  1. Congrats David! Check that everything's there. AP forgot the velcro on mine, and the trimming on another Spanish guy. If you don't know what should be there just ask. Enjoy!
  2. Car window tint/solar film over regular green acetate (the one that comes with the AP, for example.) That's what was recommended to me by my garrison. I should go to a car window tint place and ask for leftovers.
  3. Color perception, and the cognitive process involved in it, has always been part of my interest. Emotional response to color, color perception by people with disabilities and accessibility (color contrast, legibility) are part of what I've always tried to learn about. You probably like Ghibli movies then, because you may know how obsessive Mr. Miyazaki can be with color.
  4. Well Steve, I have an SDS helmet (the one seen on my avatar.) You can see the thread I put when I received it here. Things I can say about it: On the upside, the general quality is good. The ABS is really nice and of a milky, solid white. More white than the AP. It's nicely assembled. It feels solid. The teeth comes hand painted now. The trimming is nice too. It's assembled in the traditional way, with a green film for the eyes and a clover foam as padding. Accurate aerators and regular decals. On the downside, it's visibly warped. Very odd indeed. Not just asymmetric, warped. It's difficult to explain, but when you see it side by side with other helmets, you instantly know what I'm talking about. The ears are separated pieces, and very prominent (might need work to leave it accurate.) And they fell off easily. The vocoder has a separate, ugly plastic piece. Nasty. On of the worst parts of the helmet. So, I don't know. If you just want to have as much helmets as possible, then go ahead. But it's expensive, specially for Americans. And not a "great" helmet. Just a "good" one. IMHO, of course.
  5. Yep. Color temperature and aging affect what an armor looks like. We tend to speak about color in absolute terms, but in truth color perception is subjective and affected by a number of factors like light. And it more interesting when you realize that there are people that can see more "colors" than others. It's very difficult to establish the exact color of ANH armor. Specially because the DVD image suffered from some color treatment that changed a lot of the color balance of the film, so you can't take it as a reliable reference. So, to answer the question, the color should be one that pleases you eye. It will only be important if you're trooping with people with different armor colors, but I guess most people won't notice after all.
  6. Shouldn't this thread be in Blasters and BFGs? Bah! nevermind. Two Spanish Garrison members have SDS blasters, and they are not happy with it, to be honest.
  7. Clover shaped foam
  8. Mark made a great how-to: -------- Maybe you'd like to see it (or complement it for American troopers )
  9. Don't worry Lasse, I know it an odd, warped helmet. I'm working on my AP right now, so I hope it ends up better than the SDS, but it also has it glitches. Edit: don't trust the pictures on the Shepperton site, the ears are not the same. It looks like a mix between the battle spec and the regular stunt. The ears are definitively a different piece on mine. I could work on them a little, now that I have more experience with my armor to make them look a little better (smaller). But I don't know. The vocoder is awful, I can tell you. I don't know what to do with it. Frankly, I haven't decided if I should work on it a little to improve it or leave it as it is to sell it later and buy a nice, TM helmet.
  10. And what you recommend for the regular ANH AP hand guards and Nomex golves? Velcro? Snaps? Other way? I'll have two pair of gloves, one pair of rubber gloves with latex handguards and one pair of Nomex golves with the AP ABS handguards. The rubber gloves are no problem, but I wasn't sure about the Nomex. I have black sewing velcro and white adhesive velcro, but wa not sure if the handguards will stay in place. I've searched the forum, but it looks that I don't know how to properly search for this topic, as I'm not getting many threads. Thanks.
  11. Mmmmm... maybe an ATA is what you're looking for? After all, the first 'A' is for 'Affordable'. -------- Cheers.
  12. Do not buy from web sites or eBay. Nothing against Jedi Robe, but the only licensed places to sell armor or helmets are efx for helmets and Museum Replicas for the rest (they still don't have a stormtrooper armor.) Good quality armor is made by fans, and they don'to sell openly on eBay or websites. Avoid this kind of sites!
  13. The supreme looks like a dead fish... <_<
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if the thighs were attached to a belt.
  15. Pablo, Mark, Joey: Thanks a lot! Pablo, It's not fair! You put your perfect TM as comparison... And yes, it feels so great! I can't believe it's me. Yes, I see I need to lower the biceps. Yes, I still need to put the snaps for the belt. Mmmm... I think I'll need more snaps. I also want to change some of the nylon weaving for elastic, as Paul said in another thread. But I'm getting closer! I'll tell my brother to take pictures of some of the detail I'd like you to see, like the side rivets or the small elastics to hold the shoulder straps. I also want your opinion on the straps, as they touch the back box part and I may need to cut them a little. I'll update this tomorrow. Thanks again.
  16. This is the first test with armor I did today at the workshop: Things not in the picture: - Boots (I'll wear them only for the "official" pictures, as they are dyed jodhpurs.) - Ab buttons (not finished yet.) - Handguards (need to decide how to attach to Nomex gloves.) - Neckseal (I need to finish my "project" ) - Holster (waiting for it, from Greg) - Thermal det/O2 cannister (need the metal clips.) - More snaps on the butt part to get it closer to the kidney part and not flap. The helmet is not the AP but the SDS. I still need the screen accurate aerators (from Tony) to finish the AP. Things that worry me: - The biceps height (are they right?) - Left shoulder (needs to be closer) - Forearms (are they too high?) - Left thigh (is it too high?) If you see anything else let me know. Keep in mind I'd like to apply for EIB. Thanks.
  17. EU characters are a mess... You can do pretty much whatever you want as long as it looks similar to any of their renditions in different formats. Get a large enough pipe. Add greeblies to make it look like a futuristic weapon. Paint it black. Enjoy.
  18. If you want to keep arguing the same old things again and again, be yourselves. But the topic at hand "PT Flexible Armor , 501st Approved???" I think has been already answered... <_< Just saying...

    9-11

Coming from someone who lives in a country that suffered from an al-Qaeda's attack (11-M) and that suffers from regular terrorist attacks (ETA) I can assure you that no matter what you do or say, terrorist attacks are the most treacherous, coward and unfair form of attack you can suffer. Unlike war, where you can defend yourself and where most parts fighting are soldiers, a terrorist attack on civil population is an unjustified and coward form of killing innocent people. There's no "why" when we talk about terrosism. You just fight terrorism and that's it. Until you get rid of it. You can ask why when you talk about wars or any kind of confrontation. But not when you talk about cowards killing innocent people without a chance for them of defending themselves. Terrorism is unjustifiable. Period. At least, that's what I think about it.
  20. Happy ending, thanks to our friend Tony!
  21. Ha! I told you! Scott is the man!
  22. John, 501st is a club with its rules. FISD has its own rules too. You're not forced to join neither of the two to wear Stormtrooper armor. If what you want is to use your Stormtrooper armor to have fun in Halloween maybe you should consider if being part of these clubs is for you. For me being part of the 501st and the FISD is helping others, learning about the armor and spending good moments with a lot of virtual and non-virtual friends. I don't think that forum moderation is something that needs to be discussed in public. Not at least if most of us don't see a need to do that. Staff has its reason to ban someone and they only need to explain the reasons to the people banned. If you have questions to make, PM a member of the staff and ask your questions. But I really don't see a reason for us to discuss the rules, as most people seem to be OK with the rules. I personally don't like hobby politics. I just obey the rules. And do my part by trying to help others, that is the reason I'm here really (and to know as much as I can about Stormtrooper armor.) But that's just me. You can do whatever you like. I know you don't mean to be rude or something like that. But I think it's better to leave some things private. I hope you understand what I mean and understand that I don't mean nothing personal with this. Cheers.
  23. Probably. He can still apply for another garrison. The Belgian Garrison might be a wise choice.
  24. Not at all! I'm pretty sure Scott can help you.
  25. Most decals have some kind of adhesive. What you mean are vinyls that keep in place by means of static. But even if they make those static stripes, it wouldn't be useful, as it's not one only piece, but a lot of small pieces that make the decal, and removing the stripes would be a pain. You can have more than one helmet with different color stripes if you will.
