  1. Cleaning up the drop boxes. I lost one of the back boxes but I've contacted Mark at AP and he's getting me new back boxes and belt buttons. E6000 on the shims so I can attach them to the chest which needs a bit more sanding on the edges. But, it's some progress. Snaps should be here today.

  3. Hi All. Thanks for admitting me to the forums. A bit about how I got here. Having "patrolled" during lockdown '20 as a poorly suited Vader with other superheroes to put smiles on trapped kids faces I decided it was finally time for some upgrades and go the full 9 yards to Vader. Rubies suit bought and used a few times, I know I know, then the 501st started to call. Having realised how long a journey that is going (and is being) to be to get clearance a Storm Trooper then would be another long road so maybe in a few years. Others advised an officer so I started to look down the officer route to get out trooping. Just as I did a fully cleared, full RWA Sand Trooper appeared on the RWA FB page. Now usually suits are nowhere near sized correctly for anyone other than the original builder and get parted out and at 6 feet 4, UK based I'd no chance. But no, the ad said built for a slim 6'4 with size 12's in the UK, no way, that's Me! A few measurements over t'internet and boom it was bought, paid and shipped within the week. Just in time for Halloween. Chucked number 1 son 6'2 size 11's and it fitted him like a glove for the night. Fits me the same way. So now I'm looking to get cleared in it and get out trooping. Still can't get the grin off our faces with how it fits, it never happens, but it has. Dream to reality in 5 days. Vader will take a while but that's ok it's what I was expecting and there can be only one. Troopers welcome one and all. I'm hoping to get out a lot in Sandy whenever possible and I hope to meet a lot of you on the way. Andy

  9. Hi Ben and welcome aboard. If you have just been approved at basic level, you should request 501st clearance so you can see more sections of our forums. Here is where you can do that. As to actual trooping, you can decide to stay in character and act just like an imperial Stormtrooper would, some like to be more entertaining for the kids, or put on an ascent to sound like the TK's in the movies etc. It really depends on the troop itself as some require you remain in charecter, others like Conventions etc, do not. Take cues off your fellow troopers, see how they are acting and follow suit. One thing is for certain, you will never forget your first troop, it is exhilarating, to say the least. Some find themselves overwhelmed and shed a tear because it has been a life long dream to take something from child hood and turn it into a reality. I wish you the greatest of satisfaction on your first official troop, and becoming an active member of the FISD community. Congratulations Trooper.

  10. For getting rid of any ripples I use two blocks of wood, heat a small area at a time and use a piece of wood either side, you can run them back and forth too for larger heated areas. Some have made wooded plugs so the piece can rest against it and use a small block of wood on the other side, same principle but on a larger scale.

  11. A set of magnet boxes arrived from Eric @Scimitar as seen in his build. THIS might be a link to the correct post. It's a set of little 3D printed boxes with rare earth magnets embedded inside and separated by a thin sheet of ABS to give them easier opening. Nothing special? Or something very special? I'm super jazzed to have them!!! This was 95% of the work - getting the torso halves aligned to my liking, taped in that correct alignment (on the down side just barely wrapping around to the inside), and the magnet boxes lined up correctly with the seem. Maybe I could have done the boxes separately, but what fun is that? All at once is much more fun. Aligned, glued, and clamped. And there they sat for 3 days. ... well.... 12 hours. I opened them after 12 hours. But I just HAD to see if the boxes and armor aligned nice, the armor opened and closed, and I didn't have to redo it. and then they actually really did sit with the clamps on for 2.5 more days. Really. It was hard to not tinker with things during the long drying time. And I didn't! The alignment was dead on!!! Top, bottom, sides. Just right. A little bit of excess glue seeped between the magnets and needed removal. That was the extent of the extra work. Just perfect. The armor snaps onto my body with a satisfying magnet-click. And it's aligned perfectly. This makes those 2 torso snaps wayyyy easier to find and snap. There's a troop coming next weekend. This armor will get some use soon!!! And then I'll think about EIB cert.

  12. Super blessed to have these guys as my friends. They answered the call to give me a hand with some of the ANH TK moulds. Big thanks to Dylan, Geoff, Brent, Mitch and Aneesh for helping out today. What I thought would take a few weeks took only a day! We got most of the moulds plastered, still need to do the thighs and the belt moulds but we'll on the way to getting it done soon. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
