  3. Congratulations! That sounds like a fantastic start already!
  4. Right? It's always a great opportunity to catch up and do some silly stuff! [66] 28.03.2024 -- Retirement at the Airbase Jagel A long time member of our local airbase got discharged and sent into retirement. Since he's been at the airbase for decades and was well loved, it was decided to celebrate the occasion in a special way. He's a huge fan of StarWars and so they invited us to visit him on his last day at the base. But before that, us troopers got shown around the base. We got an in-depth explanation of the Tornado aircraft -- it's design, variants, roles and history -- and were even allowed to sit in one for a quick picture and to ask some detailed questions. Truly a crazy feeling to be sitting on the pilot seat, knowing just what the aircraft is capable of. The mechanics were just as excited to show us everything as we were to see everything, so we almost ended up missing lunch. Never let it be said that they aren't great hosts! The food was good, even if we had to rush. Then it was time for us to show up during the ceremony. We observed during the whole ceremony, listened to the speeches, saluted the retiring member one last time -- and were, of course, available for pictures with both him and everyone else who was interested. After everyone had gotten their pictures and most people had left, they had handed over the check of money they had collected for charity for this event. One of my shortest troops yet, but nevertheless a really interesting one! TK-66744 signing off

  6. Can't wait to see this one finished. Looks great.
  7. Work and life have been much busier than I anticipated, so I haven't been able to make much progress on my Legacy, despite my goal of having most of the armor complete by a major convention the last weekend of April. I made the best of the situation and made the little progress I could and accepted that I would use the con to test out as much of the armor as I could. As this armor requires many alterations for me, I do not want to rush anything and make mistakes! I was able to wear most of the armor to Indy PopCon on Saturday (April 27th), and even though I had an incomplete set of armor, I amazed and impressed my fellow members of Star Wars Indiana! I was pleasantly surprised myself as I pulled it off better than I had anticipated! Here are a few photos! As my helmet is not complete, I went with a wig and some makeup to complete the look! And we were able to get a photo with Xavier Jimenez (Tusken Chieftain from The Mandalorian)! As can be seen in the photos, major things to complete are the lower leg armor, the helmet, and the belt boxes. I also wore different boots than what would be approvable (I didn't want to worry about such a tall heel during this con). Many, many more details need to be completed as well. I need to add shims and apply ABS paste to the sides of the thighs, the forearms, and parts of the top strap of the chest armor. My biceps and shoulder bells need to overlap a bit more, so adjusting those straps will be necessary. There is a tiny bit of a visible gap between the top of the abdominal plate and the bottom of the chest plate, so more strapping needs to be secured (I had previously put 3 straps on the interior of this area, but only secured 2 of the straps as I wondered if that would be enough. Well...looks like all 3 need to be secured when I wear this). Also, as there is a visible gap between the abdominal and kidney plate I will want to extend those edges to close that gap. Fortunately, I knew most of these issues before doing the test at the con, so few of these corrections to make were unanticipated. Work continues!
  8. Congrats Chris, and welcome to the ranks! Being behind the helmet is so cool, isn't it?! And by the way, do you have plans to submit your armor for Expert Infantry?
  9. http://www.starwarshelmets.com Is a great place to see the differences of the original helmets. No one really knows how the ROTJ came about. The ROTJ armour is the same as the ESB mk2. But ESB mk2 was made in pinseal/haircell abs and ROTJ was made in smooth. The helmets however look different to each other. It is thought that they made a few suits in ESB for background shots (one spotted in the freezing chamber scene) and for promotional work. Hence ESB mk2. I believe these were then remoulded and the ROTJ were made. I could be wrong but that makes more sense timeline wise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The old moulds from the first film had started to collapse, hence the wonky helmet. I believe other parts were re moulded off existing kits as opposed to the old moulds, hence integrated ab buttons and those smaller details. The back and kidney plates were separate in ANH and ESB, yet a single piece on RotJ which points towards those parts moulded together. Additional edge trim was also added, not sure on the factual why, but it certainly could have covered cracking edges on re-used parts. They also sped up the assembly of the limbs by overlapping the edges for construction, where the ANH/ESB were done using a butt joint method. We have an armour maker that visits the forums @sskunky, he is very well versed in RotJ and can probably offer far more accurate information than I have provided.
  11. Why is Return of the Jedi armor different?
  12. Congratulations and welcome to the ranks trooper If you wish you could start a trooping record, you can request awards at certain levels, info here A few links may be worth a read: https://databank.501st.com/databank/TrooperSurvivalGuide Looking forward to seeing more of your trooping photos
  13. Feedback from EIB was too lower the forearms, but I didn't mean to drop the biceps. I think getting them sitting properly should solve the forearms issue, but I'll be mindful of that when dressing next. In between would be great, I went back and looked at your other photos I tried getting my shins lower. I really couldn't. I have very large feet (size 14), and my feet really slope a long way. In this shot, the shins are basically digging in the top of my feet. The only way to get the to sit lower would be to trip the bottom of the shins (making a bit more of an arc). I might try a hot water bath to re-shape them a bit first. My shoes are not close to coming out when I walk, so I guess I'm wondering, do you think it's a CRL issue for the shins, or just a practicality issue with the boots? Shouldn't be an issue, wasn't mentioned at EIB so I'd go with them see if anything is said. I think you would have to increase the circumference, really only way would be to add larger cover strips, but as I say see what is said. For the butt, I'll see if I can tighten that up a bit The Han snap was placed with measurements from our armorer, as long as it's not an issue, I may try to submit with it rather that take out the snap and relocate. I didn't enjoy doing that with we misplaced our rivets. Obviously, I'll move it if I need to in order to get it right. I think you should be ok, may be mentioned I will address the drop-box issue. Sometimes it's fine. I usually just give them a bit of a tug, and they are ok, but I'll try to lengthen the straps a bit For the thighs, again, I was following our armorer instructions (he uses a spray paint can to make the shape) and said he does that for Centurion, which is why I did it this way. I will try to add a but of an edge to it. Curve on lower corner is current, just the top rivet corner should be sharp BUT I think you should be ok I've been having issues with the calves. I'm wondering if I cut them on an angle of something. Would I be able to put a shim piece behind them to bridge that gap from behind? I have a small piece of plastic glued on one side behind mine, works well and can no longer see a gap Been struggling with the TD clips. I will try to improve them for sure I'm worried if I curve the shoulder bells, it would actually make them look farther away. I have a big chest, and closing that gap has been my biggest concern. Biggest worry is that if I cut it, I can't go back. No issues, not everyone does them, won't stop approval
  14. Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate all your help and attention to this. I will work on these things. I'll make some observations below. Feel free to chime in on these if you have any insights. Feedback from EIB was too lower the forearms, but I didn't mean to drop the biceps. 16. Hi all, very excited to finally join the ranks of the 501st and the FISD! Childhood/lifelong dream realised! My local garrison (Knightfall, Melbourne) has been so helpful and welcoming. I also got approved at a great time of year - within two weeks of approval, I've participated in three troops and loved every second of it. My first ever interaction with a 501st member was several years ago when A New Hope was playing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. My wife (who usually despises Star Wars) absolutely loved it too! I thought getting a photo with a Stormtrooper was the coolest thing ever. It turns out BEING the Stormtrooper was so much more fun. I could not wipe the smile off my face the entire night! The MSO was back in Melbourne for screenings of ROTJ and I was lucky enough to troop on two of the nights, plus another Disney approved event at a shopping centre over the weekend. I couldn't get over the smiles on the kids' (and some very big kids) faces. Made my day. I've got a few more events on this week and learning some good tips from other troopers as I go. Thanks to everyone for your encouragement and feedback throughout the build process. Here's some pics. Please excuse the awkwardly placed shoulder bells. They've since been adjusted.
  17. Small differences between ANH to ESB, swapping out some parts and you can get approved in both. ROTJ is a completely different helmet and armor. This spreadsheet may help: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10tEVteIreh6AHMogW010cuH_Bf8TBfU6/view
  18. Looking good, just watch alignment of parts, hand plates hitting your forearms, I would bring them up a little, in fact your biceps should come upwards too, your right arm the bicep is almost all the way out of your shoulder, which you can also see on the rear. Shins are a little high on your boots, you may find the boots poke out when walking, having elastic or nylon inside can help. Posterior just pushing back a little in this image, looks though that you have quite a few preventative attachment's inside the armor though. Han snap is a little low and a little close to the end, BUT a precise position is not mentioned in the CRL: A single male snap on the top right corner of the ab plate is present. Your drop boxes are overlapping the belt, you may want to lengthen the elastic a little so they sit better. Shouldn't have a rounded top corner but not mentioned previously Small gap top of the back of the calves, try to get them to close fully You can also see a lot of bracket on your detonator, note the TD should sit more central to the belt, references bellow You can also add a curve to your shoulder bells (if you wish too) can sit closer to the chest Some of the above may not get mentioned so don't stress just try to address the gaps and positions of pieces and you should be good to go.
