Start with the thigh pieces. Begin with just placing them on to see how they will fit and how much material to trim off.
The strips of HIPS that I provided you will cover the front seam - some troopers close both sides and merely slip them on.
On the rear of the pieces I use industrial strength velcro for ease of taking them on/off.

It is an acceptable practice to have your ab plate partially covered.
However, if you must have the ab plate showing, then trim the top of the chest piece around the neck and cut the shoulder tabs shorter if don't wish to trim the bottom of the chest piece.
