Update - Lessons Learned: Methods: Heat gun is extremely risky - always keep the heat moving or else things'll warp Heat gun can be used on shims (tow away signs) to soften and contour as well as get a better fit after gluing Sealing iron sock - pressing too hard too early results in waffling. Semi circle file is really useful for smoothing down curved edges. Don't work late at night- a bad brain will result in regrets. Biceps: Left bicep was extremely small, hybrid mix and match left outer + ATA Works inner works very well. Anovos and ATA are really close in color. Shins: Sniper knee requires water bath to get proper fit. Sniper knee with sealing heat iron to form return contour is a good idea. Hello All! I had this ANOVOS kit sitting in my living room(s) (moved once) since 2016 and I'm finally kicked myself in the boot to get started. The ANOVOS booth guy said it'd be approximately 100 man hours to get it built... I'm starting to think he was underestimating... This is my first build ever, please forgive the amount of newbie stench I will be emitting. Shoutout to justjoseph63 for providing some good newbie advice and steering me in the right direction, which includes starting this thread. My build has been in motion for approximately a week now, all parts trimmed out of their molds per UKswraths/uswraths? guide, currently fitting all pieces before any gluing will be done. I'm a guy that likes to go big or go home, like I stated in the title, I'm shooting for Centurion/L3 approval, so hopefully I won't have a troopers accuracy regarding that ; thus, any approvers reading this, please let me know if I made any errors. Forearms Thigh - front Thigh - rear shims Questions - rear thigh shims 1. How does the shim look? Am I messing up? The left thigh shim I think is good, I can trim the splint where I marked with the sharpie, but for the right shim, I planned that I will need to add another splint (shim) to the outer, then glue them with an overlap, that way the overlap will an overlap of shims and be on the inside, then, ABS paste the valley and use a normal sized cover strip. 2. The right thigh seems to be smaller than the left, my right thigh is also bigger than my left. I have big thighs. On the left thigh I can maintain connections between the two side's return edges, but on the right thigh I cannot- I anticipated making a "fake" return edge from ABS paste and scrap, would anyone advise against doing this? 3. I just ordered a Hangar 9 sealing iron and cloth sock to make return edges for the top of the rear thighs - I kind of have a bubble butt, so those will need to be taken down. Would you recommend doing this before or after the thighs have been glued and coverstripped? Calve - front Calve - rear Questions - rear calve shims 1. The inner and outer upper returns don't seem to line up naturally, I plan to trim and shim accordingly to get them to line up, any advice on shimming calves? I don't have enough experience to gauge whether or not I want to use velcro or the bra strap closures. I feel like with the bra strap closures i'll have more athleticism , but i want to be sure the shims will look OK with them. I'll keep updating with more posts - I ran out of 2 inch tape, so I'll need to get some more before I can start fitting again. The 1 inch stuff doesn't hold up to squeezed flesh body pressures. Oh, I already messed up my left bicep trying to shape it with a heatgun - guess I will never do that again. I contacted ATAWorks for a replacement with a right bicep; hopefully I can get that soon.1 point

Hi All! I’ve been getting a lot of offline requests to share how I got TrooperTalk to work really well lately, so I figured it makes sense to create a topic with all my info in one place. I just want to say, I absolutely love TrooperTalk. It took quite a bit to get it to the place where it’s useable for me, but it was well worth it! Now, it’s just not useable, I personally think it’s amazing. Here are the details. FYI, I got an iPhone 5 just for using this (a white one no less). When I troop and am using the background chatter, I have a USB battery plugged into it to extend the use for the entire troop. My settings: I’m using the mic that came with my Aker 1505 (it's better than the more expensive after-market one I bought). I’m sure there’s better out there, but it works really well. Voice volume (in app setting): -20 I have "voice volume threshold" at 0.05. I found that higher than that, as soon as my mic wasn't perfectly positioned my voice wasn't always coming through. I went with a slightly higher static burst volume (-25), especially for louder environments. Lowpass: 1540 Highpass: 2070 Radio Distortion: OFF Compression: 0 Don't play with voice pitch either. Just creates unnecessary distortion and latency (lag): 1.00 Echo Delay: 0 Voice Static: Unchecked So, with these basic settings I think it still sounds really really cool, and more importantly, it's way more usable to me. Easier to understand me, etc. etc. Very importantly, there is no feedback and not even any tinny feedback tones in the voice, when used with proper dampening and mic position. A really nice by-product of having these settings off is that your phone battery will last way longer, and the voice lag is very close to gone. On dampening: In early days, once my helmet was on, it loved to feed back. When I had my mic plugged straight into the Aker, with no helmet on, this wasn't an issue, as those high distortion-y sounding frequencies weren't being pinged so harshly. The sound of the app, mixed with the smooth parabolic surfaces of the helmet's interior are a recipe for feedback disaster. I was able to completely solve the feedback only with a 3-pronged approach of app settings, sound dampening inside the helmet and mic position. The dampening setup: Instead of hanging the Aker amp around my neck, I velcro'd it to the chest, at the speaker side. So, the velcro is directly over the speaker. I put a bit of foam inside the chest plate, just below the neckline, blocking sound from coming up through the neck and into the helmet. I bought 1/4" x 3/4" x 10' insulating foam tape, and I covered all the surfaces of the inside of my helmet, from about the temples down. Even the foam surface will be uneven with lines going different ways for extra dampening. Remember to cover ALL of the surface in the front of the helmet around the vocoder…even the rounded ones, cavities etc. The only place I didn’t dampen, was the top, rounded crown of the helmet. I found it wasn’t necessary, and I didn’t want any insulation up there to hinder the fans keeping my helmet cool. One more tiny but very important bit of feedback…even with total helmet dampening, when I have it loud, there will be a little tiny bit of tinny feedback in the voice when my mic is put directly in front of my mouth. However, when I have the mic a little bit off to the side of my mouth there's absolutely none. Solid as a rock. With voice static and/or radio distortion on, there's still more tinny feedback tone than I'm comfortable with. However, I find that it still has pretty close to the same quality of distortion through the app and the tone of the voice that I'm looking for, without them. I don't hear a lot of "stormtrooper quality" voice gained by either of those two features to even think about justifying the noise that comes with them. I'm very happy with the sound of the voice! Trooped with this, outdoor, in a very loud setting with kids, with my Aker cranked yesterday. No issues. Everyone understood me. Used 10% iPhone battery in 1.5 hours. Thanks again to Andrew for such an amazing app, and for those who’ve also helped by testing the settings and got back to me with their feedback!1 point

It is my esteemed privilege to congratulate and welcome you to the 501st Legion Badlands Garrison TK -17997! Beautiful work Trooper!1 point

I cut mine at the line, never a fan of the g-string feel when walking with that extra material. With the snaps, they will bow down with the pressure from the front cod and the elastic band pulling. My build, will still trim the outside returns for comfort.1 point

On my build, not that I have finished, I cut about 5mm or so, from your line, that way you can keep the illusion of a return by reducing the inside curves to match it. That being said, I have been reducing the returns on my build to improve flexibility in the parts, so the 5mm may become less. If you look through my build, it may make more sense.1 point

Yep, go with the paint. Your stencil work on the traps and tears is great.1 point

Thought I should share an update here today: helmet paint will be finished tomorrow, and I have decided to move away from the original bracket strapping and do a button strapping instead which seems to be quite popular with essentially every legion member I have ever talked to, so yeah.. onto some more trimming and glueing, and then I can finally go into strapping more which will be the final step on my way to becoming a trooper1 point

One can find some great stuff in the junk box/bucket at these hardware stores. It’s like finding gold! I dig it!1 point

A bit more progress on painting the helmet today... Right tear: Right trap: Left trap: Left tear: Can see on this one that I will need to do a little touch up with gray. But that is it as far as I'm concerned! I used the templates from TrooperBay and they worked very well. The left tear was most difficult to fit, but overall these worked excellently...unless you all say otherwise that is. I also finished the ears: Free handed and I'm completely satisfied with how they turned out. Now a question. My AP kit came with decals for the tube stripes. I also have a template from TrooperBay that I can use. The template I bought is very uniform and straight. The decal has a less uniform appearance. Here's a side-by-side: Decal on the left, template right. I'm interested in opinions on which is better. I'm building ANH Stunt, if that makes any difference. I'm leaning towards the template because I like the idea of having everything painted, but I welcome others opinions. Any difference as far as Centurion approval goes?1 point

Welcome to the FISD! Below, in the next 3 posts, you will find the lists of our Imperial Attachés. These are respected folks who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and have been selected to welcome you to the world of shiny white armor! They are volunteers whose duties (in part) are to assist you on a local level to achieve your goal of joining the 501st Legion as Imperial Stormtroopers. Not all Garrisons, Squads, or Outposts may have them, in which case you should refer to the one that is closest. If you wish to contact your local Attaché regarding local events, activities, etc., you can PM (personal message) them here by simply clicking on their highlighted screen name, (example: @justjoseph63) Please note that again, these are volunteers, and may not be able to get back to you immediately, but if you have trouble getting in touch with someone, please feel free to contact @Nairy via PM. If you are a 501st approved Trooper who wishes to join the ranks of the Attachés, please get in touch with @Nairy and/or visit http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/15252-fisd-attaché-program/ Each Garrison is shown in ORANGE.
