After looking up all kinds of materials, acetates, vellums, iridium coated acrylics, etc, I ordered a football helmet eye shield insert in "mirror-green" off of ebay. Check out the effect: At times you can't see any green at all--just black-- at other times theres a bright green highlight.
  16. LOL now THAT is funny!! welcome 2 the madness Nate!
  17. I've got an SDS detonator and I know exactly what you mean. I recently built a second TD and used 1" wide aluminum strips and bent them to shape by hand (very easy) for a more accurate look: also check out these: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/star...DTroopers19.png http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/star...HDTroopers2.png
  18. If you're going for a stunt look by adding the teeth, I would definitely consider raising the brow up. Your current brow looks great for a hero but way too low for a stunt. Just my $.02. Otherwise, congrats on the submission!
