Hello all. I’m a Biker Scout that is going to moonlight as a TK. Nearly finished with the armor and should be submitting next week. I’m in the Southern California Garrison, LA Squad. Looking forward to not sitting down or seeing. :)3 points

I spray painted the ammo boxes white today, satin on the drop box backs, and gloss everywhere else. After a few coats on the back, I waited 30 minutes and flipped them over. They were still a little sticky. This setup didn't work too well, I should've figured out how to make a bunch of toothpick stands. They have quite a few imperfections that I'll have to touch up, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles... I also wet sanded the putty off the trauma plate with 220. I'll spray gloss white tomorrow and it should be good! Some gentle filing, and the putty still fell into the TD. My buddy had some Bondo fiberglass filler so I mixed some and spread it. After 15 minutes of curing I sanded with 220 and it seems to be holding up! I'm sure it'll take a little putty to blend it smooth, but at least there's no hole! I think I've talked myself into using E6000 to attached the ammo boxes and TD to the belt, unless anyone is opposed. E6000 will allow me to move them around until they're perfect and I can clamp them at both ends. Drilling holes for rivets or screws/nuts won't allow shifting if they don't line up perfectly in the first shot. Velcro and magnetic sheets won't be thin enough to lay flush, and could possibly bump/fall off. I have a few days before I'm worried about it, so I'm fully open to input!1 point

Thank you very much... Submittal pics should be taken monday. I have the aid of a very well versed TK assisting with my build... massively assisting, so confidence os high on the approval process. We arte building with the intent of going for Centurion right after basic approval.1 point

Thank you.... Sitting is overrated. anyway... Who needs to sit when you are trooping? It's all about the smiles we bring.1 point

Thank you... Very happy to be joining the ranks.... Of course being a TK is something we all have wanted since the first frame of them storming into the Rebel Blockade runner hit our eyes... so this is another dream being fulfilled. Plus as recognizable as TK's are, it will add to the efforts of bringing smiles to kids faces... no matter how old they are. :P1 point

ATA pipe dimensions are a lot smaller than most other makes so it can make appearance look out of sink compared to screen refernces1 point

Looking good, does take a little tweaking to get everything space right once you start strapping, you will find it will look a lot different once your sniper plate and thigh ammo strip are attached.1 point

That's a good tip. I'm going to pick up some bondo for those tough parts. I think once I fill those gaps, I'll be about ready to spray paint. ------------------ When I went to attach the D-Ring, the holes at the back of the end cap I think the print goofed and left some plastic on the inside of the hole. So I needed to drill out a bit so I could fit the D-Ring in. No sweat! Good news is, I was able to fit the ring in afterwards! Bad news, it's now as big as a Death Star exhaust port. I guess when the ring is on, it kinda hides this up? Perhaps this is something bondo could solve when I get my hands on some.1 point

Ok, time for an update. Minimal time over the last couple weeks to build, but I've been chipping away a little at a time. Safety first!! TD is mostly completed. As a review, ATA caps are pretty tight fitting on 2" pipe, so I had to slightly taper the ends of the pipe to fit them. I added tape about 20mm from the ends to mark where I need to sand down to. Used a 60g sanding barrel to knock down the outside edges and then followed up with 80g and 180g sanding sponges until I could slide the caps on and off. They're still tight, but not nearly as much as before. When I masked for painting, I made sure the masked areas were a smaller footprint than the TD panel and cap widths. Oh and I lightly sanded the whole pipe with 220g for better paint and glue adhesion. I was going go with Glen's suggestion of using gray primer (already had some in the garage) with gloss clear over it. When I picked up the gloss clear, I went ahead and grabbed the can of paint pictured below as well, just in case. Tested both on the scrap PVC I had leftover, and the primer I had seemed too dark with a slight greenish tint, so I went with the other one. I think the color turned out good, but please let me know if it doesn't look right. I probably should have waited for affirmation on the gray I used, but I kinda jumped the gun and glued things up. Still have to add the clips, but the TD is done aside from those. Now I can't remember the exact measurement, but I believe the total length of the TD is about 7 3/8". So next up, I started to work on my bucket. First up, cutting out the eyes and teeth. No photo, but the ATA face has small grooves on the inside of the eyes where the cuts should be made, so I penciled in those lines to see them better. I then used a Dremel cut-off wheel to cut to about 3-4mm of the lines, then used sanding barrels to grind away to the lines. I found the Dremel flex shaft attachment very useful for this. For the teeth, I used the sanding barrels to start my holes and then used needle files from there. Below is what I have as of now. I think I'm close, but please let me know what you think. I'm thinking I might be able to cut more out of the inside corners of the eyes? And I might be able to cut the tops and bottoms of the teeth closer to the gum lines possibly?1 point

So far its been a pleasure communicating with them. I was able to get a status update today in fact. Helmet is finished. Chest is finished. Back is finished. Remaining pieces are being formed now, and are expected to go to assembly next week. If all goes accordingly, I should have the armor in my possession by my birthday. What a gift!!1 point

i just tested the new pcb board where i replaced the led drivers with 3 small transistors and it was working fine if there wasn't an error on the original scheme (i used a differente transistor schematic) so i have to reprint another stock1 point

didn't get a lot of time to work on the Armor this weekend, but production of my replacement clip greebles is progressing nicely. (I have a bunch of smaller ones on supports I should photo waiting to be cleaned when I get home...) here I show 6 large size and 2 original model size. (that seem to work for the KB small ones perfect) and I bent 2 of them in prep for use on the Spats. these from Rob's model really look very close to the one in the Spat photo Sly11 posted above.1 point
