  1. There are no minimum distances for the Aker amps and the RomFX. I have them right next to each other in my TX. The only distance constraint is the microphone and the aker speaker. That distance is also variable with the direction of the mic tip in relation to the speaker distance.
  2. Jon, I can hook you up with either memorex wireless headset mic or an aker wired headset mic. Email me at [email protected]. -Jim
  3. Simply answer is leave it charged. The Lithium batteries can take it. When new, they come pre-charged. If you need some instructions email me at [email protected]
  4. First, let me say that i am biased toward aker amps. I own and use both a romFX and a hyperdyne. The RomFX does amplify and can output to an un-powered speaker. I instead output to an aker amp. I run the RomFX at 30% volume and the Aker amp at 60% volume. The aker gives me better volume control and a LOT more volume. I know of many people who upgrade to a Aker amp with their RomFX. With the hyperdyne you have to have a powered amp/speaker.
  5. As long as you are an active 501st member and have a four digit ID (mine is TK6294 (then you should be able to register at the main 501st forum.
  6. For my three costumes I use the following on each: TK: hyperdyne card with aker voice amp TX: RomFX card with aker voice amp Gunner: aker voice amp with a PTT cable. All three systems work really well. You can't go wrong with any of them. Just depends on how much you want to spend...
  7. Markansas, Make sure to buy directly from me here. That is my amazon store that has them listed on amazon. "TK electronics" You will get a much better deal through here then through my amazon store. If you want to hide in your armor then the MR1506 black 10watt is best. On your belt then the White MR1508. In a pouch then get the MR1505 12watt amp. Email me for more info at [email protected]
  8. I'm with Daetrin, Wisconsin Rules! Yeah it's cold but so is Space right? I miss squeaky cheese curds, good frozen Custard, and Prime Quarter. Deatrin, When did you Graduate? I graduated UW-Madison 94 from the Chem Engineering school.
  9. I have an old silver colored ipod shuffle (looks just like the new ones for ~$50) that i use. I have a black cover for it. I have a elastic loop glued to the underside of my left hand plate. I then run a wire from my aker amp to the ipod shuffle. That allows me to control the playback and the volume. For example, the first track is the imperial march which i blast at full volume using a Aker MR1505 12watt amp. It is loud enough to carry the squad march at a parade or a big entrance. the next tracks are the TK chatter that Skutch made. I then have a few loops i made. I have to turn the volume down on the chatter. The TK chatter loops really add to the effect.
  10. here is the 501st forum link: http://www.501stforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28538 You will need to be a 501st forum member to access it. Skutch (the maker) wants it only for 501st use only so you will have to wait until you are approved before you will be able to access it.
  11. Absolutely yes.... I run that exact set-up on one of my costumes.
  12. Use the search term "chatter" on the 501st forum and you will find it. It works great with the aker voice amps. Your mic goes in one port and the mp3 line goes in the second port. Both work at the same time!
  13. Where did you get the patent leather. it looks great and i like that option better than bending the ABS to cover. I went with the black canvas when i did my belt because it matched the requirements for a TK.
  14. That's how i have mine wired and I love it. Plus i use an enclosed battery box with a on/off switch.
  15. I think we can all agree it is wrong one someone copies another persons product with the intent to make a profit. Especially if that product is still available from the orginal developer. The original product has the developing person's time, money, and emotion invested in it. It is one thing for that to take place in the business world. That is what patent lawyers are for. I think it is much worse when someone does that to a fellow legion brother or sister. Personally, I would like to see anyone who does that identified so that I can avoid them both in buying from them AND from selling to them.
  16. Be sure to check out this sales thread. These amps can be used alone or with the RomFX....------------
  17. TCI is a voice/static burst card. It is ok but the hyperdyne and RomFX are much better. But the TCI should not be purchased. Here is why (see 5th posting down by Mike Lee)---------- I have spoken to Mike many times and he is a good trooper and I would recommend supporting him in his request.
  18. For the RomFX card the aker voice amps do replace the unpowered speaker that comes with the romfx. The romfx card does amply the signal so you have double amplification when adding the aker voice amp. On my romfx, I preset the romfx card to about 20% volume. I then use the aker voice amp to control volume which is much easier to access with the volume wheel. I only need to set my aker voice amp to about 50% volume. Set higher and it is so loud it is obnoxious. As far as I know the RomFX has a voltage operating range. So as long as you are within that range you are good. I power mine with three lithium ion rechargeables (3.7volts each). I have them in a battery box with a on/off switch for safety. The switch also makes it easier to turn it on or off. I also put my romfx in a enclosure box. That thing is too expensive to risk damaging. The aker wired mic work really with any system including the romfx. The aker mic is highly directional. It is very important that the white line on the mic tip faces your mouth. That will maximize volume and voice pick up and minimize the feedback. I use my aker mic with the memorex wireless headset kit because it works better then the memorex mic that comes with the kit. Â
  19. I can hook you up with the aker voice amps. The link is the the second posting. Thank you Vorhess for the referral. I will also help with the Hyperdyne. I have that model and i have made many adjustments. If and when you get your aker amp, we can phone conference and I will walk you through the set-up and the adjustments on the Hyperdyne card itself and the overall system. My Hyperdyne/aker system works really well. I also have RomFX card that I use with one of my Aker amps. The RomFX is easier to set-up and operate but does not have a PTT option. However, you can get a PTT cable from me that will work with the RomFX and with the romFX static burst. I have many customers that have added an aker amp to their RomFX. If you want to dump the Hyperdyne and get a RomFX let me know. I have squad mate that wants a hyperdyne for the Bobba Fett voice. He would likely buy yours anmd then you could put that money toward a RomFX. I was thinking about selling him my Hyperdyne and buying another RomFX. Drop me a line and we work something out to get you up to fully operational status! Jim, TK6294, [email protected]
  20. I have this old trik toy set (it came with some other stuff i bought). It is a powered computer mic (mic with a AA battery in it)and a radio shack mini sound amp taken out of it casing and packed into the trik toy case. The radio shack mini sound amp is not meant to be a voice amp and it has no feedback logic built into it. That is why radio shack does not supply a mic with it. RS sells them for $15. The hovi speakers are okay but Launchpad sells them on this forum and they are much better and run around $10 i think. Also, the trik system does not have a static burst/click unless you count blowing into your mic. You can put together the same system for much cheaper if you want to do the work. I don't want to get into a debate between hovi speakers and chest/back speakers. The hovi speakers allow you to have sound coming from the aerator tips. The chest/back speaker systems allow you to be heard and understood more easily. There are other pros and cons to both types of systems but I am little biased so i will stop there. If you are interested in the chest/back speaker systems go to this link. I will hook you up. ----------
  21. In an effort to keep from offending anyone with my opinion, i retract my comments. Sorry if offended anyone....
  22. I am all for the plastic support strip. I cracked my belt at a troop this past weekend. All my belts will have additional support from here on out.
  23. I can help you Bro! You can buy one of my Aker 10watt voice amps and have the best on the market. ---------- It comes with a wired headset mic. But if you don't want to upgrade your voice amp i can sell you a wired headset mic separately ($10 plus shipping depending on location and how fast you want it). Where do you live? Send me an email and i will help you out. [email protected].
  24. Here is another 2 sources for Squirrel fans. Both models work great. ------------
  25. I like it! What a great idea!
