  2. Coming along nicely. You may find the abs gives a grey/white appearance where ever it has been trimmed, I found a black colored polish at the local automotive shop, you may have something similar in your neck of the woods, there are also revitalizer polishes for black bumpers which may also work.

  3. Well, Im not sure if its me, but I cont seem to post on the "Sound Off" topic (it may be my phone, but I can post here)... I was recently approved (ANH stunt TK) in the middle of moving from WV (Garrison Corellia) to SC (Carolina Garrison). Been working on my build for over 3 years off and on... Thanks to James Welsh (WVtrooper) for his patience and encouragement!

  4. Thanks! Well, I searched the weapons section for T-21 and scoured through 3-4 pages of posts. No 3D print builds found so far. I think I might be on my own with this one. But the reference photos of what goes where should be enough to help and I’ll get a WIP going once it arrives too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Nice work trooper, a couple of things mentioned in your previous EI feedback: The size and shape of your large ab button plate is as close to screen accurate as you can get, but the 4 button plate could use some trimming. I would also think about cleaning up the paint on the buttons a little bit to give you a more polished look. A few other suggestions before the DO's get here: You could trim the larger rear tab off your shoulder straps. This is not specifically mentioned in the CRL, but removing them is highly recommended if possible. Appears you may have some excess paint on your gums; Frown is painted gray and does not leave the teeth area. Black lines around the ear bumps could be slightly thinner Although it appears you have adjusted the forearms since your EI application they still appear a little large at the elbow when you compare to your biceps, especially noticeable from on the rear. Could also rotate the TD so you can see the O detail Also appears you still have a slight gap between the kidney and butt plate Plastic belt corners should meet the fabric belt: The corners of the plastic ammo belt shall be trimmed at a 45 degree angle that that meets the outer edge of the cloth belt. The rivet on the inner side thigh ammo strip appears higher and should be centered on the lower ridghe: These are just suggestions, it is entirely up to the DO's what they would like addressed Good luck with approval trooper

  8. Hi troopers, The painting process has begun. A grey primer for pretty much all parts, to start. Then, on parts that were originally made of metal, a metallic silver undercoat: Below, a mixture of grey primed parts and the silver bolt. The scope also had a grey primer, then a coat of Humbrol Brass 54 More parts with metallic silver applied. I’m still trying to decide on Crinkle black paint for the barrel and stock or not?? I’m told that the screen used blasters would have had a crinkled texture - very hard to see good enough quality reference photos. More to come soon. :-)

  11. Life got me a little more than expected this week but some more work was accomplished. I'll get some pictures posted this weekend. Shot 1 of the Covid vaccine pretty much laid me out where I didn't want to touch it for 2 nights. Lessons learned: Asymmetrical armor can drive a person crazy. Return edges are different. Curves are different. Lengths are different. When it comes to shape, the helmet feels like a completely different design between the right and left! AGH!!!! This is definitely more of an art project than an engineering project and I am NOT artistic. That said, the armor wouldn't have the same character if it were symmetrical so I'm glad it is done this way. 20 large magnets is nowhere near enough. I should have picked up 60. One forearm is finished but I didn't have enough magnets to do both at the same time. Tonight I will glue the 2nd forearm and get it done. Everything is cut and ready, just waiting to free up some magnets. When trimming teeth, you can't match EVERY reference photo. There are a lot of variations in them. Pick one you like the best and follow it. Then DO NOT compare it to other reference photos. I have to fight the urge to file the teeth into oblivion! My goal for the weekend is to trim the shoulders at which point only the strapping is left on the arms. I want to start painting the helmet and also get the rivet holes drilled. My intention is to use bolts to hold the helmet together during the build so it can be easily taken apart but then use pop rivets when the helmet is complete.

  12. Updates: Reglued thigh cover strip as above. Hellhounds blaster ordered, as above. Adjusted various strapping and helmet height. Tweaked the kidney shim to ab join height. Re-sewed portion of belt, changed Velcro attachment, adjusted height. The right side has a wrinkle that I’ll work on removing, but it’s not under nearly as much tension. Moved drop boxes out and up. I know there’s a bit of rotation between pieces like the ab and chest in this pic. I have a leg length discrepancy with some pelvic tilt and a touch of scoliosis from that.

  13. I actually did notice that around the trim area. Thanks for the advice. I have black shoe polish. I might try that out on a piece.

  14. I have been pondering the way to get the wires from the power connection in the grip up to the LED in the side of the Visor Rail. The Visor Rail will be installed after the Slide and Frame assembly is inserted into the Shell... However, it dawned on me, nothing can be be sticking up from the top of the Slide when you insert the assembly into the Shell assembly. and the location of the light source is not directly over the grip space either. so just pushing something up through the a hole from the grip space, isn't an option... this is where things end up under the Visor Rail I modified... at the back of the slide. I have a couple ideas.... more to come when I have time....

  17. I wasn't really happy with the speakers from Tony, so I disassembled my old overear headphones and put these into the helmet instead, to get the perfect SHA experience. The SHA itself and everything else I got from Tony works perfectly well, just the speakers aren't really great.

  18. Thanks for all the detailed feedback. My day job will be busy for the next week or two, but I’ll work on incorporating these fixes. Update 23 March: Hellhounds E-11 blaster ordered Right thigh rear cover strip removed & reglued.

  19. Nice work, apart from what has already been stated, you have a few gap issues on the butt plate (also touching thighs) and between back plate and kidney. Also drop boxes are a little low and not aligned with the ends of the plastic belt. Velcro can be seen on the rear next to the TD. If you look from the side the plastic belt section is appears to being pulled down compared to your fabric belt and its bunching were they meet. Also looks like your blaster is a basic Rubies which will need to be replaced for L2 or L3 A few tweaks will make you look top notch.

  20. Nice work on this armor, Jason! I think you should be fine for Basic approval (depending on your GML) but if I could make a few suggestions, they would be: Your bucket seems to be riding pretty high and should "ideally" sit a bit lower. Padding in the top is not a requirement for any level, and removing it may help you see better as it will lower the eye openings. Plus, you should not be able to see the interior of the bucket (blue arrows). Just a few strapping adjustments that will improve your look.. 1. Right shoulder bell could be moved in a bit to match the left one. 2. Forearms should be raised. As of now the wrist openings are riding over the tops of the hand guards. 3. ABS belt could come up about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch (1cm). 4. Right thigh could come down to match the left.

  21. Thanks for the feedback. I was 50:50 on cutting back on the caffeine & redoing the rear traps before submission. They were freehand and a little generous on the “hand painted” appearance. That should be a straightforward cleanup. I’m adding glue & clamping the thigh covers right now. The E11 is just bare bones basic; looking for a good rubber blaster for the future. ETA: The Drunken Centipede paint is cleaned. That would be a great name for a pub, wouldn’t it? I incorporated your suggestion, cleaned the traps, and put the updated image in the OP.

Personally, I am excited about events beginning to open up for us again here in Texas, and indeed, across the United States as a whole. There are some big holes in our normal event calendar - no Celebration, or San Diego Comic Con this year - but there are conventions and events beginning to happen. I will be attending ICCC i(Imperial Collector's Comic Convention) n Nashville, Tennessee in just a little over a month - 16-18 April - and am greatly looking forward to traveling and attending a Con, meeting new people, and doing some truly great work for the convention community - I'll have more to share about that statement later though. In the meantime, be sure to engage the Staff if you have questions about anything going on in the Detachment, or just to get to know us better if so inclined. This group is truly inspired by each of you here on the forums, as at one time we too were new, wide-eyed, and afraid to think about cutting ABS. 23. This is from my build, if it helps at all. So this was fresh off the mould, nothing trimmed yet just taped up at the front where I’d cut and left 10mm either side for the CS: Then fitted it and taped it: Measured the overlap marks at the top and bottom: The top measurement is fine, nothing to line up or anything so that’s good to go at 60mm. The bottom, I can’t just cut where it’s marked or the ridge won’t be even, so first I measure the length of each side on that back ridge which was 90mm & 70mm = 160mm So, the length of the ridge (160) minus what I need to remove (55) = 105. That will be the new length of the ridge so divide it by 2 = 52.5. Once I’d measured in 52.5 from the edge on each side and drawn a straight line up to my mark at the top, this is the line I was left with: You can see how it more or less matches the plane of the front seam. Don’t forget, no one is going to see the front and back at the same time so it doesn’t have to be mathematically perfect but as long as it looks straight. From this angle you can see how the seams match and the amount of ridge either side of the back seam is even: I hope this helps and I’m not just flooding your brain! 24. Hi there, Hopefully you don’t mind me jumping in on your thread but I’m only speaking up because I also had trouble with the thighs and shins similar to you. On my build, I actually cut the thighs wrong and had to order a whole new pair [emoji2359] I neglected to make sure that there was an equal distance from the cut at the back to the edge of the knee ridge. Hopefully some pictures will explain. So this was incorrect: You can see where my cuts were and the red line where the cut should’ve been. There was so much of your experience with thighs and shins that were the same as mine, I thought best to make sure you didn’t make the same mistake. Also, making sure you get that cut at the back in the centre of that bottom ridge will help massively with getting the rear cut in line with the front one. I also had the same problem as you when cutting the shins. I found that as much as I tried to get a straight line, clamping straight edges and rulers e.t.c, as soon as I cut - the edges weren’t straight. I thought I was going crazy, I’d always have a kind of bowed effect where there seemed to be loads more excess to trim in the centre. My method was to cut 5-10mm less than I needed to (if your cut line is red, go to green) And then slowly sand from the centre on both sides with lots of stopping to offer the edges up in between. Don’t forget, you have 12mm or so grace so they don’t have to be perfect but this method got me pretty good results. Same with the thighs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
