Hey Vern, I've been looking REALLY closely (and counting pixels), and I think the dimensions for the main base/body section of the pack should be 15"w/18"l/5"d. At that size, it would be easy to fit an O2 can underneath (especially if you made a half-round one ). I'm in the middle of making up a massive series of illustrated observations on this, with loads of measurements and diagrams... I can either start my own thread or I can spam this one up with them- if you don't object.

How far can backpacks deviate for EIB?
Darth Hilarious replied to SmilesLikeJoker's topic in Heavy Weapons Trooper
Yeah, you could end up leaning a bit to one side with that much weight hanging off you... Better make sure you have a gun on both sides so you don't tip over! -
Well, then it seems all is as it should be again. Huzzah! And don't feel bad, I still gotta get my EIB (soooo close, just neatening things up a little)

Maybe go for EIB first and modify the pack later? Or make them detachable... with inconspicous attachment points. -
Locitus' badge is back! I think they're all back... Eric, are you meant to have one?

I feel like such a downer for saying this, but it would be really difficult to spread ashes on the moon. Because there's no air for them to float on, they'd pretty much fall directly down. And althogh things fall slower on the moon, without air, dust and ash fall at the same speed as everything else. Definitly an appropriate sendoff, but the visual effect would be quite bizarre (the image of ashes gracelessly plopping to the ground in moon-physics was the first thing I thought of when you suggested it). NASA should do totally something nice for him though, they sent James Doohan's ashes into space. RIP to a great man, maybe all the idiot conspiracy theorists can let up and finally admit that he really did do something great.

Jes Gistang - research thread
Darth Hilarious replied to Daetrin's topic in Legacy Stormtrooper (Joker Squad)
Well, I was actually saying that based on the statue proportions, Jes pretty much is of inhuman goddess build. That said, I totally agree that done right, this armour can still look as it should on a real woman. You mentioned animated Padme, animated Clones also come to mind. Ridiculously idealised, but looks great on real people in real life. I actually don't think that multiple sizes of ab plate would really be necessary. So long as one is made that is large enough to be trimmed to size for anyone, there shouldn't be a problem. (I say this because I'm very skinny and trimmed an FX plate to fit me) On the other hand, the raised lines of Jes' ab are a part of what accentuates her waist... -
Nope. Now most Centurion badges are back, but the staff are missing theirs. This is becoming amusing. Gremlins and such.
-
Is it only the staff who can see them now? Looking at it by itself I realised that I can't see any of them, I was confused by the other red badges.
-
I can Mathias' red badge... and most others? TK1355's (Turrican) is not showing for me... Some are there, some aren't! Curiouser and curiouser...

Is armor from the SDS site good ?
Darth Hilarious replied to Mattrendar's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Has SDS started supplying canvas belts yet? Their plastic ones won't pass 501st approval... -
I can't see either of your badges. And I've looked using both IE and K-meleon (which runs on the same engine as FF). Maybe only staff can see them atm?
-
Would this pass basic 501st approval?
Darth Hilarious replied to Dday's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You could go RotJ. It'd still be a 'regular' TK (as opposed to a pinstripe-y one), and you wouldn't have to replace the shoulder bridges. And as you said, you've already got the belt. -
Crack in my FX armor... How do I repair this?
Darth Hilarious replied to darthnayce1138's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
My technique requires that you have spare ABS. What worked for me was attaching a tab of ABS on the inside across the crack (using ABS paste). Then fill the crack with ABS paste (doesn't need to be perfect). Then sand back, followed by progressive wet sanding/polishing to get back to a nice finish. I've had a bunch of cracks in my armour I've had to fix because of stupid stunts (the worst was a 2" long L-shpaed split up the middle of my shoulder bell after I attempted to tuck'n'roll in my armour). You'd never know it was ever there now. Also, this technique makes the armour less likely to crack in future (though also much less flexible). -

I'll collate some pics and make a thread. I've been meaning to for a while now anyways... And wow, that Sorran guy was incredible! Sadly giving credence to the phrase: "Never buy Wars gear from a Trekkie." Incidently, it was a bloody Trekkie that sold me my kit! Although, seeing as how it was already 501st approved and all, getting my numbers was a snap. New people, do not take that last bit seriously!!! -
Here's a real one: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0coUMMi41BA?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Skip to about 0:50. Seems Hyperfirm are right, and our CRL needs a touch up... EDIT: ARGH! YouTube encoding is escaping me right now! Just use the link, mm'kay?

That's exactly what I was aiming for. By having loads of info to draw from, you can pretty much 'be' the character without using a mini-script for details. Comes across naturally. Gah, I need to type mine up and share it with you all...

Darth Hilarious replied to Elegance's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Mate, did you read what I wrote earlier? When I bought this kit (before I joined the FISD), I couldn't have cared less where it came from, so long as it looked the part. Funnily enough, nobody here ever judged me for my armour, they helped me to get it looking as good as it does today. But having been a member here for a while now, I've gained an appreciation for the level of effort that goes into quality armoury. But if you want to talk in terms of pure business, with no regard for anything else, at least pay attention to Locitus- there are cheaper kits out there that are legit. From a strictly business perspective, you be a fool to pay more for an inferior product, methinks. -

There is the issue of legitimacy. It may not seem important now, but it could haunt you down the track. I got my kit from ebay. It's a recast, and though I dont really mind where it came from too much (hey, I was drunk and foolish and have made this thing look GOOD since then), I will never be truly proud of this kit. -

If your only problem with Freelancer was the graphics not being flashy enough, there is a mod out there that will make it run in hi-def. -
Connecting the chest and ab plate
Darth Hilarious replied to Dday's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I wear FX and it works for me. -
I'm going to be super picky and point out that those bolts don't have the correct knurling pattern.
