Reaper's ANH -Stunt- build, ATA (Hopefully to centurion level)

I have found sometimes a little more heat is needed and had to use a heat gun, not something you want to do without first practicing on some scraps.

I actually cut mine half straight and half on an angle just so it covered better, if straight there would have been a nice corner to dig in to me .

A few from the gallery section

Awesome that helps a lot!

Question on this edge for the body. Back and butt in picture. Just wondering if I should remove the material until it is smooth or leave the very edge so it rounds off?

Another thing. So these are the backs of my legs. Just wondering if I will need to heat form them to get them more closed, or will the Velcro be good enough to hold them together?

I did take off the rounded area of those pieces

Some screen used for comparison

Also had to hit the shins with some heat, Velcro itself wouldn't keep them closed when they are that open to start with.

I have begun work on the sniper knee. I’m about finished with it.

I don’t see any issues with this part. Im just going to do some more sizing before I glue it in place.

The only part I’m still not 100% sure is if I should trim much more off this side of the sniper knee?

This side has much more material so I will just trim it down to match the other side.

I am wondering if I should remove all of this material from the top and bottom of the kidney plate, besides a small return edge.
Also is there a top or bottom to the kidney plate? I assume not but I would rather be safe then sorry.

Kidney will be straight at the bottom but have an upwards slope at the top where it meets the ab/cod. You can definitely remove some of that return but make sure you keep some!

I am needing to trim down the ab and kidney to get a better fit as I am a skinny trooper.
I plan to put the seem where the green line is and add the 22mm notch at the bottom so I can trim down the butt plate more.
I drew on where I think I should be trimming. Let me know if this looks wrong for any reason.d1ae17b7925d5cdab07bd5b1e34b3203.jpg

Hey John.  My understanding is that the kidney notch isn't required for approval - if that makes things easier. If it is present, the only requirement is that it is 22mm high.

But yeah, your plan to trim looks ok to me. If you are worried about taking too much off the butt plate, it looks like you could take a bit more off the ab - but it is hard for me to tell from the pics (and I'm not experienced with ATA).

The build is looking good!

So my ab to kidney doesn’t match up on both sides the same.
My right side is almost flush with each other.

Where as on my left side, the kidney is longer by a decent amount.

I know this will be covered mostly by the belt. But it still bothers me. Just looking for advice as to what may help this to look the best?
So far my only idea is to cut the kidney notch and hope that makes it less noticeable

Tried on the entire suit today to get a idea for the fit. I’m feeling the need to reshape the abdomen, kidney, butt, and chest, to fit tighter since they are a bit wide currently.
And I did notice my shoulders are on the wrong way, my wife put them on and I didn’t notice.

It's normal that the ab/kidney/butt/chest might feel a bit wide if you are not a big guy. I am slim too, and I have some space inside those parts as well. Also, make sure you try to fit your shins while wearing your boots.

Keep up the good job! :duim:

Little more progress. Got the chest pretty much trimmed completely. And started trimming the shoulders.
Can’t decide if I should remove all of the return edge from the shoulder or not.

Also painted my ab buttons. Two coats seem to be enough but I may try to sand lightly with 1000 grit then and add another layer of paint to see if they smooth out a bit.
Hard to tell from the picture but the paint is quite uneven.

Try it and see if it's comfortable for you with a return edge. If you don't like it, you can probaly remove it, as the CRL does not say you need one at this place. So it's a personnal preference here. The armors used in the movie had a little return edge at this place.

Your ab buttons look good. The painting does not seem that bad! Plus, it was far from perfect and even on the screen used armors, too!

Keep up the good work! :)

I just received my split rivets from justjoseph63 and am ready to install them.
They will be 100% just for looks as I’m using the double snap method completely for interior strapping.
I measured 10mm in from the top and the bottom, and 10mm in from the side. Just wanted a second opinion that these spots look correct?

Started on strapping. Using double snap system. E6000 to glue the female snaps to the armor, clamp it in place (turns out they slide pretty bad if you don’t)

Just got my single cap rivets from justjoseph63. So I’ve started on the thigh ammo pack. First I gave the ammo pack a nice run over with some boiling water and shaped it pretty close to its final form.
The right side seems about right as is and only needs to have the curve cut out.
8d91dd413847b9e6821b4c40df979a6d.jpg
The left seems to need just an inch or so cut then the curve cut as well.

For placement I put the joint from the thigh between two of the bumps in the ammo pack. Pretty happy with how it’s lining up. But I think I will put a small piece of ABS behind the small slit to help hide the gap.

So i decided I couldn’t stand my bucket anymore. Took it completely apart. (Rivets and all) to get it looking better.
I’m super happy with It now. I lowered the brow a tad, gave it a slight bow up in the middle, and got the ears fitting waaaay better.

So I’m onto the belt. Was going for 60mm on the sides but decided to bump it down to 50mm.
Is it recommended to give the belt a bit of a water bath to shape it?

Some do and some don`t...I never did on any of my belts (1.5mm) and they stay put just fine, try bending the belt and see how much of a flex it has would be my advice:)

Now that I’ve gotten it trimmed down it seems like it won’t have any issues bending.

Getting the shoulder straps glued on. I’ve seen it somewhere where a trooper recommended putting something to fill the empty gap in them to hold better. So I got some scraps and threw them under with E6000 on both sides.

Really I’m just hoping they don’t shift at all from where I placed them. Either way I have plenty of E6000 to clean off the chest after smearing the straps all over.

Other progress. Got the arms pretty well strapped together. I will have to tighten the shoulders some more I’m sure. But otherwise should be good.
