  1. Correct, the loop is only available once you have your numbers.
  2. Thanks! The old Turd Polish must have worked! And yeah, I totally agree. I've been wanting to replace that... Cheers, man. LOL, as Spectre said, you'd be surprised... I managed to overestimate my skinny-ness somwhat, and trimmed WAY too much off when I was first building. There's about an inch and a half of shim on each side. Before anyone asks- yes, I LOVE doing things the extra hard way.
  3. Yeah, super-accurate FX is as rare as hen's teeth. I was suprised he was willing to part with it.
  4. Hey, If I'm on the forums, and I see a question I can answer, I do what I can. +1 to that
  5. I was thinking it would be possible to make it appear as it should, while retaining function. As I said though, that would be a real challenge. The reed switch is not only simpler to do, but more flexible. +2 on the reed switches When I was trying to think of making the actual buttons work I was thinking inside the box, if you will. As soon as Brent mentioned the reed switch,
  6. Julie, self-nomination is not allowed. Tom has already been nominated and seconded. And so has the other guy... It's a win/win election, this one, BTW.
  7. The one BIG no-no is visible lights in the bucket, but again. that's an outward appearance thing.
  8. Well, if you've got the electronic skills, sourcing buttons would be the challenging part! I also have no idea where you'd get the right buttons from. There's two possibilities I can think of: 1) Scour the internets until you come across the right button readily available from some electronic part supplier. BAM! But goodluck finding them... or 2) Combine the prop-making aspect and make an appropriate button. You could use a billet button style (like VaderDave's), and make a spring-mounty thingy with a microswitch (or just a smaller pushbutton) which they click onto. Most commercial products take this kind of appraoch, bigger buttons pushing littler ones (look down where your hands are for a really common product that uses this approach ) Alternatively you could have a small, surface mounted button with a soft/semi-soft cover over it to give the proper appearence (this method is probably easier, but more likely to look dodgy). I also tinker with electronics on the side, but only very simple circuits (guitar guts and pedals) That is totally cheating That would work, too. In fact, that would work anywhere in the armour- you could use such a system for a fan on/off in your lid, for instance...
  9. 501st standards apply only to the outward apperance and construction of a kit. If you can get a Jacuzzi, a barfridge and a plasma screen or two in there, more power to you.
  10. Nothing like the excitement of starting a first build! Enjoy, and savour the wonder. The journey is an amazing one.
  11. Whether your blaster is a real Sterling, a full-resin build, or a solid rubber cast, we can all agree that dropping it is a VERY BAD THING and that it may well leave some kind of mark. (even if it doesn't shatter into a million pieces). So whether you want to be sensible like Mathias and play it safe or live dangerously and risk your baby all the time like I do... DON'T DROP IT otherwise
  12. I think so. If you do a Stormtrooper, you'll get a TK designation with your (now) 5 numbers If you do an Officer as well, you'll also have an ID designation, with the same numbers. Each Detachment has their own designations. So, I'm TK-3483 If I do a Tusken Raider, I also get to be DZ-3483. You get one set of numbers, and letters to go with each costume. Does that answer make sense (and is it the one you were looking for)?
  13. Well the E-6800 is just UV-resistant, so I don't think your theory about the numbering system holds true there Seriously though, I think it is the 'non-sag' property of E-6100 that makes it suitable for concrete repairs. I think we're all on the right track using the standard 6000. The high viscosity might be nice to work with, if you find the regular stuff too runny. And having colourmatched options for TKs and TXs was new info to me, could be worth a look into. UV resistance isn't much of a plus, since all the glue is on the inside of the armour and not exposed (I hope) And yes, I'm quite sure that if you inhale too much E-6000, you will eventually type all of your posts somewhat like my previous one. Actually, that's not quite accurate. The writing style would be similar, but the content may lack...
  14. I've head this question thrown around a few times. Not that I know of, but it'd be totally doable (if a bit of an effort). A lot of people ask "Why bother/what's the point?" but I'd tend to disagree. You could hook them up to a RomFX or some such, it could be really handy. All you'd need is some suitable buttons (7/16"), and some wiring and some electronic skills.
  15. BRO! You know I've got your back! (no really, I'm right behind you on this one)
  16. Jimmy McEwan Darth Furious KnightFall Squad, Terror Australis Garrison Armor= 100% SCREEN ACCURATE 501ST APPROVED GENUINE FX is what the eBay listing said Helmet= Looks suspiciously like AP Blaster= Doopy's base parts on aluminium pipe, Tango'd Fett's greeblies Height = 5'10" Weight = about 25 pounds or so (lost a bit of weight lately, so the belt was sitting a little low) Boots = TK boots Canvas belt = TKittel Decals = TrooperBay Electronics = I think it's an Aker, but it's all in Chinese so who knows, really? Neck Seal = Shiney (TAG) Holster = The Fett (TAG) Obviously, getting a suit that was already approved before it was even sent to me was a huge boon, makes things so much easier when you don't even have to wait until your kit is built! And being 100% screen accurate, it was practically Centurion-ready out of the box! Just had to get rid of the gaffer tape and flaky paint. Drum roll... So, what say you 'elitist accuracy snobs'? Does the Birthday Boy get in??? Oh, and I'd be remiss not to thank my sponsor...
  17. I once got a 2-inch long, L-shaped split right up the middle of my shoulder bell, when I was attempting to do a judo roll in full kit. It wouldn't have happened if I hadn't done four consecutive attempts. So that would probably count as abuse. Worst thing is, we didn't even get a good one for the video footage.
  18. I put out some feelers on another forum for you. Came up with pretty much the same answer, that AT-ST driver-looking dude. But hey- one more visual reference and he's 501st approvable! Oh, and the red pauldron/blue pauldron mix-up was my bad memory- sorry for the confusion.
  19. Well, that escalated quickly! They only just started dishing out 5-digit TKID#'s and here's one going EIB already! Nice work! Please proceed to the top of the class.
  20. I managed to break one of their blades, but it also nearly broke my damn leg, so yeah, indestructible is pretty right. Not true. Only the cheap ones lack sound. Ultrasabers with sound
  21. HAY GUISE -------- MEDIUM VISCOSITY HIGH VISCOSITY CLEAR WHITE GREY BLACK E-6100 NON-SAG also comes in ALL TEH COLOURS!!!!!!! UV6800 ULTRAVIOLET RESISTANT FYI: THERE'S A BIT MORE THAN 2 OF THEM sorry for yelling at you all, it's my birthday today and on my birthday I own pwn the internets
  22. I heard you can go blind if you do it too much. From the glare, y'know? In space, noone can hear you polish your helmet...
  23. Oh yes indeed. I let them all have a go of mine, I've never had any of those sorts of troubles. I tend to be happy-go-lucky with these sort of things... *shrugs* Best excuse ever.
  24. I let kids hold mine all the time, but I use a strict procedure to ensure against mishaps. Giving: 1. When handing your blaster to someone, offer them the grip while holding the T-tracks. 2. Show them where to put their other hand (under the stock/ around the tracks). 3. DO NOT LET GO UNTIL THEY ARE HOLDING PROPERLY WITH BOTH HANDS. Receiving: 1. Grasp firmly around the T-tracks immediately, don't snatch it, but don't be hesitant. 2. If you grasp from above, they won't let go as quick because they aren't sure if you're holding it yet. BTW kids love it when you show them how to hold it properly, it adds to the experience. Always give them a "Yeah, that's the way you do it!" or "You're a natural, have you ever thought about joining the Empire?" once they have a proper grip.
