New E-11 (F11-D) Blaster - Episode VII The Force Awakens / Random Thoughts About Production

Recommended Posts

Hi Brett, can you post a link for us?

Finding the droids we are looking for, seems easier than finding something on the RPF ;)

Keep in mind this all pure conjecture so far ;):

Wow looking at the RPF image the mound needs some serious redesigning. By the looks of it the layers are separating, either because the weight of the gun or a poor tongue and groove design. My guess is being the holster is plastic and the gun mounting pins are metal (speculation here), one hard bump to the gun and you may rip the upper portion of the mount layer or rip the mount off your thigh completely. Though this may a nice design in theory it won't last very long in the real world.

As mentioned in a previous post I still think this area should use a earth magnet attachment design.

There's an interesting design in the RPF thread above where it is speculated that the gap is there by design.  That the pressure outwards is placed on the blaster bolt attachments by the thigh attachment.  It would require you to press IN, then UP in order to release the weapon.

I don't think it's the cleanest look, and hope that it is just a separation.  But it's a theory being tossed around that it may be intentional.

I agree with you, that's why i prefer avoiding to base my thoughts on the ANOVOS armors as we don't really know how accurate they are.

Also, this design would not only work, it also seems to me closer to what we can see on the original armors from TFA that were displayed at Celebration 7 (orange background). This "bow" like section is the one thing that is missing on your design, and the knobs can't be on the blaster (even though the only ones we have seen so far are ANOVOS', so we don't know how reliable they are).

Here are two more pictures of what is see. It is mostly your own design (but the dimensions are off), but once assembled the aspect is similar to what we can see on the original armors:

(The thickest section probably has some details carved on it too).

However, it seems to be at least three screws/knobs? on the original rig.

But honestly, i doubt we have enough reference material so far to really nail the design of this latching system...

Well if this is intentional they better be using something other than ABS, Everyone here know ABS will not withstand those kid of pressures for very long. Now if the upper layer were made of Teflon or something similar I can see being feasible, but then good luck painting Teflon.  :D

Can you cross post for those folks not on RPF?

It's hard to cross post from the RPF as the pictures hosted on it can't be copy/pasted on another board. But the topic is public and everyone can access it.

In fact, it's just the adapter for the e-11 which goes onto the thigh rig that would need this method to be removed. The blaster might be easier to attach.

I have the 3D parts files, what I lack are accurate measurements. I've gone through and completely prepared the parts for printing, all I need is to scale the files. Any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts. And I purchased the files from turbosquid, I cant share directly.

I was about to buy the [editorial rights to the] files too, but if you already have them...

Let me pm you, secoyrd, about a special project I'm working on.

As for scale, we could probably safely assume that the end cap, nozzle, front sight guard, mag well, and other recognizable Sterling pieces would have their original dimensions/scale, right? Probably still around 18" inches long total. I don't think they shortened the rear pipe length, but that the scope's new profile makes the back look relatively stubby.

I'd love to see that TFA file transposed over/inside/with a good ANH file.😉

Anyone interested in printing their own can go ahead and contact me.

I'm making the files available for the 501st at a really good price. All parts have been test printed and look amazing.

Plan to also offer updated files as more data becomes available as well as add-ons such as the stock. Folks who purchase the files will receive any updates for free as I finish modeling them.

Did turbosquid create those files, or are those (allegedly) from LFL?
