  1. Justin, Great idea! You definitely knocked this one out of the park. For @RINZLERz: I’m glad you received your helmet. As you’re starting off, I’d encourage you to focus in on what Justin did for the eye. He and I discussed this a while ago and the two of us took very similar, but different approaches. Justin accentuated the eye bump with Bondo Spot and Glaze Putty and it turned out great. I actually used a 2 part epoxy when I did mine, but I also “squared” off the corners of the eyes just a bit. Either compound works well, but just remember that these details are very subtle on the ROTK helmet; less is more. I would also like to echo what Justin said about reinforcing the helmet. In comparing kits, it’s clear that the casting process creates slight variations from pull to pull. I didn’t have any thin spots on mine, but I did steal his bedliner idea and now use it religiously. Finally, do a careful examination of your bucket for pinholes and the low spots @gmrhodes13 pointed out. I spot checked mine with Spot and Glaze Putty, but also hit it with a guide coat prior to blocking it. I’m also using primer sealer now in order to create a perfectly seamless painting surface and the results have been fantastic. Anyways, check out the build thread and please feel free to reach out with any questions.

  2. Resurrecting this thread, we've got a Star Wars LARP event going on this October in Bolivar, Missouri which uses airsoft for the combat, and this thread came up. We've got a lot of guys planning on coming in armor to pew pew for two days. Mostly Mudtroopers and Mandos. The leader of the event, Chris Schulz, posted his testing results showing how well ABS can take an airsoft hit: We also recommend stronger eye lenses, full seal ANSI Z87 rated material such as welding lenses is required. 3. I've not seen that many V tabs used before, using one on either end is enough. With regards to the original brackets some use these just for show, remove the elastic and add the snap/elastic system, seems to hold the armor together a bit better, could also be the elastic used, there are two types available, one is a lot stronger/thicker than the other.

  5. Ok, Did a little work on the top of the Left Thigh. Doing this slow and easy. Plus, my Dremel needed a charge.

  6. Nice man! Speaking of, I’ve been modding the armor into a Mimban stormtrooper For the mud effects I simply dabbed and slapped the grey paint on with a paper towel. I’ll be going over it again with a darker color. These guys were seriously muddy in the movie lol. For the forehead piece what I did was cover the helmet dome in foil, then add slits so I could flatten it to create the template. I used two layers of thin foam for the brow cause the first layer I wrapped around the bottom of the forehead. Making it look uneven. Still gotta add the little details on the side of the forehead and clean it up. Gotta figure something out for the cloak as well.

  7. Those look alot more beefy than what I'm trying to bend and form. Which is good because I've had breakage before. A little pricey for just a dozen of them but I mainly only need them for the kidney/buttplate I spose.

  8. Also started to play with how to add straps between the bells and biceps. first with a snap in the bicep. then I started making the elastic straps. snapped one end on to get a feel for size… thinking maybe to short… but maybe not… it could work, with a snap on both sides. but I’m thinking now, maybe use a long patch of Velcro on the bell side, to let me have fine adjustability… Especially if/when the elastic stretches.

  9. Here is what I have been doing to fix up this TD. I found that I have the perfect paint, so I decided to patch the holes. (Tested on small cylinder on right) Covered the inside. ( my end caps come off making this easier) my fingers were covered in superglue when done! But I didn’t get them stuck on anything. filled things up with some filler. Second filler pass (alternated colors so I had a better idea of where I was) also made the screws black. What holes? and super close match grey applied. Now I wait for it to dry… (inside is original grey except for a bit of overspray) In the right light, 1 or 2 of the holes have a hint of where they were. if it bugs me to much, I’ll wet sand a bit more and paint again. Probably not though…

Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Welcome to the July newsletter, July officially closes out on the year long celebration of detachments 15th anniversary. We saw some great merch produced specifically calling out the milestone and I would like to thank everyone that had a hand in the discussions, design and helming of the merch runs. I'd also like to thank everyone who purchased anniversary merch and helped us get the word out of how proud we are to have made it this far. Here's is to the next 15 years I would now like to cover off on a few updates. Thank you to all that participated in the Members choice merch item for this year. looks like the Hoodie was a clear winner, so we will look to see how we can turn this into a reality over the next 6 months. James has allocated a merch slot to this item (we get 6 slots to use a year as per legion merch regulations) so consider it locked in. We may also be looking for some cool designs for this item, but James will work on that and any updates will come from him. I would also like to thank the members and staff alike that participated in our recent TLJ/TroS CRL proposed update Polls. Most found the various proposals made sense but there will be some more discussion around a couple of the elements before proposals are sent through to the LMO team. As per usual, once they do come into effect, any member in the process of a build that may be affected from a basic level stand point will have a 3 month grace period on the changes, but any new build will be required to follow the latest CRL version. While we are on CRL's there will be more work on a few new CRL's taking place based on the newer TV shows. As per the norm, we require members wanting to build these new costumes like the newer Remnant TK's, even the slight peak we had of the HWT seen in Obi Wan series, so you can expect to see a few new posts go live in the near future. CRL creation is reasonably straight forward on some of these newer versions of TK as we already have great base CRL's that can be used as the starting platform. If we don't have a person ready to build a costume, we don't have a CRL model. A CRL cant reach fruition unless it has correct images of all the parts represented by a CRL model, so It can't be created without those two major components. Also to remember, we need some good reference photos. Without those, the LMO team wont recognise a CRL possibility and we can't move forward. The old rule of thumb was a minimum of 4 images. Front, back, Left side and right side, clear screen images.etc This gives good coverage and highlights most things needed to visibly represent a 3D image of the character = happy LMO's, = happy member and DL. In recent times the LMO team have been a little more accepting of additional kinds of reference like Hot toys action figures, and to a lesser extent Black series figures (generally average detail compared to high end action figures). There may also be further exceptions to this like the potential for BTS (Behind The Scenes) information which in the past has only been used to improve on smaller unclear details on some costumes. Again this must all reach the LMO teams expectations and qualifications to allow a new to legion CRL to proceed. In essence, if we have enough acceptable references to clearly indicate a costume, then we are golden to move forward. Members build threads are one of the biggest areas of watermarked/missing images and we are asking you the membership to help and update your build threads yourselves as this is just too big a task for staff. Build threads requiring updates are being moved over to this area https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/241-build-threads-requireing-maintenance/ Thank you in advance for your cooperation. New FISD Tri Fold Brochure We have just launched our newly revised Detachment Tri Fold brochure. It's been quite a long time since we actually had these available and since then many things have changed leading us to updating some of the text to include new costumes, and have more relevant information. Originally these were done in a limited run by the member who created them, but nowadays, we have moved this to a print your own service making them accessible to all countries around the globe. Files are available to all full 501st members on request, and are completed in a very high resolution to ensure quality in a finished product. The thread can be found here for more information and how to access the files. Obi-Wan Kenobi Marathon - Canada The Canadian Garrison was truly honoured to be invited to attend the Obi-Wan Kenobi marathon screening in Toronto in June. They were joined by Hayden Christensen and Deborah Chow, in a theatre packed with Star Wars fans. An incredible night, they want to thank their friends at Walt Disney Studios for such a generous invitation, words cannot describe how much this meant to our members. 11. Thank you as always! Every time I read these I feel inspired

  12. I've been using these, painted black, for a bit of cleaner look with the same effect, if it helps! I epoxy the posterior side in place and they've worked well. You'll find you have less cracking edges and a significantly better range of movement and better fitting suit if you ditch the brackets though.... Being able to have your chest plate overlap your ab when you lean forward alone is worth it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07793L26V

  14. Take the control panel off and move it to cover your holes - those pipes are hard to find in the proper diameter in the US. Easy to square off the ends of the clip as well. (Pro tip - don't glue your end caps on if they'll stay with their own pressure - I keep my bin/car key and some individual packs of Advil pain reliever in there for long troops!)

  15. Just check the overall length of the pipe as you appear to have a large gap between the end caps and control panel and may help to cover the holes if you trim down a little. Also not holes are closer to the ends of the metal clips and they don't have rounded corners at the control panel side
