Having taken a short break to build my ESB helmet, troop, work on real life stuff... I'm back with some armor updates. Replacing the Ab-/Kidney Rivets Back in April, I got the following feedback after my EIB approval: This meant, I had to replace the rivets. I started prying the rivets off, only to irreparably damage said rivets. Therefore I had to buy new ones. Cue hours of internet searches, only finding wrong or overpriced options everywhere, until I asked an acquaintance if he knew where to find such rivets. He gave me different keywords and on my first attempt I found correct rivets. (Tovetis Zweispitznieten 8 x 9,5 8mm, if anyone's curious. 38cts/rivet). So here's what I did: I removed the existing strapping and rivets. I marked out a new cutline, cause I didn't like the old one. Cut to size. Marked up correct rivet placement. Filled in holes with ABS paste. Glued strapping back in. Then I added in the new rivets, first testing the whole process on a piece of scrap ABS, because I could do without repeating this entire process again, just because I didn't know how to set the rivets correctly. The new rivet placement was set precisely according to this: Afterwards I repeated the entire process on the abplate and then I painted the rivets white. I'll probably do some gentle colour corrections on the ABS paste in the future, due to the fact that my armor already yellowed a bit in comparison to the used paste. Adjusting the Chestplate Maybe it's just me slouching, maybe it's just something that I'd prefer to change for no other reason than the fact that I spotted it twice on some pictures, but I oftentimes got the feeling, that my chestplate was sitting a bit low, sometimes even catching on my an plate buttons (yikes). So to fix that I had to bring the chestplate higher up. Now, one way of doing that could have been a more rigid strapping at the bottom of the chestplate, such as the original strapping, but I moved away from that for a reason (less mobility and easier to pack). Therefore I had to pull it higher up by shortening the shoulder straps. Looks good, right? Had to heatform the shoulder bridges to conform to the new shape and loosen one of the elastic keeping my shoulder bell connected to the shoulderbridge strapping a bit, as the shoulderbells moved forward a centimetre, but overall I'm happy with the result, even if it was a lot of work that could have been avoided by having a better posture in armor Kidney-/Buttplate Strapping With me always sitting down in armor, it was probably inevitable that I'd get a crack in the return edge right to the screw, thanks to the original strapping in that part of my armor. Once it finally happened, I took out all the old strapping and replaced it with Glen's V-tabs instead. So functionally, I currently only have one plate of armor for both parts, and I got a pretty good gap between them thanks to it. Also, no risk of anything cracking -- worst comes to worst, the V-tabs will simply pop off and I'll have to reglue them. Boot Repairs Piece of advice: Photoshooting in the middle of the Netherlands in nature? Awesome. Wild growth? Dangerous for your boots. I must have gotten caught on a thorn or something with my boot during the shooting. Luckily, the local officers knew how to work with fabric of all kinds (shout out to ID-14445/Robin) and gave me the advice to simply go over it with some superglue. Worked really well, and with some additional help by a white outdoor marker, they look pretty spotless again. Other stuff I reworked my padding a bit, repaired some other things and am currently working on a trading card box. This weekend I'll have another troop, and I hope I can get a friend to check my thigh armor position and what I can fix without having to cut away (much), as that is the last to-do on my EIB Application Feedback List. Obviously, there's another few things that I might work on as well, but hopefully I'll continue on to my Centurion application within the next two months (no promises, I've got a few busy trooping weekends ahead, am still working on applications and will move again soon). Looking forward to any and all feedback!2 points

Posting some more images of the model done by Deggial Nox. Also like he used my images as the references to compare the original vs his. I can see why he did the belt the way he did. If you notice on the in-game model, the thermal detonator is hanging off the squares on the belt, and his is able to mimic that (even though I do prefer the belt boxes to be its own usable thing), and like stated before the other rivet on the pauldron is missing. Some of the clone armor pieces also seem to be more angular and pointy, so its edges aren't as rounded as normal clone armor. Might just be copying the game model 1:1 or making it more stormtrooper like in appearance which I kinda like. Also liking all the models you're putting out @jaztermareal! Keep up the good work2 points

Took off the ears again to file and sand the edges just so it looks a little cleaner, then repainted the screws since the paint was rubbing off. Visor installed as well. I attached it to the screws sticking out from the ears and side of the helmet Nearly there! Just need frown mesh, either reattach the neck trim or get a new one since it’s a little ripped, then add padding.2 points

Having just done the snaps on my AP set that I am building, there is definitely a learning curve to setting them. As many have recommended, I bought the Tandy snaps as you want quality ones to make sure they hold. I got the 100 pack and likely wasted 10 to 15 when I started with mistakes in setting them, there are lots of videos that show you how. From my experience, don’t hit the snap setting tool too hard as it will bend the snap post and offset the 2 pieces. Make sure you are on a solid surface. I used my garage or basement floor which is concrete. The circular motion with the setting tool is essential to get the snap post to flare out evenly. Just go slow with the hammering. justjoseph has a great resource in the all in one TK Index as Glen and Mario pointed out above.2 points

Nice work. Don’t forget, you can always work on the return edge once the part is glued together. This way, you can try the piece on and see how much you need/want to remove. Also, when you size up the shins, be sure to wear your actual trooper boots - this is key. Many measure without wearing their boots, then find that they’ve not allowed enough room to fit the boots in. [emoji1303]2 points

So quick update before I pack it up ready for the convention this coming weekend. I know it still has some things left I need to work on, but I fixed (or hope I did) most of what you guys suggested to me.2 points

Going to have to replace the knee boxes now. lol. Looks more transitional with your parts and suggestions, Josh/Jazter. Epic. Also got that RotS chest gap thing going on with this mock up that I ripped from a mod by EldeBH. Edited down the Clone belt myself. As for the knee pad, IDK which way I'm going to go about it ATM. I want something that is "lore accurate" or "(prequel)movie accurate". I feel like the game interpretation is more or less nailed down and should get a CRL started up. So ideally a game CRL and a movie inspired look CRL. Quick mock up.2 points

Degial seems to have missed the second fastener/button on the pauldron and there are too many stripes on the black section. Skylu's pauldron (from the Imperial Navy Commander Officer model) has no fastener/button but does have fewer stripes. Both have what I consider great interpretations of the backpack. EDIT: just noticed that Degial made the middle button on the belly square, when it should be round. otherwise it looks correct to my eyes. Don't feel bad about not having finished painting helmet let alone full armour, I have yet to make anything physical (recently became a dad so I can't have resin fumes from 3D printer in the room for time being and I do not have an FDM printer yet so for now all I can do is try to self learn CAD in the little spare I have and dream of making the 1:6 phase 3 clone figure I have wanted for so long. I won't even consider a costume until have that done.2 points

Loving the details in this thread. You will find like many of the Stormtrooper game variants that some things are allowable due to not being able to source items exactly how is shown in reference/game images, but in this case making the files from scratch should definitely make this a screen accurate build and hopefully an easy run to a new CRL.2 points

looking over Degial Nox's model I think the belt boxes not quite right but overall I think it is pretty damn accurate. At first I thought his left knee pad was wrong as I think game devs intended it to be standard clone knee but in looking at reference pics I think the way it was by modeled Degial Nox is actually correct. He also got something else correct that I think I got wrong: the number of knee boxes (I thought it was 5 based on pics I used for reference, seems it was actually 6). no big deal as I should probably remake it anyway (my knee box model was remixed using existing 3d models before I learned to CAD, now I should be able to make a new one from scratch) Regarding gap between the chest and belt, Degial's seems to be correct to the game but I would love a ROTS style option2 points

A quiet man, Hans was always one to step up and help out fellow Troopers however he could. He opened his heart and home to those of us in the New England; allowing Troopers to spend the night after a long days troop, offering to carpool with Troopers to and from events, and perhaps most importantly, pitching in when the NEG crafted a special armor kit for a young man we learned of through Make-A-Wish. The Legion was a creative extension of Hans' desire to help those less fortunate: in his home state of New Hampshire, Hans was active with groups that sought to assist Veterans and the homeless, and volunteered with the New Hampshire Special Olympics. US - Fieldmarshal (blasterfactory) - mostly metal parts Canada - Quest Designs - resin kit UK - TroopaCoola (JMC) - metal and resin (cast from original parts) On the other hand 3D prints seem to be the wave of the future. I for one say HUZZAH! There are some truly fantastic files out there to use (many are FREE) to either print your own or have a friend (or online service) do so. Building a 3D printed weapon or accessory can actually be a lot of fun, and something to do when you need to take a break from your armor build. BUT, please be aware that whatever type of item you are building must meet our standards when applying for higher levels of approval. In order to maintain screen accuracy, any 3D printed item submitted for Expert Infantry/Centurion approval cannot have visible print lines present. This will apply to all costumes, and has been added to the CRLs for each as a Level 2 (EI) requirement. Wh-wh-WHAT? Is this a new thing? Nope. I just see it as an E-11 but because it's an old low poly game it's oversized. I chuck it as a game limitation/oversight/graphical issue for that period of game development. Considering how the Phase 3 is vastly Clone inspired as is, it leans in towards the Stormtrooper aspect more if you go with the E-11 and balances out more. "It's like poetry, it rhymes".1 point

As for the eventual 1:6 figure (when I can finally 3D print again... some day) I am still thinking about what blaster I would use. If going by what looks good and is correct for the very early Empire, I think standard clone DC15S would look good or the ROTS DC15-X (the DC15 A/S hybrid from the 501st temple march during order 66) but obviously neither blaster was used by the Phase 3 clones in TFU so it would not be accurate. Inaccurate but cool. If going by game devs intention then ANH style E-11 is likely accurate to what they intended but doesn't match the in game look since the game model blasters were HUGE. That leads me to the 3rd and most game accurate option: An oversized E-11 (call it early Empire proto-E11) in which case I could probably just use the oversized E-11 blasters from my old 90's Kenner 12 inch figures since they were suitably massive. It would give them new life: instead of obsolete oversized "parts box" filler they would be TFU proto E-11's. What are the opinions of all ye?1 point

repurposed the shoulder straps that came with the kit. Going to attach to the shoulder bell with Velcro to start with, and left some webbing to put the snap through on the other end. Glued in some elastic for the strap around the bottom. left side reverts are ready to glue in place, once I’m happy with the seam and any paint I end up using on the off colored shims…1 point

1. What are general opinions of doing inner cover strips? I used to add them but really found they are only needed on pieces that take any strain, the shins as you are constantly opening and closing so I recommend adding them there on the inner front. 2. When people talk about adding some padding inside the armor pieces, are they talking about foam? Yes normal foam, I have them in my arms pieces and thighs, darn these skinny arm's and legs 3. If I end up getting the forearms glued, and the part by the wrist still isn't quite oval-shaped enough, is this something a hot water bath will help with or do I need to really make sure it's perfect before gluing it all? Personally I find it easier to use heat once all the cover strips are added. I use a heat gun BUT you need some practice, you can go too hot too quickly hence why many use a hot water bath.1 point

Hello and welcome to the forum, hopefully you will eventually see your armor. As posted above most go with a 3D printed blaster. Although we don't support recasting but as Anovos is no longer a company, there is someone who did take a mold of the Anovos F-11D and is currently selling resin ones , he has a thread here for his E-11's so you may want to contact him via that thread or on one of the FOTK build groups on Facebook Imperial Supply Drop.1 point
