  1. Hey guys, I've got a suit of the SDS armour (which I'm very pleased with, as expensive as it might be!) and quite a few people expressed an interest in seeing more detail about the current builds AA is doing. I can post some pics of my setup if anyone wants to see anything in particular, but I thought AA's FB page might be of interest:----------- He's got lots of photos of his workshop setup and builds-in-progress - quite interesting! Just thought I'd share
  2. I know not everyone has a high opinion of him, but Andrew Ainsworth has included some videos on his new site (Link to video: )It starts off with him showing the vacuforming process, but if you jump to about 10mins, he shows a bit of assembling the armour too.
  3. Thanks for the support guys Chris - I forgot you couldn't get SDS in the US.. if you (or anyone else) are interested in any closeups of any parts of it just ask and I'll be happy to oblige! Day 1's work: I've got pretty much all the popper tabs glued on and made a good start I think! I've applied the cover strips to the thighs: I've finished the shins: and glued the arm halves together: I've also done various other small bits and bobs such as gluing the panels on the ab plate. Now to get on with day 2!
  4. Hello everyone, I've fairly recently finished modifying and tweaking my SDS Battlespec helmet (had a "build" thread on the UK Garrison boards and had lots of great help there) and now my armour has arrived! (This is cross-posted with the UKG boards - so apologies to UKG members who have to put up with me twice!) I'm very nervous about putting this together, but I've spent the last year reading build threads and advice, so hopefully I should be OK! Plus I know you guys will help me with anything I'm not sure about I am FAR from an expert (this is the first set I've actually seen in person), but it looks pretty good to my untrained eye I'd like to hear your thoughts on it though! Oh look - a brown box! Wonder what could be in it? Huh? Bits of plastic? Wtf? Woo! The full set laid out: Close up of the front and helmet: Close up of the back and belt: So now comes putting it all together! It came with some nice printed instructions, which should make it a bit easier. Very nervous though! Once I've finished assembling it (lol), I just have a couple of bits left: Boots - Arrived a few days ago from TK boots. Neck Seal - My other half is going to make me one, we've got the material already though. Belt - Need to get some decent canvas. Undersuit - Already got. E-11 - Got. It's a ROTJ one, but will hopefully be clearable at least until I can afford a proper ANH one. I've got three days off now to work on this - wish me luck!
  5. First thing I thought of when I read "Imperial Commando" was the unit from the Star Wars Supremacy game ("Rebellion in the US I think): http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Storm_commandos Different to what you guys are talking about, but still pretty cool
  6. Hi Rob, I'm in the same boat as you - got an SDS lid (which I've just finished modding) and was thinking of getting an FX/AM kit to go with it. I was advised by one of the armourers on the UKG boards that the AM tends to have a slightly yellowy tinge, whereas, as mentioned, SDS is glossy white. He pointed out, as Mark said above, that the film lids weren't perfect matches for the armour anyway, but his opinion (which I agreed with, when I thought about it) is that, as a perfectionist, them not matching would drive him crazy
  7. Doesn't bother me, but if it helps with troubleshooting, it's the same for me on IE8
  8. Thank you for the suggestions all. I think I'll take your advice and go the 3x3.7v Li Ion route. Now just to find somewhere that sells them in the UK! Edit: Found somewhere eventually. Ordered 6 of the batteries (for spares!), one 3xAA box with switch and a PP3 connector to attach. Thanks again guys
  9. Hello all, I've searched around but cannot find this specific thing mentioned anywhere, although I know many many people have done it. I want to power my Rom/FX with 8xAA batteries rather than 1x9volt. I've bought two 4xAA holders---------- and each has the standard 9volt (PP3) connector on the top. The question is, how can I connect these to my Rom/FX? Can I get a cable to do it for me, or will I have to manually wire the terminals to one another in series? I've attached a quick MS Paint of how I think I should attach it, but I'm not positive and don't want to risk damaging anything! Thank you all for any advice you can give
