Asking for FISD members help

vicsouders

Recommended Posts

Recently there has been some discussion regarding an ebay seller who is basically brokering the sale of armor between Shepperton Studios and the auction winner for high dollars. (link: ). I think we all agree this is shady and disgusting. JoeR and I have both bought the “service” to prevent the sale to the unaware. However, I have to say to everyone: I don’t recommend doing this!

We, as a group, have more power than individuals trying to help. I have drafted a short letter template and (with permission of ADMIN) am posting it here. I have listed several ebay policies the sellers postings ignore; however, there may be others. I would ask the members of the FISD to report this seller to ebay in an attempt for ebay to take corrective action. Please feel free to make any changes you believe are necessary.

Thanks!

Edit: added number 4 below.

To Whom It May Concern:

As a member of the world’s largest costuming club dedicated to Star Wars and as a member of a subgroup who’s activities are limited to Stormtroopers, I feel I must report e-bay seller sandtroopertd999. His listings are inappropriate because he is simply selling a website address which is easily found by using any internet search engine. As such, the service he provides has no value. His activities are similar to the person who wishes to sell a “copper embossed portrait of former US President Abraham Lincoln” for $100.00 and when the package arrives it contains a US 1 cent coin. It is morally unconscionable and a scam.

More specifically, this seller violates certain policies in place by ebay to protect the ebay community:

1. The information he is selling is in digital format. It is listed in the proper category; however it is not in the Classified Ad format as required. (policy: <a href="http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html)" target="_blank">http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html)</a>

2. His listing does not state that “you legally own the content (sometimes called intellectual property) or you are authorized to sell it by the owner, the owner’s authorized agent, or the law.” (policy: <a href="http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html)" target="_blank">http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html)</a>

3. He has not written his own description of the item, but has lifted it off the website for which her purports to sell the information. (policy: <a href="http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/image-text.html)" target="_blank">http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/image-text.html)</a>

4. The picture posted is not of the item he sells and does not belong to the seller.

I ask that you please review this sellers pages and take the appropriate action.

Thank you,

I should add: ebay is pretty secretive about e-mail addresses. The only way I was able to “write” to it was through:

http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?C...extGen&tb=1

Under Select your topic: Rules &reporting violations

Next box (center): Reporting a member

Lower: How can I report a member who is breaking the rules?

THEN, you can finally click on(right) “Contact us directly for assistance”.

I received a response to this today from eBay...

"Thank you for writing eBay to report sandtroopertd999's listings to us.

260534241247 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

260534742252 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

260536084605 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

260541213089 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

260541215850 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

260541785065 Storm Trooper Costume Discover the Real McCoy

I have thoroughly investigated the reported listings, and have confirmed

that the items were not in violation of an eBay policy. While the

listings do not violate any of eBay's immediate policies, it may be that

the listings infringe on the intellectual property rights of the rights

owner associated with the product featured in the listings. Rights

owners can have items which they feel infringe on their intellectual

property rights removed through the eBay Verified Rights Owner (VeRO)

program. When participants in our Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program

notify us that a listing has violated their intellectual property

rights, by law we have to remove that listing.

As this is the case, we encourage you to contact the rights owner when

you come across an item that you believe may infringe on their

intellectual property rights.

You'll find a list of rights owners and contact information, as well as

information about infringing items, in the VeRO Program About Me pages.

To view the list, please go to:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/vero-aboutme.html

For future reference, using the "Report Item" link on the listing page

makes it much easier to report potentially violating listings to eBay in

the shortest amount of time.

Thank you for your efforts which help keep the eBay Community safe!

Sincerely,

Aidan

WOW! Add to that the fact that the listing wasn't in the correct format and he WAS violating ebay's terms. I received something to the effect of "Thanks, but the listing has ended, please report it earlier next time."; or something like that.

So, thanks for all the help troopers! I'll keep an eye out for a while on what this guy is "selling." If it pops up again we can hammer him hard.

He's at it again! Wow, this guy has large coconuts! http://cgi.ebay.com/Storm-Trooper-Costume-...d#ht_843wt_1129

I'm going to use the Report Now button. (Notice, he changed the photo since I contacted him...anyone know who this is?)

Looks like he created a new profile to leave himself good feedback. http://myworld.ebay.com/starwarsprops2010

This account was created a few days before he left good feedback for http://myworld.ebay.com/sandtroopertd999/

And it's not even SDS armor. Biggest problem with the picture is that it's pre FISD, and in 2006 most everyone had FX kits.

Even if you can read the number its probably a stolen pic anyway. Did you notice he got good feedback from a guy saying he got his armor delivered and it was top notch  From a user with only a feedback score of 1. Doesn't take a genious to figure that one out.....scumbag :duimomlaag:

BUT he "bought" it for GBP 0.99 :) (to avoid ebay fees).

Now, the starting bid is GBP 500! :)

Please, somebody stop him!!!!

Looks to me like TK1536 or 1538 found it its 1336 http://tk1336.com/... just a thought here has anyone told AA about this ??? i know hes not highly thought of but he may be able to put a stop to this as its his property/name being used

Ive just looked at the above website and that same picture is there but on the site its edited so either its the same person (site looks like a U.S 501st member while listing is in the U.K) or the person listing on evilbay has at some point had a copy of the true TK1336's pictures unedited.

Update: I reported the latest auction to ebay for violating terms. I also reported him for manipulating feedback. And, I did write to info@sdsprops.com to let those guys know.

As of this morning the latest sale has been removed! The feedback has been restored and the fake reports removed! Andrew wrote to thank me, but by the time he received the mail the item had already been removed from the sale.

I think this guy is probably done for a while. Thanks everyone for all of your help! :salute: I can't tell you how satisfying it is to know some poor schmuck won't be taken in by this scam. Hopefully, people interested in Stromtrooper armor will find their way to the FISD instead of spending big money to be directed to the SDS website.

Hello Aaron,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about the member

"sandtroopertd999" selling digitally delivered items on the site. We

take reports of members who break our rules very seriously.

I've taken the appropriate action and can confirm that the items are no

longer on the site.

In future, to help us investigate more quickly, you can use the 'Report

this item' link at the right-hand side of the item page or you could

forward us the user id of the member.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention and for helping us to

keep eBay a safe place to buy and sell. Please let us know if we can be

of further assistance.

Kind regards,

Greg Geer
