Yes. I'd really like to see a couple of the pictures they've taken there. Specially from the innards of the suits. I think I'll write to them to see if they are willing to share something with us...

When did you see Star Wars in the theater for the first time and where? January or February of '78 (Southern summer). I was 6 and barely remember the experience, except for those awesome stormtroopers... What is your favorite Star Wars movie? Star Wars (aka ANH) as seen on 1978 (without CGI characters and modern "extras".) What is your least favorite Star Wars movie? The Phantom Menace. (George, what were you thinking?! ) What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? My son, music, fantasy, literature, painting... I'm a creative kind of guy. What turns you off? Mediocrity, carelessness, uncivilized rude people, excuses. What is your favorite curse word? Gilipollas! (that would be like "a**hole" in English) What Star Wars Character do you love? Stormtroopers, of course. And Han Solo. What Star Wars Character do you hate? Jar Jar (and Gungans in general,) Ewoks and Sy Snootles. How did you first find out about your home garrison? I've known about the 501st for years. Through the 501st site. What Costume other than your own would you like to attempt? Boba Fett, C3PO or RA-7 (the protocol droid from the Death Star.) What Costume would you not like to do? Most rebel costumes. Anakin robes. What would you like to hear George Lucas say when you arrive at the LucasFilm Gates? "You really came from that far? Assistant! Give an 'All access' pass to this guy please, he deserves it!"

So, you reeeeely want to be screen accurate?
Dmian replied to Billhag's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I think it's just a piece of tape over a curved crack. Or simply a crack that's been fixed. -
Latex-FREE, flexible hand guards

Great job Karin! I guess many allergic to latex troopers will be glad to see this. -

You've made it! You're going for EIB, right? It looks great! -
Thanks Joey! Yes, I need more experience. And this was only a test. I didn't mind if I made mistakes, I just wanted to see if it looked like I wanted (and it did.) Even the fabric is wrinkled, as I'm using the end of the fabric to make tests. So by no means it looks like the final one. I hope to get better. I guess what you mean is this: ------------ I don't know if my machine can use one of those. It's a very simple and basic machine. But I'll try to ask at the store to see if they know if something like that can be used on it. Thanks Arron! At the store they didn't know the diameter of the cord. <_< I had to choose by eye. I measured it later. Maybe I can use a slightly bigger cord. I just want around 11 of them by neck piece. I still need to figure out how to finish the seal to look more similar to that seen on screen. But I'm getting closer.

An update! I made two tests. I first used polyester batting as stuffing, sewing over it. The results were not very good. Even though the batting was thick, once bent the look was a bit plain. The lines were not round and stuffed like in the pictures. So my mother suggested that I used some kind of cord to fill the lines. I looked for rubber cords, but I didn't found big enough cords to fill it. And then the girl at the haberdashery/notions store told me that they had a cotton cord (around 5 mm) that may suit me. So I bought 2 meters to do a test. I first sewed the fabric and then inserted the cord, and this is the result: ------- That's about 2 inches high. It's not perfect, as it's just a test, but I really like how's turning out. What do you think?

Ouch! that must hurt! Get well soon.

That's a great tip Steven!

I think I'll go the same way with the eye bump. Looking great Tim! You're very close to finishing it.

Welcome Fredrik! It's nice to hear you finally decided to give it a go. Kepp on Troopin'

Well, it really doesn't matter if what you obtain is a single line. What you need is a single trace on the plastic that you can follow repeatedly with the cutter to make it depper with each pass. If you make several, close lines the final cut might not be so clean and you'd probably have to sand it a bit more to get rid of all the extra marks you've done with the cutter. If you're not sure just go lightly and slow. The cutter will help a little if you put it closer to the plastic (and not right from the top.) You can use the same technique for all the armor. There are other people who prefer tu use a Dremel to do a rough cut and then sand down till it looks like they want. I like this way, because you just need a light sanding to smooth the borders and the piece is ready. Thanks! I'll be very happy if this thread is useful for other people. I've learned a lot from other troopers like Peter (stukatrooper), Tim (troopertim), Curtis (TK-4261), Graham (G4Tyrant), Mark (Firebladejedi) and many others. I want to put do my bit.

Yay! Less work for those who have different suits. V'pier is da man! Edit: is it implemented? Did you used the passport module for phpBB? I'm just curious. I like the passport feature!

Thanks Paul! I thought about it, because I think Riveting's neck seals are truly the best looking necks seals ever made. But I find his method too complicated, at least for me. I wanted to do something easy and practical, but good looking at the same time. I hope I can find a way to do it.

This is a small test I did to test my sewing skills (my mother told me how to use the machine) and the concept I have, which is really simple. As I didn't have a suitable material for the stuffing (I'll have to get some thick polyester batting or similar) I used some spongy thing I got from the kitchen. It's just for you to see the fabric, mostly. I hope you like it. ----------

Thanks Mark and Paul for the info. I never stop learning here.

If I manage to make something nicely finished, simple to make and that looks close to the original I will surely put a project order thread. I will also put plans and make a how to thread, that's for sure. There are two things that worry me: that I learn to properly use the sewing machine and that I can make something nice for a reasonable (preferably low) price. I talked with my mother (who will help me start with the project) and I have an idea of how this could be made very simply. I need to gather a couple of materials (velcro and the filling) and start with the tests. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Today I went to a big fabric shop in Madrid (called Ribes & Casals) to get some fabric for a tablecloth, and my Spider-sense (or should it be Trooper-sense? ) told me to go take a look at the costume fabrics section. And looking here and there I found this: -------- (thanks Billy for the picture.) So I bought all the fabric they had left (about 6 1/2 feet, but they told me they usually have it) and I will start to play with it a little to see if I can make a neck seal that looks as good as the ones on the movies. Luckily I just bought a sewing machine and my mother promised me to teach me how to use it. So I'll keep you updated. Cheers.

Richard, that looks great! -
Thanks Nathan and Pablo! I must confess that I'm a bit obsessed with accuracy at the moment. I still have doubts about the crotch. I don't know if I should go for accuracy and risk a crack or just do what Pablo did. I have to think about it. I just bought some 8 cm (that's 3 1/8 inches) white elastic for the sides. I saw Graham (G4Tyrant) use that and it might be the solution to my problem for the Ab/Kidney joint. I also bought the small 5 mm white elastic for the shoulder straps I have 2 cm and 3 cm nylon straps (like those from the backpacks, I think it's called "webbing" right?) in both black and white. And a couple of backpack clasps for the strapping "system." And lots of snaps in both white and black. Oh! and rivets too (I can't seem to find white rivets, so I'll have to paint mine.) I ordered my neckseal and holster from a fellow Spanish Garrison member, but I don't know how accurate those are, but will serve me well till I can get accurate parts. I'm hoping to get a holster from SuperTrooper if the one I've ordered is not as accurate as I'd like it to be. And as Riveting is not making accurate neckseals anymore I think I'll do something about it... And about the drop boxes, I was thinking of using white EVA (foam rubber or Foamy) to fill them. I think it may look nice and be light enough. Any more suggestions? Is there anything I should consider? Thanks!
