Team Armor Build [NE]: ESB in Northern California
DarkTrooper replied to Haribon72's topic in ESB Build Threads
Armor looks good. I noticed that the left shin sniper plate sometimes likes to tuck under the front of your left thigh armor. You could add some padding to the bottom rear portion of the left thigh. That'll push the top of your actual thigh up against the front inside of your thigh armor, eliminating the space for that knee plate to tuck in there. -

Umm yeah, pics are going to help a lot so we can give you the best advice. What kind of glue did you use to attach the pieces together? -
Help with storm trooper costume
DarkTrooper replied to blackdeath's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
I agree. The best source of information is to get in contact directly with a 501st member from a local/nearest garrison and introduce yourself. I personally spoke to a potential new garrison member/individual interested in Stormtrooper armor a couple days ago. We exchanged a couple emails at first then spoke on the phone for a while a few days later. We plan on meeting each other sometime in the next few weeks and he'll be able to examine my armors and get a better first hand understanding of the whole process. -

Opinions on oem neck seal from amazon
DarkTrooper replied to NabooKnight's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Very interesting . . . on amazon huh? I'd have to see an actual photo of the neck seal to recommend it. Definitely looks rubber-like from the photo though. -
*NO BLASTER USE / DISPLAY | Lucasfilm, Ltd. - Disney Policy*
DarkTrooper replied to TK bondservnt's topic in Off Topic
We'd have to change/redesign our garrison emblem if the 501st were to ban blaster props. Our emblem HAS a blaster in it. We're not the only ones. But I agree . . . . -
I can't find where I read it but if someone else heard it, I read that a movie (First Order) suit cost $15,000 to produce.

Vacuum forming plastic options
DarkTrooper replied to DylanHarris99's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
Unless you're going to go into the "business" of creating your own armor molds and producing kits I don't think the work involved for one or two full sets of armor is worth it. Unless you already have a vacuum former and have use for it for other things. -
It is just plastic. I don't see it as being much more complicated to vacuum form the pieces. There are a bunch of resin greeblie pieces but those are easy to replicate. They should offer an option to purchase without the gaskets. Offering a full kit with the option of helmet (fiberglass or injection molded). But all the bondo & seamless work is done by the builder. Why would that be a mark up on the producers side?

Where Can I Find Thew New Order Stormtrooper Gloves?
DarkTrooper replied to Cladius's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
The white eagle gloves are available everywhere. I even found them at the gas station down my street. -
hhmmm??? Well if you are looking for three bump ears to do a HERO helmet (as specified in the CRL http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_anh_hero ) contact john danter here on the forums. He was offering the HERO ears. I got mine from him.

Not all "female" voices come from females. Anyone ever hear this guy talk? (Ross Matthews) LOL
-
Hero ears have three bumps, stunts have more than three. I have an ATA helmet also and two sets of stunt ears were included. Trimming ears can be difficult. Remember that once you cut a piece off its very difficult to correct an error. That may be the reason for receiving two sets.

I found this offering on Etsy. What do you guys think? Its available unfinished as well. I've never heard of these guys, Heston3DSolutions. -----------

I'd suggest wearing a balaclava if you have long hair. Other than keeping your hair out of the way of fan blades it can also protect you from an exploding battery. Our Darth Vader had a close call this past weekend at a Force Awakens appearance when his battery pack for his fans exploded. Luckily he wasn't burned but he was wearing a balaclava. -----------

TFA vs. Classic TK armor
DarkTrooper replied to Dreamdasher's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Your building skills can also determine what is right for you. Putting together a First Order Stormtrooper is a whole lot more work compared to an Original trilogy Stormtrooper. The FO TK will need the use of bondo or other filling materials plus painting the entire suit. Building one is very similar to a clone trooper build. I know there were quite a few people who were quick to order and acquire a FO TK only to be way in over their heads with the build. Plus it didn't help that the early builds didn't have much documentation or instructions. -
E11 and movie theatres
DarkTrooper replied to ProjectFirestart's topic in General Weapons Discussion
The 501st members that did participate last night were asked to leave their blasters. I'm not 100% sure but I think these were not 501st members. Probably Disney casted actors.
